Juicy Fruit Cards for Spellbinders

I have a pair of cards for you today for Spellbinders that simply make my heart sing. I love pairing black and white stamping with focal colors. The Sketched Citrus peel apart background stamp from Simon Hurley and Ranger Ink are perfect for this! I was totally inspired and love the sketchy look of those stamps. To begin, I stamped a couple A2 sized white card panels with the Sketchy Citrus stamps, then trimmed both card panels at an angle. I'm only using the bottom portion of my trims and will save the tops for another day.

I also ran a pair of A2 sized colored cardstock through my Platinum 6 using the 3D embossing folder, Circle Illusion. It's important that both the stamped card panels and the embossed card panels are the same size, for this project since we'll be laying the angled stamped cardstock on top of the embossed panels. 

Also, the lime colored card panel was from one of my Spellbinders card kits so I'm not sure of the color. I did find Peridot on the Spellbinders site which is close in color and linked it in my supply list. I thought these colors best complimented my colored fruit.

Next, I stamped and colored up some of the pull apart stamps from the Sketched Citrus stamp set. Yes, these pull apart! I think it's so clever that Simon does this with a lot of his stamp designs. It gives you so much versatility.

I broke out my Copic markers to color up these juicy oranges. They could be peaches too, it's totally open to interpretation. When finished, I used the coordinating dies to cut out 4 of the oranges and four of the leafy stems.

My sentiments are from the Simon Hurley/Ranger Ink Watercolor Flowers stamp and die set that was released at the same time. I stamped and die cut the "Hello" and Thank You" words, but hand trimmed the word "friend".

Most of my images and sentiments are popped up on adhesive foam, for added dimension. I did tuck one of the leafy stems behind my angled stamped cardstock, adhering it directly onto my embossed cardstock.

I thought about adding some sequins as added embellishment but honestly, I really don't think it's needed. Sometimes less is more!

I'm so happy that my lovely friends at Spellbinders sent this to me, as it has really sparked my desire to get on the fruit bandwagon, so to speak, haha. I hope you'll give these techniques a try. I know you will love this stamp set as much as I do.

Silhouette Floral Card for Spellbinders

Lots of lovely new products have arrived at Spellbinders, including the latest release from Simon Hurley and Ranger Ink.  Spellbinders sent me several products to play with and I've been having such a great time! Today's card features Simon's Watercolor Flowers stamp set. I decided to go with a silhouette theme and do some heat embossing. Scroll down for brief details!

My first inclination when I saw this stamp set was to create an ink blended sunset with black silhouette flowers. Ink blending is one of my absolute favorite techniques and I have a ton of Ranger products in my arsenal anyway, so let's use them, right?

I chose the distress oxides in Kitsch Flamingo, Spiced Marmalade and Fossilized Amber. This color combination is one that I use often and is my favorite. You just can't go wrong with these pretty colors!

I also splattered a few water droplets around and blotted them with a paper towel.

This is one of those scenarios where I got caught up in the process and forgot to take more pictures, haha. My next step was to do some heat embossing, so I stamped the flowers with clear embossing ink on my card panel, then added my Ranger black embossing powder and melted all that goodness with my craft heat tool.

I also embossed my sentiment as well. If you're able to zoom in, my layered pink cardstock was dry embossed using my Spellbinders Beveled Diamonds 3D embossing folder with my Platinum 6 die cut machine. 

I tried to keep the techniques fairly simple for this card due to time factors because we all need to be able to quickly whip out a card from time to time.

Lastly, I glued on some sequins from my stash that coordinated well with my inky colors.

Sand and Starfish Card for Spellbinders

I have another card featuring the new Simon Hurley/Ranger Ink release, sent to me by my lovely friends at Spellbinders. This is my second card using the Smooth Sailing stamp and die set. I wanted to create a sandy beach scene to accent those gorgeous, etched starfish dies. Scroll down for creative details. You'll also find clickable product links at the end of this post.

To begin, I did some ink smooshing on an A2 white card panel, using the inks you see below. If you've never tried ink smooshing, its' super easy! Just press your ink pad onto a craft mat and spritz with water, then randomly pat sections of your card panel in the mix. Heat dry your wet card in between colors. I started with the Vintage Photo, and finished with the Rusty Hinge ink.

When done, I did some ink blending with a blender brush on all four corners of the panel using the Vintage Photo Ink. 

I also splattered black paint and white paint around my card. I typically drop some of my paint onto my craft mat and spritz with a little water and mix with a paintbrush, then splatter all around.

I love embossing card panels as a backdrop for my focal point. It gives so much added interest to a card, even when just a little of the embossing is peeking out from behind a card panel! I used the Geo Screen 3D embossing folder with my Platinum 6. The design reminds me of a compass and is very fitting for a nautical or beach themed card.

Next, I ran the etched and outline starfish dies with cardstock through my Platinum 6 to create 5 die cuts.  These were adhered in random areas around my card, offset on the card panel edges and trimmed from the edge.

If you follow me on Instagram, I shared a short video in my stories today, showing how I popped out the inner ridges of those starfish using a stylus to give more definition. 

 

Lastly, I did some heat embossing on torn kraft paper for my sentiment and inked up the edges using Ranger Ground Espresso distress ink.
