Spellbinders St Nick Card

I'm still building my stash of Christmas cards and today's card features products from Spellbinders, who kindly sent me the St. Nick die set from the Home For The Holidays collection. For this project, I pulled out several papers (from paper pads in my stash) that I thought would coordinate well together, to create my St. Nick, tree, stars and background. I'm definitely trying to use what I have, so if you have similar papers, you can do the same!

For my star die cuts and the backing to my lantern, I used a gold holographic paper. 

My sentiment, however was created using my Glimmer hot foil system with the Simon Hurley/Spellbinders Joyful Christmas hot foil plate/die set. I actually did some bulk foiling when it was first released. I cannot recommend bulk foiling enough! It's such a great feeling to have multiple foiled sentiments ready at a moment's notice. The foil that I used is the Spellbinders Aura hot foil, my absolute favorite.

I also hand trimmed a sloped "snowy" hillside from white cardstock, then embossed it with one of the Embossing Folders of the Month (Classic Backdrop), using my Platinum 6 die cut system. It's one of  my favorite embossing folders, and gives an unexpected little pop of texture, which I love.

The large star die is also included in the die set, but the smaller one is actually part of the lantern die so I partially stamped the lantern multiple times, just across the top, so I could collect several tiny stars for my backdrop.

 

If you've followed me for any amount of time, then you know I like to create first and measure later. My card dimensions ended up being 4 1/4" x 7 1/4". I have a WeR envelope punch board, so I can make my own custom envelopes but this will also fit nicely in an A7 envelope. I did score and trim my own side-fold card, using my assembled St.Nick die as a gauge for how big I wanted to go with this card. The die pieces, once assembled, create a very tall St. Nick, perfect for slimline cards too!

Both my Santa and my sentiment are popped up on 3D adhesive foam strips, to create added dimension.
