Stenciling with Die Cuts for Catherine Pooler

The new Boho Trends Collection is coming to Catherine Pooler this week and I couldn't be more excited. Once can never have too many butterflies and rainbows! One of the things I love to do with my dies is create stencils with them. I'm always looking for ways to get more use out of my supplies. I die cut the larger butterfly from the Butterfly Buddies die set from white cardstock, using my Platinum 6 die cut machine. I'll sometimes use plain computer paper but it might not have held up as well with all the stenciling for this project.

I absolutely love the Ginger mini ink and wanted to keep the colors (and supplies in general) at a minimum for this card. I know many of you, myself included, find yourselves wanting more flat cards to save on mailing costs and this card definitely fits the bill.

CP inks have been a staple in my cardmaking for years. If you've never tried them, the mini's are a great way to go and the apothecary inks are being released as mini's on Wednesday as well.

My butterflies were stenciled randomly, with some offset to the card panel edge, creating what I like to call "generational stenciling".  I love to use the generational stamping technique, stamping 2 or 3 images with just one inking, and the stenciling here creates a similar effect. In essence, I'm inking up several butterflies with heavy ink, then continuing to stencil without re-inking for that faded look.

I was definitely feeling Monarch butterfly vibes, so next, I cut some butterfly die cuts from the Butterfly Buddies die set on black cardstock, using my Platinum 6 die cut machine. I only used the outline of the die cut and glued a few on top of my stenciled butterflies.

 

I also stamped my sentiments from the Smile Bright stamp set, directly on my card panel using my CP Midnight ink.

Lastly I added glued some gemstones and sequins and applied some Ranger Black Diamond Stickles glitter glue to the body of my butterfly.

3D Embossed Colored Card for Spellbinders

I'm back today with another project using items from the newly released Four Petal Collection for Spellbinders. This card features the 3D Floral embossing folder and I'm coloring this pretty thing up with Copic Markers. You'll find creative details and product links below.

I absolutely love 3D embossing. The images really pop up nicely and this lovely floral embossing folder makes the prettiest card panels. 

I decided to color it using my Copic Markers, similar to what I did for yesterday's project. I also filled in the background with a beige marker.

After coloring my leaves and flowers, I blended distress oxide ink on the inside of my panel and proceeded to splatter droplets of white acrylic paint here and there. 

Next, I stamped a sentiment from the Sweet Day Flowers stamp set on white cardstock and die cut it using the Floral Reflection Etched Die Set.

I also die cut some leaf elements to place under my sentiment, using the Happy Plant die set. A pair of half pearls from Buttons Galore accents my sentiment as well.

Sweet Day Flowers Card for Spellbinders

Hello friends. The new Spellbinders release, Four Petal Collection, is live today. I've made a card featuring the stamp set, Sweet Day Flowers, colored with Copic Markers. Scroll down for creative details. You'll also find product links at the end of this post.

To begin, I stamped my image on Neenah cardstock using my Misti stamp positioner, then chose a variety of Copic Sketch artist markers to color with.

To highlight some of my images, I used just a touch of white gel pen on the top edges and gently swiped downward with my finger.

I really wanted to have these gorgeous blooms pop off the page, so I decided to color my background with a black copic marker. It can be detailed work with small spaces between images. Again, I used my white gel pen to touch up any spots that faded due to overlapping with my black marker, such as the leaf stems.

I added a coral colored paper that complimented my coloring for my background panel, then adhered my stamped, colored image. I then created a rectangle frame using my Platinum 6 die cut machine, nesting dies and double sided adhesive foam sheets.

Once my frame was lined up on my card, I peeled off the top layer and pressed a trimmed piece of my Glimmer Hot Foil in Polished Brass onto the sticky frame, gently rubbing all over, then peeling off the foil sheet.  It turned out so pretty!

You can use Glimmer Hot Foil sheets with adhesive foam, it's not just for hot foiling! 

I almost forgot to mention my sentiment. There are several wonderful sentiments that come with this stamp set. I decided to do some heat embossing, using clear embossing ink and Ranger Gold Tinsel embossing powder. I was hesitant to swipe my surface with my powder pack to prep the surface first, as I didn't want it to discolor my black coloring. I ended up with a few stray embossed gold flecks around the sentiment, but it actually looks very pretty in person. A little gold fairy dust!
