Christmas Cards for The Crafty Elves

I'm joining my friends at the Crafty Elves Countdown to Christmas this month, sharing two Christmas cards that I made. I adore my crafty friends Lisa, Michael and Deb and am happy to join them this month. In fact, Deb and I go way back, beginning our cardmaking journey around the same time many years ago. My first card was colored exclusively with Copic Markers and my second card involved layered stenciling. I hope you'll scroll down for more. You'll find product links at the end of this post.

I often share bits of my cardmaking process on my Instagram page, so if you're not already following me there, I hope you'll hop over and do so!

This first card was created using two different Mama Elephant stamp sets, Whimsical Winter and Alpine Carolers, both of which I believe are retired. I always hesitate to share cards made with older products because it can be frustrating when you see something you like but then you can't find the products available. I totally get it! However, I hope this will give you ideas for creating with similar stamps in your own stash.

When I stamped my images, I wanted a more muted color so I used my favorite hybrid ink in Leather from Scrapbook.com, then colored with Copic sketch markers, which I purchase from Scrapbookpal due to the fact they are super reasonably priced. Next, I cut my images with my Brother Scan N Cut. It's one of my absolute favorite tools. Just stamp your image, run it through and it scans and cuts the outline. It's fabulous! You'll find a short video over on my Instagram page on these images being cut.

Next, is a stenciled card using the new Wintry Forest layered stencils from Pinkfresh Studio. Oh my gosh, I've never worked with layered stencils before but this was so much fun! I also can't believe how it looks like misted clouds between my trees. I did leave some gaps so maybe that's why. I think it's very cool!

The photo below was one that I shared on Instagram. I got good and inky with my Catherine Pooler inks, Ranger acrylic paint and paint splatters with a tooth brush. You simply dip a damp toothbrush in acrylic paint, then spray the bristles with your thumb. Make sure you use a box so you don't make a mess everywhere.

I've had some old, glitter tape rolls in my stash from American Crafts for years. I found two colors that coordinated with my inked trees and created a border near the bottom of my card then adhered some lacy ribbon on top so the sparkly colors are just peeking through. Me sentiment was heat embossed on a piece of cardstock that just happens to match my colors as well. I used white pigment ink and white embossing powder to really make the white pop.

I also went in after stenciling my trees and carefully used a cloud stencil around the trees. I think it adds a nice touch, don't you? I mean, who doesn't love clouds?

In addition to the white acrylic paint splatters, I also used some texture crackle paste on the bottom trees with one of the stencils. I'm super happy with how my first card with layered stencils turned out and I hope you're inspired to try it too.
