Christmas Gifts, Lettering and Two Paper Divas Stamps

It's Christmas card making season!  I'm sure some of you are probably way ahead of the game.  Me?  I'm not an early bird, so this is just about the time that I get cranked up.   I had a lot of fun making this Christmas card for Two Paper Divas, using their "Holiday Greetings" stamps.  TPD is having a 40% off storewide sale so don't dilly dally......get to the end of this post and go shop!

But first, the details..... my papers are from the Echo Park Papers collection, The Story of Christmas and I'm using them to also paper piece my gifts.  However, for the bows, I've colored them using various coloring instruments: Tombow Dual brush and Zig Clean Color brushes.  I've even added a little sparkle to my bows with Stickles glitter glue, although this photo doesn't truly capture the sparkle.

For the sentiment, I did a little lettering by my own hand, using the calligraphy pen from my Tombow Lettering set.  I've spent the last 3 months or longer, working on lettering and it requires lots and lots of practice.  I think it's finally starting to pay off.

One of the things I love about this set is the clean and simple lines.  You can do soooo much!  There's a lot of wiggle room so you can get super creative, whether it be adding some of your own little doodles to the images, paper piecing, coloring or even layer with other stamps, such as the TPD Background stamps.  If you don't have this set in your collection, get it before it's gone.  I've used it for so many things and I love it.  Particularly when you need to add a little interest to a card's background, or to give a little character to your tags.

A Wintry Coffee Card For National Espresso Day! Plus, upcoming Event...

I'm back today to celebrate all things coffee because..... it's National Espresso Day!  Friends, you all know I will do anything to celebrate coffee; the bean, the fruit of my mornings and the nightcap to my evenings.... one of God's greatest creations.... the coffee bean.

Of course, my friend Amy from coffeelovingcardmakers.com thought it would be a great idea to celebrate this momentous occasion by flooding the blogosphere with crafty coffee creations so, who am I to argue?

I'm pairing several stamp sets for my little wintry scene, from Stamplorations, along with their new cutplorations dies, Stitched Snow Hills, which I love!  The two stamp sets that I'm using were designed by my sweet friend, Becca Cruger.  They are "Caffeinated Christmas" (you must own this!) and "Reindeer Games".  Total cuteness!  The little coffee cup is my own design that I drew, colored and popped out with foam squares.

If you love Coffee and Crafting, then you'll want to join the upcoming Winter Coffee Loving Cardmakers Blog Hop in December.  It's a week long event where you can link up your newly created coffee, tea or cocoa themed cards, with a winter theme for this event.  There were over 800 entries at the Fall Blog Hop and it's always a ton of fun.  There are numerous and very generous sponsors who offer up prizes, so you don't want to miss this!  I'll be sharing the link when the event goes live.

Here are a few noteworthy happenings for the Hop:

Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop: Dec 9 – Dec 16 at coffeelovingcardmakers.com
National Cocoa Day 12/13
International Tea Day 12/15
Theme:  winter/holiday

The fun starts at 6 am pacific.

I'm also linking my project up to the November Cutplorations Challenge at Stamplorations, here, and the Anything Goes challenge, here.
Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope you have a most wonderful Thanksgiving!  God bless each one of you!

A Camo Christmas with TPD Stamps and Bleach Technique

Here we are, Thanksgiving week, and I've got a Christmas Tree card with a twist, perfect for your favorite member of the Armed Forces, your favorite hunter, or anyone who lives in their camouflage.   As often happens, when experimenting in crafting, I totally stumbled on this look.  It's not what I had intended but I have to admit, I kind of like it.  Ok, I like it a lot.  In fact, I plan on giving this to my retired Army Dad.  He will love it.  Don't forget, Two Paper Divas is having a storewide 40% off sale.  It's the perfect time to snag some amazing stamps at Black Friday prices!  Gift yourself or a crafty friend.

So how did this come together?  There was a fantastic bleach technique, stamping with bleach, in the Fall issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, written by the late, great Christy Riopel.  Basically,   This technique works best on black cardstock, and I'm using the Neenah brand today.  I added a very thin layer of bleach in a ramekin dish and dipped my ornament stamp in the bleach, stamping onto black cardstock in levels, to form a Christmas Tree.  After I finished stamping, I filled in the gaps with more bleach and a paint brush.  Grab a heat embossing tool and dry it for just a minute so the color lightens up.

Next, I tinted my bleach using Green glimmer mist from Spellbinders and Bronze shimmer spray from Bo Bunny, just add a droplet or two.  The colors won't mix if you do one color on both sides of the dish.  Dip your paintbrush into the green tinted bleach and paint the ornaments.  Zap again with your heat tool.  Touch up the right side of your ornament with more plain bleach to give a "light" effect".  Looks camo now, right?  Cool!  Next I filled in the bronze tinted bleach in the gaps because it actually comes out with a light gold sheen.  Very pretty in person.  Zap again with your heat tool and you are done.  Be careful not to overheat or you will burn your bleach image.  I used a paintbrush to draw in a tree trunk with the bleach as well, and dipped my sentiment in the bleach, too.

I grabbed a white gel pen and  a green ultra fine Bic marker to draw in a plaid design on the tree trunk to give it more masculine appeal.

Family Wood Banner for Adornit

Today, I'm sharing a fun banner project that I made for Adornit, using their "Family Wood Swag Kit".  I'm also using some of their amazing scrapbook paper, including the Nested Owl Charcoal papers and the Adornit Blender paper, as well as Laura Kelly's new line of papers for Adornit that are just now available in your independent scrapbook stores.  You will soon be able to find them online at adornit.com and scrapbook.com.

Here's a close-up of those fun owl papers.  I adore them!  I'm also using some Adornit ribbons to embellish at the top of each wood piece.  It was so simple to make, just tracing the outline, cutting and adhering with an adhesive runner.  I prefer my Xyron Creative Station as it adds full adhesive coverage up to a 9" image.

Rather than create a ribbon/string banner across the top and hanging my letters, I added a
ribbon embellishment in the middle, hot gluing the ribbon to the back of my letters, and used some Command adhesive strips to place this in the window of the sun room.

You can purchase this Adornit kit, here or check out some of their other DIY project kits, here.

You can always find amazing things at Adornit, from their boutique line of clothing, to coloring books, scrapbook paper, wood projects and more!  It's a happy place to shop!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  See you again soon, with another fun Adornit project.

Sew Much Fun with TPD Stamps

If you haven't heard, Two Paper Divas is retiring after many, many years of creativity.  I'm so sad to see them go but they have earned a well deserved time of rest and relaxation and have left a wonderful legacy in the craft industry.  They will still maintain their blog and share creations but the store will be closed by the end of the year.  Right now, everything is 40% off storewide.  Many items are already out of stock, but this fun set, "Sew Much Fun" is still available.  It even has a "handmade just for you" stamp.  One can never have too many of those.

I've designed a simple CAS card today that you can easily re-create.  I'm using a stencil from The Crafter's Workship to create a focal point for my little threaded bobbin stamp.  This is such a versatile stamp set with, what I think, are simply the cutest stamps!  I mean, they're so adorable, right?

Gratitude with Adornit

Hello, my lovely friends.  Thanksgiving is almost here and I truly can't believe how this year has flown by. The aroma of roasted turkey and pumpkin pies will soon be filling my mother's kitchen.  Mmmm.  Time to loosen the old belt buckle, right?

Of course, I'm coloring up a sweet Adornit Art Play Paintable image today, celebrating the season of Thanks.  Speaking of thanks, Adornit is having a fun giveaway in their Art Play Facebook Group.  Just post a Gratitude project and be entered to win a Blessed Plaque.  Hurry, though, there's only a few days left to enter.  Or, if you simply must have it now, you can purchase it here.

Here's a little run down on my colored project.  This sweet little guy is from the brand new Adornit Art Play collection designed by Lindsay Ostrom, called, "Sweet Animals".   I've colored this using my Tombow Dual Brushes and my Zig Clean Color brushes, and embellished with gel pens and sequins.  I chose my papers and cardstock to coordinate with my colors and they are from DCWV.  The lettering is my own, as Lindsay designed this image with a blank banner, so you could fill it with your own sentiment.

This collection, which includes 12 different images, is available now in your independent local scrapbook store.  If you can't find it, ask them to consider stocking it in their store.  It will also soon be available at adornit.com and at scrapbook.com so keep checking back.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Creating a Vintage Candle Glow + Video for TPD Stamps

As an avid card maker, each project that I create is, "my new favorite".  So, of course, today's project is,,,,,, my new favorite!  Seriously though, this was super fun to create and I adore how it turned out.  I'm using the "Holiday Greetings" stamp set from Two Paper Divas Stamps and have done some no-line watercoloring, along with creating a super cool vintage glow around my candle.

Here's a close-up of my glowing candle.  If you've never done no-line watercoloring, basically, you're just using a very light colored ink such as a beige or light gray, to stamp your image so there's no dark outline.  I used Mama Elephant Moonlight pigment ink then watercolored with my Tombow dual brush markers.  I would recommend that you color in your candle wreath first, then color your candle, being especially careful not to let your colors bleed.  My papers are from Anna Griffin and I even added a little splatter of DecoArt Multi-satin Cotton Ball paint to my candle, to give it an artsy touch.

To me, the most satisfying part of creating art, is having a vision and being able to translate that vision.  I imagined an old time, glowing vintage candle, the kind found in old story books or old children's Bibles..... I think I successfully captured that image that was dancing in my head.  It looks just like a photograph.  At least, I think so.

If you'd like to see a short video on how to create that candle glow, click the link below to view my YouTube video.  I'd love it if you'd leave a comment and a thumbs up while you're there.  It's a super easy technique and will be worth your time to take a peek.  I'll also be sharing my project on Instagram for #thedailymarker30day coloring challenge.   You can find me @wavingmywand on Instagram.

What's Cookin' with TPD Stamps

It's time for another project featuring Two Paper Divas Stamps, and I've got a fun card today, using stamps from the What's Cookin' stamp set.  There's a store wide sale of 30% off so this is the perfect time to add this set to your collection.

My son loves to cook.  Loves it.  Did I say, he loves to cook?  In fact, he wants to be a professional chef.  I have to say, he's incredibly gifted with cooking skills in the kitchen (takes after his mom, of course).  I recently purchased some amazing papers from Kaisercraft which pair perfectly with my stamps today.

But first, I need to color up my images.  I'll admit, I've had this idea brewing for awhile so I knew exactly the direction that I wanted to take, with a vintage mixing bowl as the star of the show.  I've used my Zig Clean Color brushes for all my images today, sticking with the colors, gray, deep red, flesh, oatmeal and a white gel pen.  I also used my waterbrush to blend and dilute some of the color.

Here's a short two and a half minute video, if you'd like to see the coloring process in action for the bowl.  Today is also the start of #thedailymarker30day challenge on Instagram, hosted by Kathy Racoosin.  I'll be sharing this project over there as well.

When coloring the bowl, I left white space in the middle, touching up with a gel pen as well.  The gel pen served to add a little "flour" to my rolling pin, also.  Use a waterbrush to soften the look.  That's right, I use my water brush all the time with my white gel pen.  Both are staple tools on most of my projects.  Once I finished coloring, I added some glossy accents to my images.  Be sure and let your colors completely dry so they don't bleed when applying the glossy accents.  If you have a heat embossing tool, you can just take a few seconds to dry your image.

Purchase What's Cookin', here.
