Spellbinders Stitchmas Christmas

Hello cardmaking friends! Spellbinders is celebrating Christmas in July with some fabulous new releases! I'm so happy to help them celebrate with several collections over the next couple weeks.

Today, I've created a pretty pair of cards from the Stitchmas Christmas collection that features the Stitched Joy Etched Dies and the Stitched Diamond Argyle Etched background die. I fell in love with stitching all over again, it's been years since I took up the needle and thread.  Scroll down for more photos, creative details and products linked at the end of this post.

As I said, it's been years since I played with stitching. I used to cross-stitch a good bit but then life got in the way and last year, my sister took all my remaining threads off my hands. 

I'm kind of kicking myself now! Luckily, embroidery thread is pretty inexpensive so I'm having fun choosing new colors again

I'm a big fan of keeping colors simple most of the time. I will often choose 3 colors only for a card and I've stuck with that for the most part on this pair of cards. I do not count white as a color.

In my card above, I used two different colors of pink thread, green and a tan color which I like to call "kraft", haha! I used the kraft colored thread for my diamond argyle stitched cover plate.  I LOVE this die!

The Stitched Joy set comes with some additional tiny dies and one of those dies is a little round die which can be used for the center of a flower. I chose to cut a bunch of those with pink paper and make paper "confetti" that I adhered to the center of each of my diamond argyle sections on the background.  Micro adhesive dots from Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L are my fave for things like this.

Here's a tip, if you want to make multiple cards like these. Since the Stitched Joy Etched Dies also come with the individual letter dies, cut multiples of each letter with different cardstock and mix and match them for each card.

For the card above, I cut my background with the Stitched Diamond Argyle die again and stitched with the same "kraft" colored thread for a tone on tone look. I repeated my paper confetti centers with green this time. Under my stitched panel is a layered A2 size pink cardstock that peeks through.

In my first card, my Joy stitched panel was with white cardstock. For my "kraft" colored card, the panel was a light pink instead of white. I used what I had in my stash but Spellbinders has an amazing selection of cardstock. You should check out their colors!

I also created a word sentiment from the Glimmer Holiday Florals Hot Foil set that came out last Christmas season. I foiled just two words from the set with my Spellbinders Aura foil and my Glimmer machine.

Here's a close up of some of my stitching. I placed a center knot inside each of my floral blooms. Don't ask me how I did it, it was totally trial and error, haha!
