Nautical Encouragement for Two Paper Divas + Big Sale!

The August release is still in full swing at Two Paper Divas Stamps and to top it off, they're having a big sale, to boot!  Check out the What's New section to see all 45 stamp sets for Fall, Halloween and Back to School, that are on sale and already marked at the sale price of 30% off the retail price.  Hurry though, the sale only runs until the September release which begins Sept. 6th and 7th.

Today, I'm sharing another card that I've made with the Anchors the Soul stamp set.  This is such an encouraging sentiment for anyone who needs a little lift in their spirits.

To make this card, I stamped my anchor in Memento London Fog ink and dried it quickly with my heat embossing tool, then stamped my sentiment in Ranger Black archival ink and quickly sprinkled with clear embossing powder, tapped off the excess and heated with my embossing tool.  If you have problems with your stamped sentiments not standing out on your projects, give clear embossing powder a try.  It really makes it stand out and gives added dimension,

I like the look of my sentiment on top of the anchor too.  Using a neutral shade for the anchor is key and really, you don't need to do anything else to this pairing.

I wanted to accent my anchor theme so I broke out my pliers and cut a piece of chain to drape across my card, hot glued just under the backside of my frame, then hot glued my buttons from Laura Kelly Designs and Buttons Galore, to pull it all together.   My papers are from the DCWV Hey Sailor collection and the fishnet stenciling is from The Crafters Workshop, called "Nautical Chain".

Watercolor and Stenciled Encouragement Card

I have a friend currently going through chemotherapy and battling a disease that I'm all too familiar with, one that my mother and sister both fought.  I wanted to send her an encouraging card so when Stamplorations came out with their new stamp set, "Butterflies and Buttercups", I knew it would be perfect for my friend.

I also wanted to enter it into a few challenges, so for the technical aspect, this card was stenciled with the Stamplorations "Just Squares" stencil.  To achieve this affect, I taped my stencil down across my card, then took my distress markers and swiped them on an acrylic block.  I used my waterbrush to transfer the colors onto my stencil to achieve a watercolored apperarance.  I varied the colors and shading with less or more water, and also used some DecoArt Americana Multi-surface white paint for splatters and splotches.

My flowers and sentiment were heat embossed and I colored my flowers with the same watercolor technique.  My background papers are from Crate Paper and Maggie Holmes and I really didn't want to cover up any of the wording with additional layers, as it was so appropriate for this card.  Sequins and ribbon/twine embellishments round out this beauty, along with gold Stickles glitter glue in the center of my flowers.

I'm also entering my card into a few challenges:

Pocket Style Cards with Two Paper Divas and Pumpkin Spice Lattes! *recipe

Did you know that September 22 is the first day of Autumn?  Fall is my absolute favorite time of year and with the heat that we've experienced this summer, it can't get here soon enough.  Cooler weather, changing leaves and pumpkins popping up on the neighbor's porch can only mean one thing.  Fall is here.  Of course, with the arrival of Fall, comes seasonal coffees - another added bonus to the season, if you're a coffee lover, which I undoubtedly am.

With that in mind, I've made a set of pocket style cards featuring the stamp set, Coffee on the Go, by Two Paper Divas Stamps.

These 3"x 4" cards are perfectly sized for Project Life style scrapbooking or using as a base for a larger card.  I've turned my coffee stamp into a Pumpkin Spice Latte, my favorite seasonal drink, pairing this with the Simple Stories Pumpkin Spice paper collection.

My cup is paper pieced and I've colored the coffee with a Zig Clean Color pen in Oatmeal and topped my whipped cream with Mod Podge glitter dimensional glue and copper colored extra fine glitter that I purchased from the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo.
So delicious!

Now, as an added bonus, I'm sharing the Pinterest link to my favorite Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe.  I've made this many times, even making batches of it at work, to share with my co-workers, and they all love it.  Enjoy!

Do More Than Planning With Your Planner Pages and Adornit

(FTC disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links so, if you purchase a product using the link I may receive a small commission. I only participate in affiliate programs that feature products that I use and love. Your purchase price is not affected in any way, by using my links)
I know there are a lot of planner girls out there, so, today I'm sharing one of the ways that I like to expand the use of my planner; devotionals or scripture journaling.  I have an Adornit coloring planner and I like to use those "extra" pages" for weekly devotions.  It's nice to flip through now and then and be reminded of things that I need to work on.  Loving those who are hard to love is one of those things that I need to work on.  Can I get an Amen?!

I love incorporating the Adornit Art Play Paintables into my devotions.  It's a total no-brainer, for me.  For this project, I colored up the floral bouquet from the Sweet Blossoms collection, designed by owner/artist at Adornit, Carolee McMullins.

You can find many of the Adornit products at Scrapbook.com but some of the newest products can only be found at Adornit, such as the Sweet Blossoms collection and the new patriotic and summer
Art Play Paintables:

I also used the Adornit blender paper in this fun gray striped design, not only as a backdrop on my page, but also as a little edging to the right of my scripture.   In addition, I've used some of the Adornit planner stamps, stickers and even trimmed some elements from the Adornit "Family Path" scrapbook paper collection, the "blessings" sentiment and the yellow chevron arrows.  Adornit even has a fun selection of washi tape or decorative tape.  You can find that, here.

Here's a close-up of my coloring which was done with my Faber Castell watercolor pencils.  Did you know Adornit has now come out with a line of their own watercolor pencils that will be available soon in stores?  I can't wait to get my hands on them!

This photo just doesn't capture all the sparkle and glitter from my Kaisercraft glitter pens.  All my writing was done with my black glitter pen and all those tiny dots you see, as well.  I use these fun glitter and gel pens on almost all my coloring projects for added sparkle.

Thinking Of You Card With DCWV

Hello crafters. Today, I'm sharing a lovely card that I'm sending a friend who suffered an unexpected loss in her life.  I recently received the Color & Create stack, Butterflies and Birds, from DCWV and thought it was timely to create something pretty and delicate for my friend.  Life is a precious gift and in the blink of an eye, it can be taken from us.  Much like the butterfly, who flutters for a little while and then is gone; beautiful to behold for a season.

I'd like to share a few techniques on how I created this card, which I'm also sharing for the DCWV August Stackaholic Challenge, in particular, the sketch challenge.

Below is trio of frames for this blossom, colored with my Tombow brown dual brush marker.

-I started with choosing one part of each flower petal, keeping it uniform as I go.

-Next, on the upper right frame, I colored with the same marker with only one swipe, for a lighter shade.  It's ok to leave a little white space.  It's all about saving time as you'll see in the next frame.

-For the lower right frame, I grabbed my Tim Holtz waterbrush and distributed all the color.  What you don't see here, is that I also grabbed my Kaisercraft brown glitter pen and colored all the dark brown swirls for added sparkle.

Here's a close-up of one of the butterflies that I colored and fussy cut.  I used only two colors an orange and brown Tombow marker, and blotted with a wet paper towel to lighten the color in places.  Then, I added some white dots for added embellishment, using a white Gelly roll pen.

BONUS TIP!  Slightly wet paper towels are great for dabbing on your entire colored project for bringing a little light and added focus to your project.  Works best with watercolor pencils or water based markers.

The sentiment was part of the Color and Create stack, so I chopped it up a bit and added DCWV Kraft polka dot paper as a border, from the DCWV Garden Charm paper collection.  Sequins and button pearls from 28 Lilac Lane and Buttons Galore round out this pretty card.

If you'd like to join the challenge, get the details here.  There's also a layout sketch on the DCWV blog post.   The stack I'm using today can be found at Jo-Ann Craft & Hobby stores or online, here.

Thanks for popping in and letting me share with you today.  God Bless!

Spell on Me With Two Paper Divas

Here's another card, featuring the brand new release from Two Paper Divas,
"Spell On Me".  This set is not only perfect for Halloween projects, but for Valentine's Day or other romantic events with the fun sentiments pictured at the end of this post.

For this A2 sized card, I watercolored my image with Tombow dual brush markers and my Tim Holtz waterbrush, coloring the background as well.

There are lots of bubbles "brewing", which I added with my Kaisercraft gel and glitter pens.

My sentiment was heat embossed using black ink and clear embossing powder, one of my favorite techniques.  It really makes the wording pop.  Notice the spacing between the words?  I LOVE that there's a little spacing which is great for chopping up a sentiment and spreading it out on a project for a change of pace.

Once I finished heat embossing my sentiment, I trimmed it and ran it through my Xyron sticker machine, then simply cut it into pieces.  Fun!  Plus, if you don't like where you placed your words, they're easily removable to switch around.

The papers that I'm using are from Doodlebug Design's October 31st collection and I've finished off my card with burlap string, DoubleClick Skittles bubble embellishments and tiny sequins.

Graphic 45 is one of my absolute favorite paper companies.  Having the pleasure of meeting the G45 family personally, and spending time interviewing them for a Craft and Hobby Association trade show a few years back, only deepened my love and respect for this amazing company.   The history of how Graphic 45 came to be is even more fascinating, considering owner Diane Schultz started her life over at the age of 45 to go back to school and learn the graphic design trade, hence the name, "Graphic 45".

Every paper collection is a hit.  Every one.  Many of the collections have color schemes that can be interchangeable with previous sets, adding extra mileage and versatility.

Now, just in time for your Autumn and Halloween crafting comes the
"Halloween in Wonderland collection", available now at Scrapbook.com.  This has been one of the most requested collections, by fans, to become a re-release.  The Deluxe Collector's Edition is one of those sets that you don't want to miss out on.  It's Alice in Wonderland, meets Halloween.  Originally released in 2010, fans have been clambering for its return ever since.
