Smooth Sailing with Simon Hurley and Spellbinders

The new release from Simon Hurley is now in the shop and my lovely friends at Spellbinders sent me some of Simon's products to create with. I'll be sharing more in the coming days, but today's card features the Smooth Sailing stamps and dies, ink blending, paper tearing, Solar Paste and 3D embossing! I shared a reel on Instagram recently, showing how I did some "finger painting" over my ink blending, using Solar Paste for my ocean scene. I really love how it turned out! It has such shimmer and shine and so lightweight, you can use your fingers for application. Just have a paper towel or hand wipe ready to clean your fingers.

I will often Google images for inspiration and I did this for my sailboat. I noticed that a lot of real sailboats have lines in the sails, so I drew some lines with an extra fine tipped black pen using a ruler for straight lines on one sail and the curve of my washi tape roll to draw curved lines. Hey, use what you've got, right?

To color my sailboat, I used Copic Markers B97 Night Blue for the sails, C1 and C3 grays for shading the boat, and E33 for the tan lines.

One of my favorite cloud techniques is to tear paper and ink blend above the tear line on cardstock. It's so easy! Just use printer paper and tear randomly for a variety of edges to work with. It yields fantastic results! I find it works best to begin at the top and work your way down. You can also make more gradient color this way. I still had leftover ink on my blender brush from a previous project and never even had to ink it up.

All of my cardstock, cards and card panels are from Spellbinders. I used the Spellbinders 3D Embossing Folder Beveled Diamonds with my white card panel, running it through my Platinum 6 and used this for a little extra pop of dimension, as my backdrop.

I chose the "brave" sentiment with a special friend in mind who is dealing with cancer and is facing a very difficult road ahead. I plan on sending her this card and I hope it cheers her up.
