Nativity Scene Card for Erin Lee Creative

I have another card to share with you today, featuring more products from the new Erin Lee Creative Christmas release. I've paired together two of the new die sets, "Love Came Down" and "Manger Scene". While I realize, historically, Jesus was not actually born in winter, indulge me with my creative license! Scroll down for creative details and some historical chit chat. I'll have my shopping supply list at the end of this post as well.

Alright, history lesson first. Does it snow in Bethlehem? Yes, typically in higher elevations and usually every 3-4 years. Their last good snowfall was in 2022. Although this is a desert city, in winter it's more dry than hot. Most scholars and historians believe Jesus was actually born in early Fall/Autumn.

If you'd like to know more about why the birth of Jesus is celebrated at Christmas, check out this article from the Biblical Archeology Society. Ironically, the first image you'll see is a beautiful oil painting of Bethlehem covered in snow, painted by Peter Bruegel in 1566!

Now, for some creative details on my A2 sized card. I used a variety of more earthy, neutral tone papers from some of my paper pads for my manger scene and did some ink blending around the edges with Ranger Distress Oxide ink in Vintage Photo.

I also tore and distressed some paper across the bottom of my scene to represent the desert. A cardboard nail file works great for distressing.

The Love Came Down die set actually comes with an outline die, however, it was taking up too much space for my small, intimate scene, so I opted not to use the outline. Instead of gluing my die cut sentiment to the card panel, I wanted to pop it up for dimension. I used my Platinum 6 for all my die cutting, with white and black cardstock for this sentiment. I used glue to adhere and stagger the white on top of black.

Not only does it give a little more definition against that snowy backdrop, but it also gives me more space to add tiny adhesive foam squares on the back, to pop up my die cuts.

I buy sheets of adhesive strips, so I can trim them down to the size I need for any given project.

My snowy paper actually came from a retired paper pack in my stash, Echo Park Paper Lumberjack Christmas. If you wanted to recreate that snowy background and don't feel comfortable making your own paint splatters, the new Carta Bella Paper Winter Snow Sky stencil is a great alternative. Just stencil onto black cardstock, using white paint! I'll have it linked to my supply list, as well, for the sake of convenience.

Lastly, the star die included in the Manger Scene die set, was cut using gold holographic paper from my stash. Erin Lee Creative also has a great selection of specialty cardstock, in a variety of colors, so be sure and check that out too.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy Holiday cardmaking ya'll!

Terri

Festive Holiday Mug Card

It's the last day to link up to the Coffee Loving Papercrafters Fall/Winter Blog Hop. You have until 11:55 pm pacific time tonight to whip something up! I had some extra creative time today and knocked out another card, featuring Catherine Pooler products and coloring with OLO Markers. I'm also linking this to the Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge Red/Green.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

I've really been making an effort to use up more of the papers in my stash, so I chose these Catherine Pooler 6x6 Milk & Cookie papers. Aren't they the cutest?

My stamped image is from the Catherine Pooler Holiday Mug Shots stamp set, and my sentiment is from the Catherine Pooler/Sizzix Greetings of the Season stamp set.

I used the mask technique to stamp the words Merry and Bright with my CP ink Deck the Halls and Cranberry Fizz ink. You really need to use a stamp positioner to pull this off.

I used the OLO Markers in the photo above to color my mug image. Click here, if you'd like to know more about these artist markers, I love them!

Since my papers are soft in color, I used my nesting circle dies with vellum as a backdrop for my mug, keeping in line with the other elements. I love the effect, with no harsh outlines.

I kept this card fairly simplistic with no flashy embellishments to compete with my patterned papers. I did use a white gel pen for some tiny snow on the Christmas Tree on my mug.

Thanks so much for stopping by! You'll find clickable shopping affiliate links below, if you'd like more details on the products I used, except for my OLO Markers. Happy Holiday cardmaking!

Terri

Christmas Joy Card feat. Angie Blom Digital Designs

Hello friends, I have another card to share for the Coffee Loving Papercrafters Fall/Winter Blog Hop. This card features a combination of several different digital images from Angie Blom Digital Designs who is one of the Super Sponsors for this event. Scroll down for more, plus a coupon code! I'm also linking this card to the Caffeinated Christmas Challenge which is the sister site to CLP.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

First, let me tell you about the digital images used for this card. I just purchased the Christmas Joy Mugs digital set and wanted to work around that super cut holiday drink. Let's call it a Peppermint Mocha, haha! There are 8 adorable mugs in this digital set and several sentiments.

I love Angie's designs and have quite a few loaded onto my computer. I paired the mug, as well as the sentiment from that same set with the gnome from "I'll be Gnome for Christmas" digital set and the tree from "Deer Holiday Wishes".

If you'd like to purchase anything from Angie's Coffee collections, you can get 45% off when you use coupon code JAVA45 at checkout, for a limited time.

Now, if you've never worked with digital images, check out my blog post here, where I go into more detail. I use Microsoft word to add my images and print from my computer. There's a slight learning curve but I think the tips I share on that post will be super helpful, particularly if you've ever wanted to try working with digital images but were too afraid to try.

Once you get the hang of it, you will love it! I love being able to resize and move around my images. I generally work with the png files, they're easier to rearrange and have an empty background around the image, whereas, jpg files have a white background around the image, so if you want to combine several images, you need to use the png files.

I used OLO Markers to color my images and if you'd like to shop or find out more information on these artist markers, click here. I love OLO Markers so much, I became an affiliate! If you have any questions, ask away.

If you'd like to link up to the Coffee Loving Papercrafters hop, Friday Aug. 8th is the last day. Be sure and check out the rules, it must be a newly created card. There are numerous sponsors and lots of prizes being offered.

The Caffeinated Christmas challenge ends Nov. 25 and is sponsored by Pink & Main who are offering up a $50 gc to their shop. Again, check out the rules for linking up. You must have some red and green on your card for this challenge.

I also used a white gel pen to accent my trees with a little snow and to add some light effect to the bulbs on my cup.

One thing I should note, the gnome image comes with a small snowman beside it in the original digital image. I wanted to have my gnome appear as if he was holding his cup, so I simply enlarged my cup and imposed it over the digital image. It was a neat little trick and I love how it looks.

Lastly, the diagonal striped background paper for my A2 sized card is from my Scrapbook.com Holiday Cardstock paper pad. You can click my affiliate link here to view it or shop.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you'll join me for one or both of these challenges! Click the links at the top to hop over.

Have a great day!

Terri
