Adornit and Mountain Plains Crafters Blog Hop

Welcome to the Adornit and Mountain Plains Crafters Blog Hop!

I'm featuring several projects today, starting with this one from the Joy Collection by artist Lindsay Ostrom. For this image, I watercolored using my Zig Clean Color Pens.  The pink and green color combo is one of my favorites!  I highlighted her hair with a white gel pen and some Stickles glitter glue in Mercury Glass.

My favorite technique for watercoloring is to run your pens across an acrylic block, then spritz with water and apply with a wet paintbrush.  Look closely and you'll see those white circles in the background.  I simply drew those in with a white gel pen.  In addition, all of the paper piecing that I've done here is with the Adornit blender paper.  I'm using 3 different blender papers which, by the way, are double sided and fabulous!  The distressed edging of the green polka dot paper is courtesy of my Tim Holtz distressing tool.  Oh, and I almost forgot... I stitched that ribbon onto the paper.  I'm always happy when I use my sewing machine and it turns out like it's supposed to!

I've embellished this card with Stickles glitter glue, Wink of Stella glitter pen, washi tape, embossed paper using my Cuttlebug, May Arts Ribbon burlap string and glitter polka dot ribbon and DoubleClick Skittles bubble embellishments.

Next, is an image designed by artist and owner of Adornit, Carolee McMullins, from the Today Is Best Art Play collection.  I was immediately drawn to the folk art image and really had fun with the color combo of teal/coral.  

For this image, I used my Zigs and directly colored onto my images.  I also used a Tim Holtz waterbrush pen to dilute some of the color and blot with a paper towel.  I watercolored the background and added lots of white dots with a gelly roll pen.  You can do whatever you want!  Add more tiny black dots, draw swirls... it's yours to color!  I matted this onto a 5x7 white card with a frame made from the Spellbinders Detailed Scallops Frame dies and paper elements from My Mind's Eye.

More embellishments here, with May Arts Copper wired ribbon and DoubleClick Skittles.  All my adhesives are by Tombow.

Stephanie Ackerman is the artist who created some of the Faith based images of Art Play.  This piece is from the Pray collection.  I'm a lover of scripture stamps and images and adore what Stephanie has done here.  I switched it up a little and used my Tombow Dual Brush pens on this project.  I chose 3 basic colors; beige, purple and and a fuschia (and a touch of yellow).  To get that tie-dyed look on the edges of my art play, I spritzed the purple color on an acrylic block and dredged my edges across the diluted watercolor.  I love the effect. 

The backdrop was created by stenciling with gold glitter paste and adding some more Adornit blender paper, onto A2 purple cardstock.  More gorgeous May Arts Ribbon, white gelly roll pen, glitter glue and Skittles.

Now, this cute little guy was drawn by artist Michele Hamilton, from the Alphabet Soup collection.  Everyone who knows me, knows I LOVE owls!  I have owl pins, owl necklaces... my sister is always gifting me with something owlish for my birthday or Christmas.  So, this was fun to make.

Let me ask you....have you ever started a card or project and it just wasn't going well?  Did you toss it?  Don't!  My crafty friends have taught me well.   Keep everything!  Well, everything within reason.  I kept this backdrop; an embossed leafy card that I just wasn't happy with.  I've had it in my scrap pile for probably 6 months or more.  When I colored up this owl, I felt like it needed something special.  Although I'm an avid cardmaker, I like to mix it up a bit too.  So, I turned that old discarded piece into a little giftcard/treat box.  

I just scored a few lines here and there and ended up with a nifty little box.  I can slip a gift card in there or drop in some treats for a friend.  The Art Play sentiment is perfect for this: Whoo Loves You?  Well I guess, I do, since you got a nifty little treat box.  Ha!  This time, I used some nesting dies to cut out my art play, and added some gold embossing.  You don't have to leave your Art Play images where it is.  I've been known to do a little clip and snip with my Art Play!  I've used my Zig pens and watercolored some more.  I use the Marvy Le Pen ultra fine point for those tiny black dots.  There's also more Adornit blender paper and some Pretty Little Studio woodgrain stars and Skittles.

My last project features artist Lindsay Ostrom again.  I'm so happy to have gotten to know Lindsay.  She is truly gifted and I adore her work.  This image is from the EEK collection.  You'll see later in the hop that some of the design team went all cuckoo for the Halloween Art Play images!  They are pretty darn fun.  

The base for my card is the Carta Bella Trick or Treat cardstock.  Very appropriate don't you think?  I've added more Adornit blender paper, a doily, some woodgrain Ephemera from Pretty Little Studio, May Arts Ribbon burlap string and pumpkin ribbon, Skittles Witches Brew and Ranger liquid pearls in Pumpkin.  Lots of Halloweenie stuff here!

Here's a close-up of my image.  This was watercolored with my Tombow Dual brush pens again.  To begin, I chose several pens with purples and blues, swiped on an acrylic block, spritzed with water, then brushed onto my paper with a wet paintbrush.  My intent was to give an early evening sky and I love how it turned out.  I have a thing for skies as well as owls!  You know, you don't have to leave your edges white.  You can bling those out as well.  Give it a little dimension and interest.  I watercolored my edges and when dry, added the liquid pearls and tiny dots with the white gel pen and Marvy Le Pen ultra fine point.  There's a touch of glitter glue on the tree trunk and stars as well.
