Watercolored Coffee Cups with the Misti

I'm sharing this colorful project today for the Coffee Loving Cardmakers Summer Blog Hop as well as So Suzy Stamps.  The hop is in full swing and you are welcome to join in with your summer creations featuring coffee, tea or cocoa.

Scroll down for my inspiration behind the bold summer colors!  I also have affiliate links at the end of this post if you'd like to do some shopping.  Enabler alert!

Many years ago, (don't ask HOW many!) I married The Hubs.  He was fresh out of college and was visiting the incoming freshman (me).  One year later we were engaged and 9 months after that, we got married .  We spent our honeymoon in Destin and Panama City Beach, FL.  It's about a 5-6 hour drive from where we live and has the whitest, sugary beaches you will ever find.  It's a beautiful vacation spot.  You'll also find the most colorful beach houses, as pictured below......

Yes, those gorgeous houses are actually in Panama City Beach, Florida.  I wondered, how could I incorporate summer into the coffee project that I had in mind?

I also spotted a super fabulous project from my pal Jen, at Caffeinated Papercuts. (click, here)  I knew I wanted to use my cup stamp in multiples and Jen's colorful, multitude of caffeinated goodness, pushed me in the right direction.

I grabbed my Lawn Fawn Rainbow Plaid papers, some other goodies and went to work.  This is an amazingly quick card to put together.  All in all, it took less than 10 minutes from start to finish to complete.

The easiest way to accomplish this stamped layout and get it pretty darn near perfect, is use a Misti stamping tool to restamp each image 2-3 times for full, deep coverage.  Using a small pierced rectangle die I cut a piece of Strathmore mixed media paper and eyeballed my first stamp in the middle.  Next, stamp to the far left or right, then stamp at the far opposite.  Now, you can easily line up and stamp the two remaining spaces left just below your center stamp.  I chose to stamp in an arc and leave room for a small sentiment.

Coloring is super easy by grabbing some great watercolor markers, swipe on a craft mat and pick up the color with a slightly wet waterbrush.  Use a different color for each cup.  Using a paper towel, blot slightly on the right side of each cup for a "light effect".  Add more color as desired but heat dry for a few seconds before adding more color to each cup.  If you'd like, add some ribbon and buttons for embellishment.

Thanks for popping in to take a look at today's project.  I hope I've inspired you to give this a try.  You can link up to the summer hop, here, but hurry, Friday 6/30 is the last day.
