Easter is upon us and, as a woman of faith, I've shared several Easter cards this season. Cards created with eggs and bunnies. Design projects for various companies in the craft and hobby industry. Today's card was created to inspire me. And, perhaps many of you who also view Easter as a celebration of a risen Savior! Although eggs and bunnies are cute, it's not the reason why we celebrate Easter. Today's card features a graphic design by Angie Blom Digital Designs and OLO Marker coloring. I have a little trick for blending an edge to edge fussy cut image into the background, so scroll on down. You'll find my supply list at the end of this post.
(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)
The digital image I'm using today is called "He Is Risen Cross". I love creating one layer cards, but today, I wanted to make a glorious sunrise and pop up my colored cross on adhesive foam.
Angie is currently having a 50% off sale on the entire store which makes this digital set, $3.00! That's a deal, ya'll! The discount is taken at checkout, no code needed.
Recently, I colored a card with muted tones and I used some of those same colors again today. You can view that card here for comparison. I've tried a number of artist markers over the years. Copic markers were my go-to but due to manufacturing defects over recent years, I decided to give OLO Markers a try. I became such a fan of these inks that I signed on as an affiliate last year!

Let's talk about my background. My sunrise was created by ink blending with Catherine Pooler ink and also swiping ink. I used Orange Twist to ink blend the upper portion of my card panel, and swiped Sparkling Berry across the lower portion to give definition, a break in the skyline, if you will. I also added paint splatters to represent those early morning stars in the sky.
I love the look. The pink section reminds me of a mountainous terrain. We live in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and with low lying cloud cover, you could absolutely see a view like this. Every year, we head for the mountains for a sunrise service and Easter Sunday will be no different. It's a beautiful view and a special moment to honor our Lord.
Now, I really wanted to cut my my image so there was no white cardstock showing, and the flowery cross would blend into my background. The trick is, to cut out as much white out as you can, then color the white space to match your background. Since Catherine Pooler ink is a water based ink, you can easily water color in that white space. Just press your ink onto a craft mat and grab the color with a wet paintbrush or water brush and fill in the white space.
I did have to center my cross over my ink blending, to determine which white space I would need to be colored orange and which would be colored pink.
Also, hindsight being what it is, I should have gone in a little darker, adding another one or two layers of water color to deepen the shade. The color lightened up a bit by the time I assembled my card and took photos. Even so, I'm ok with it!
Also, I hand trimmed a sloped section of black cardstock for the bottom of my card. I love black paired with bold colors, plus it helps tie in some of the black leaves that were part of the digital image design.
I also hand trimmed my sentiment, following the curve of letters, and created a coordinated hand trimmed backing with some of the Sparkling Berry ink. There are two sentiments included with this digital set.
I hope you have a wonderful Easter and are able to spend time with family. My supply list, with clickable affiliate shopping links is below, if you'd like to browse or shop. There is no added cost to you, for shopping through my links, which are provided by the companies that I work with. I am compensated by them, a few cents per dollar, when you make a purchase.
Have a great weekend! Let me know if you have any questions, in the comment section.
