Christmas Chickadee Card for Spellbinders

I have another card featuring products from The Snow Garden collection by Spellbinders. This card features the Hemlock, Cones & Chickadee die set, in addition to the new hot foil sentiment plates and other products. One of the fun elements that I really loved making are those tiny little handmade pine cones! Scroll down for creative details.

For my A2 sized card, I started by embossing some gray cardstock from one of my paper pads, using the 3D Four Petals embossing folder, along with my Platinum 6. A technique that I really love is taking a nail file and gently rubbing across the raised embossed edges for a distressed look. It's so easy to do and creates such an impact.

Next, I die cut my elements from the Hemlock, Cones & Chickadee die set. I used the same paper pad for my gray cardstock, to cut the dark green hemlock. 

When coloring birds, I will often Google the bird and use it for inspiration. One of the first images to pop up was the Carolina Chickadee. I used my Kuretake Zig brush markers and a white gel pen, plus a little ink blending on the belly using distress ink. I'm not the most skilled at coloring birds, but I enjoyed the process, regardless.

I also used used the Hexi-Gem nesting dies for the base behind my other die cut elements, ink blending around the edges with Ranger Distress Oxide ink in Vintage Photo. 

Let me also mention, when making those pine cones, I highly recommend using hot glue to really secure them, particularly if you plan on mailing your card. My cones were cut using kraft mixed media paper, then ink blended. If you'd like to see a short reel from my Instagram, check it out here:

Lastly, my sentiment was hot foiled using my Glimmer Hot Foil System and red hot foil with the new Snow Garden hot foil sentiment plates and dies.

CAS Card Series No 4

I'm back with card #4 for my CAS (clean and simple) card series. Today's card is all about gratitude. I'm gearing up for Fall cardmaking and thought this would be a good jump start.

This sentiment truly speaks to me. Some days, it's hard to have an attitude of gratitude. Particularly when we're surrounded be negativity. Many are struggling from the current financial crisis in our country. A constant stream of negativity from world events doesn't help either.

Despite your circumstances or surroundings, you can still find something to be grateful for. Sometimes, we just need a reminder to focus on the positive and don't let the negative consume you.

So, yes. I love this sentiment from the Scrapbook.com stamp and die set, "Gratitude". Gratitude can literally change someone's day. Make a point to look someone in the eye today and thank them; your barista, your server, your spouse, your child, and so on.

It can be a powerful thing and turn someone's day around! Or, send a gratitude card to a friend!

I also used my Scrapbookcom decorative heart dies, paired with patterned paper from the Cozy paper pad. FYI, there's a sale going on now at Scrapbookcom for their exclusive brand products. As of this writing, the heart dies are half price and the paper pad is almost half price! This sale ends about 36 hours from now. The other items I used are on sale as well!

I literally had no idea, until I looked up the products AFTER I made the card so yay, ya'll get a deal if you go shopping before the sale ends!!

     

          

Also, the ink that I used which is a Scrapbook brand hybrid ink which works nicely if you're working with alcohol coloring or water coloring. I use this ink on almost all my cards and keep a re-inker on hand. I've had the same ink pad for many years and never replaced it! I used my Misti stamp positioner to get a good, deep black inking. The exclusive new pink Misti will be arriving this month to Scrapbookcom!

You could also embellish this card more, however I kept it simple, for my card series.

Christmas Cheer Foiled Mixed Media Card for Spellbinders

I'm so happy to share some Spellbinders inspiration for you today. The Snow Garden collection from Susan Tierney-Cockburn just released this morning and it's full of lovely Christmas and Winter products for card making. I'll also be sharing more projects from this release in the coming days. This card features 3 different products from this collection - scroll down for creative details! I started by doing some partial hot foiling on two opposite corners of my white card panel, using Polished Brass hot foil and the Winter Bough hot foil plate (new to this release) with my Glimmer Hot Foil System.

Next, I used Copic markers to color in my foiled images (pine cones, leaves, branches).

After coloring my images, I did some ink blending on my card panel with Ranger Ink Vintage Photo and Prize Ribbon distress oxide inks. My blue ink blending was very minimal since I actually used a blender brush that had leftover ink on it. No need to re-ink it!

I also glued some hemlock die cuts (cut on dark green cardstock) at the other two opposing corners, using the new Hemlock, Cones & Chickadee etched dies. 

Those little white berries were made using Ranger Liquid Pearls in White Opal, and dotted with my Pops of Color in Chocolate Kiss from Scrapbookcom. 

My sentiment was created with black hot foil and The Snow Garden Sentiments Hot Foil Plate & Dies. I absolutely love the font too! Reminds me of the type you'd find on vintage Christmas cards.

I also splattered on lots of Ranger heavy acrylic white paint in addition to swiping some on my branches with a paintbrush. My wintry panel is popped up on adhesive foam with a layer of dark brown cardstock adhered flat on an A2 white card.
