Ink Smooshed Encouragement Card for Sweet N Sassy Stamps

I was up late making this card, way past bedtime. Sometimes, lightning strikes and when you get an idea, you pretty much can't rest until you lay it down on paper. Know what I mean? I had some excess water spritzed ink left over on a craft mat earlier this week, so I dipped a sheet of mixed media paper into the mix to save for another day. Here's what went down.....

There are so many troubling world events going on, I find myself making more and more encouragement cards. Not only that, but we've had some unexpected deaths in our church as well so my mind is heavily leaning on lifting others up as well. 

I had in mind to use this stamp set from Sweet n Sassy Stamps called "By The Sea", as my ink smooshed colors were perfect for sunset colors. My son is about to leave for a beach trip and maybe this was on my mind too! 

I love that Sweet N Sassy Stamps has such a great selection of scripture stamps in their shop. It's what initially drew me to their store. This is not my typical style of card. I generally am compelled to color a scene for stamped images such as this. I really wanted to just stick with all 3 of the ink smooshed colors though, and I think it really works. There was some open white space which I mostly filled in with more of the orange color. All my inks are from Catherine Pooler and you'll find them linked at the end of this post with the other supplies that I used.

I also outlined some of the lines with a white gel pen and drew in my own birds. My sentiment was heat embossed and the entire panel was trimmed to mount on a mini-slimline card.

Fall Latte and Leaves Coffee Card

My quest for hastening Fall's arrival has begun. Today's card features the new Catherine Pooler stamp set "Fall Calls For Lattes". Scroll down for creative details and a little reminiscing. You'll find my shopping supply list at the end of this post as well.

 Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. Maybe it's because I miss Fall in upstate New York where I grew up. I have so many fond memories of raking leaves, the chill in the air, dressing up for Halloween and all the wonderful smells of seasonal cooking.

To begin, I stamped random patterns with the macchiato ink pad on mixed media paper. I use the Canson paper that you can find at Walmart or big box hobby stores, for watercoloring. Just press your ink pad on a craft mat and grab the color with a water brush.

It's best if you try not to over-saturate your paper. Have a paper towel handy for blotting. I generally will mix my colors as well, for added depth and gradient color. I used 4 different CP ink colors, listed at the end of this post, and used a white gel pen to get that highlight at the top of the apple. Gently swipe it downwards after applying. Once dry, watercolor over the highlight with more of the Catching Rays ink. You don't have to but it does tone it down a bit so the highlight doesn't look too unnatural.

For my cup, I did some masking with my mint tape, to create the cinnamon stick in the whipped cream. I used white puffy paint for the whip cream and sprinkled some brown embossing powder and copper glitter on top.

My sentiment was created with the help of my Misti stamp positioner so I could stamp with gradient color across the word "Fall", multiple times to achieve the look I wanted.

I also created an ink blended strip behind my cup and sentiment which is popped up on foam tape, along with my cup and sentiment.

I forgot to mention, I dipped the handle end of a small paintbrush into some gold paint and dotted all over my leaves for a fun mix of shimmer and dimension, as well. And, I added some watercolor ink splatters to the cardstock before die cutting my sentiment. That just about covers it. Got questions? Ask me in the comments. American Flag Heart Card

I'm working on a stash of patriotic encouragement cards for an Army buddy who was recently shipped out overseas. I'll be occasionally sharing cards of this theme throughout the year. I've been thoroughly enjoying the new collection from Erin Lee Creative that has so many stamps, dies, and more with this theme. Scroll down for more info and creative details.

For this card, I'm using the Heart Flag Die from Erin Lee Creative, along with a die cut sentiment created from the Thank You Hero die set. 

I found some blue and red cardstock in my stash and cut the heart flag using both colors and with white cardstock as well,  I fussy cut a white heart by tracing around my die, so I could use that as a backing. My blue heart die cut was the base and I swapped out red stripes and white stars. I then trimmed out a section from my white heart die cut and adhered it on top.

For the "Thank You" die cut sentiment, I cut 3 die cuts; two white and one blue, running through my die cut machine. The three layers were glued together, then adhered on top of my flag heart, which was popped up on adhesive foam tape.

For my background panel, I did some ink smooshing, spritzing Ranger distress ink in Faded Jeans on a craft mat, lightly spritzing with water, then dredging my white card panel in a random pattern.

Since I had leftover

 

Lastly, since I had some leftover stars in blue and red, I glued some down in a random pattern on my card, topped them with my more glue and added glitter for some sparkle.

I adore these products soooo much! Maybe because I grew up with an Army family and my heart knows the pain of separation. I'm a firm believer in sending a little gratitude and encouragement to my friends in the armed forces. The great thing about this product line, is the versatility in using it for patriotic cardmaking throughout the year was well.
