Blooming Tree Cards for Spellbinders

It's the last day for Christmas in July with Spellbinders! This month has flown by and I have two final cards to share. Both cards feature the new Blooming Tree hot foil plate and die set from the Glimmer Greetings collection. Scroll down for a few creative details! You'll find product links at the end of this post as well.

I wanted to create a clean and simple (CAS) card for my first card. One of the things I absolutely love about hot foiling is that you can ink blend over the foil and that is what I've done here. I did a foiling test on my Hammermill 100 lb Color Copy Cardstock and the image foiled great so I went ahead with it, instead of diving into my Spellbinders Glimmer Specialty cardstock, which I'm running low on. Time for a restock!

To mask around the tree outline, I used my Scrapbookcom Mint tape. First let me say, I was going to use the the outline die that comes with the Blooming Tree die set and cut out the shape on cardstock or computer paper, using it as a "stencil". However, the die cut leaves a border around the tree and if I did that, I would have ink blended outside the lines of the tree. So, masking it is.

I used my Catherine Pooler "Minted" ink and a blender brush and once finished, simply swiped across the foiled areas with a baby wipe.

I used the silver foil with my Blooming Tree hot foil plate and Glimmer Hot Foil System. I absolutely love the detail of this gorgeous Tree!

Let me also mention for the card above, when I laid down my Blooming Tree hot foil plate on my glimmer machine, I also lined up my sentiment at the same time, to create a one layer panel for my A2 sized card. The sentiment is from the Spellbinders Glimmer Holiday Florals hot foil plate set that came out last year. I have used the sentiments from that set over, and over. It's a definite keeper!

Next up is this kraft on white card. Again, I used the same masking technique but this time I went ahead and die cut the tree with the outline die included with the set. My ink blending was with Ranger Distress Oxide ink in Vintage Photo and I used a white gel pen to color in some of the negative areas on my tree and to accent the little leaf dies that come with the die set.

Although, the foiling looks yellow in the photo above, it's actually the "Aura" foil that has a prism effect of many colors. It just depends on how you turn the card but as we all know, capturing awesome images of foiling can be super tricky!

Just look at the angle of the same card below. No yellow at all because there's no light refraction.
In person, the kraft and white theme pairs great with the shimmer of the Aura foil!

There were so many elements on the front of the card, I decided to reserve the sentiment for the inside of the card. I have love, love, loved the new holiday releases from Spellbinders and the opportunity to showcase projects for them in the last couple months.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Click on the product links below if you'd like more details or add some beautiful new goodies to your stash! August is tomorrow and just a few short months until Christmas! Get those cards ready early!
