Stitched Christmas Card for Spellbinders

The new Spellbinders Stitching Die of the Month club selection is out and I'm absolutely loving it! "I'll Be Home For Christmas" is the titled collection and includes a cover plate (and outline die) with ornament cutouts, a tree, etched sentiments, and even ornament toppers in two different sizes.

So many of the elements in this collection can be used independently as well, which I love. There's just something about stitching on cards that seems so meaningful. The extra attention and detail tells the recipient that they were worth the effort, you know what I mean?

I also had a lot of fun sparkling up my card, too. For my ornament toppers, I placed my dies on adhesive foam sheets and ran them through my Platinum 6. Next, I peeled off the top lining and applied a strip of Spellbinders glimmer foil. I love the shine! I also added little dots of glitter glue all over my card panel, as well.

I used white DMC embroidery floss, 2 strands, for my stitched die cuts. There are so many color schemes you can go with on a project like this, however, I chose 3 main colors; white, pink and a mint green.

My coordinating papers are from a Scrapbookcom holiday paper pad called Merry.

Grungy Fungi Stitched Card for Spellbinders

Hello friends, I have some grungy fungi for you today, haha. This card was created for Spellbinders and features the September Stitching Die of the Month Club selection, "Enchanted Stitched Mushrooms". Enchanted, they are! I absolutely love these dies and I went for more of a grungy theme by enhancing my die cuts with Ranger distress ink. Scroll down for details. You'll also find product links at the end of this post.

This stitching die set includes dies to make 2 different sizes of mushrooms, a leafy stem die and two sentiment dies. 

Since I knew I wanted to go with a grungy theme, I started by trimming dark brown cardstock to back my card panel that was blended all around the edges with Ranger Ink Ground Espresso distress ink. My panel was cut using my Platinum 6 die cut system and another die from my stash; the Diamond Argyle Etched Dies from the Stitchmas Christmas collection.

Next, I ink blended all of my mushroom elements around the edges with the exception of the white outline that is backed behind the mushroom top.

For my stitching, I used 2 strands for each element of  DMC embroidery floss #543; a light beige or off white color. Spellbinders has a 5 pk bundle of neutral DMC floss that would work really well!

The papers that I used are from a variety of brands and just colors that I picked from my stash that I thought would coordinate well for what I had in mind. I also hand trimmed and tore some paper for a sloped hill effect near the bottom of my card.

I cut several layers of cardstock for my die cut sentiment in dark brown. For the top layer, I cut the word with a leftover piece of white cardstock and just blended a little ink on top with the leftover ink on my blender brush. I kept it light so it would pop and coordinate next to that dark brown cardstock.

To further embellish my mushrooms, I added  tiny dots of my Pops of Color liquid embellishment called Chocolate Kiss.

If you'll notice the smaller mushroom, I glued on some of the circular cuts that were leftover bits from my die cut brown mushroom.

August Stitched Card for Spellbinders

Hello friends. The August Spellbinders club kits are now open for new subscribers. Today's card features the Stitching Die of the Month club selection, Stitched Floral Card Front. This set includes a stitched cover plate with several smaller dies for a total of 16 dies. I love having the ability to mix and match various colors of die cut pieces to make one of a kind creations! I have a color wheel app that I use sometimes when I'm stumped on a color combo. My color wheel gave me some jewel tone colors that included dark colors in green, blue, purple and a plum color.

I really wanted to incorporate a plum color but I didn't have a cardstock to match. Guess what's going on my wishlist?! I did use dark purple DMC embroidery floss, color 550, to stitch on some of my blue flowers.  The blue and green cardstock that I used were card panels included in previous Spellbinders card kits.

I also opted to foil my leaves by die cutting on adhesive foam sheets, I first applied my Spellbinders Aura foil to the foam sheet, then topped with my leaf dies and ran them through my Platinum 6.

Lastly, I embellished my die cuts with half pearls, crystal gemstones and Ranger Ink Platinum liquid pearls.

Stitched Snowflake Card for Spellbinders

The July Stitching Die of the Month Club Subscription is live and it's Christmas in July! This month's kit is called the, "Stitched Snowflake Cardfront". It comes with a stitched cover plate and the large stitched snowflake die. I started by die cutting my dies on white cardstock with my Platinum 6. I decided to cut 2 of the snowflake dies in white. Read on, and you'll see why. My card is a bit larger than an A2 size, as that's the size of the cover plate. 

I trimmed my own card with an 8.5x11 inch cardstock. It leaves it a tad short on the backside for a vertical card but that is perfectly acceptable. A vertical card will actually stand to display much better, even if the back is slightly short.

 

True story, I've been watching the History Channel survival show "Alone". The contestants have to survive on their own in extreme winter and wilderness conditions. They have to utilize everything at their disposal to survive, including eating whatever they can scavenge. Maybe that's why I decided to salvage those tiny little dots from my snowflake die cuts, haha! Using up everything at my disposal!

I thought it would take longer, but it only took about 20 minutes to glue all the bits. I simply dropped a dollop of glue onto my craft mat and used the sharp end of my Tool N One to grab the glue, tap into the hole, then grab the dot with my sharp point while it was still sticky. It was easiest for me to line up and drop the glue in 3 center holes at a time, then grab each bit and press it in. Kind of like an assembly line. It definitely takes patience but I was pleasantly surprised with the result.

I really like the rustic look of Christmas so that is the color scheme I was going for. I used variegated DMC embroidery floss for my stitching. Did you know Spellbinders carries DMC brand embroidery floss? Check out their selection, here.

I should mention that I also cut my snowflake on dark green cardstock to coordinate with my layered panel. I swapped out some of the white pieces for the dark green on my snowflake center.

To finish my card, I added some Pops of Color at the top and bottom of my snowflake die in Olive. I also die cut the etched word "Peace" from the Tiny Merriment die set.

I'm pretty sure that I get way more joy out of creating cards than the recipients who receive them. I'm sure you feel the same way too!
