May Arts Retro color challenge & Unity Be Inspired

I'm so excited to have been chosen for the May Arts Ribbon Retro Color Challenge.  This is my first project with May Arts and it just so happens that the color theme matches with this months Unity be Inspired challenge.  YAY!  So for May Arts, I had to submit a retro idea.  After viewing their Pinterest inspiration board, I immediately had the idea to do a 50's kind of Soda shop theme.  The song Lollipop by The Chordettes popped into my head.  I have this great lollipop stamp from the Unity Stamp Co and I worked from there.

 Here's what I did:

First, I made what looks like a 45 rpm record out of The Paper Studio basic dark cardstock 6x6 stack and sanded it, printed a faux record label and cut it with a 3" circle punch.  Then I placed an enamel dot in the center.  I worked the record until it was just how I wanted it.  The picture below was how I started but not how I finished.  By the way, The Chordettes made Lollipop popular in 1958.  Just a bit of trivia for you.

I colored some stamped lollipop images from Unity Stamps called "Sucks to get old" (birthday set), using Memento London Fog ink to stamp, and markers.  The sparkle is from glitter glue. The Unity stamp actually has a bow in the image but since I wanted to use tied ribbon around the lollipop stick, I masked the bow so it wouldn't show up when stamped.   I tried making lollipop sticks but they ended up too big so I cut the backside off the rolled cardstock and made it flat.  Worked much better on the card.

May Arts sent me  4 different ribbons of my choice from the challenge offerings.  I was required to use a part of each one for the challenge.  I used My Unity ribbon maker (pictured
above) 'cause I need all the help I can get tying cute ribbons!

I used the pink pom pom ribbon to edge the card, the pink sequin centers for the lollipop stick, the peach scalloped grosgrain across the bottom of the card and the turquoise sheer ruffled ribbon to make the tiny bows on the lollipops.

Now for the inside of the card:

I created the frames withe my cuttlebug and QuicKutz Nesting dies.  The stamped background is Inkadinkadoo mini musical stamps inked again with Memento London Fog ink.   The lettering and clock on the frame is from Teresa Collins Vintage Finds kit.

This card is perfect for that special person born in the 50's or to celebrate a dance event/prom or your favorite music lover.
