Winter Woodland Christmas Card for Spellbinders

Hello friends, I'm back with another card for Spellbinders, featuring products from the new Joyful Christmas collection in collaboration with Simon Hurley. Today's card features the Winter Woodland stamp/die bundle. Scroll down for creative details, plus I'll tell you how I chose the style of coloring for my bird!

For my vertical A2 card, I started by cutting a panel using the Spellbinders Fern cardstock and embossed it with the Geo Screen embossing folder.

I don't consider myself very skilled when it comes to coloring birds. I definitely struggle. That's when I turn to Google and look up bird images for inspiration. I wanted to feature a bird common to where I live in here in the Southern United States, so I chose the House Finch which has red on it's head and breast, with brown wings.

I recently did some mass hot foiling with my Glimmer Hot Foil System and the Joyful Christmas Sentiments Hot Foil Plate and die set.  It's a wonderful feeling having a ton of holiday sentiments all ready to go! I foiled a batch with red foil and picked one of these for my card today.

Real Leaves Fall Card for Scrapbook.com

The Hi Fall stamp isn't just for Fall. You'll find so many cards using sentiments from this set that fit many occasions over on the Gallery Page. I had an idea in mind for this Mini-slimline card and it totally turned into something else. You know how that goes, right?

Have you seen my reel over on Instagram where I plucked real leaves out of my back yard, then turned them into 3D embellishments? The Scrapbookcom adhesive foam sheets and Autumn Leaves shaped die set made it happen and it was quick and so easy to do.

Just spread out your leaves on a sheet of adhesive foam making sure to peel off the top liner before applying the leaves. Once your leaves are in place, top with the Autumn Leaves dies and run through your die cut machine. I did let them air dry overnight, then topped with clear gloss to "seal" and protect them.

I also wanted to use up some of my patterned paper so I grabbed this plaid paper from my Echo Park Paper pack and made a mounted panel. I also trimmed up some white squares with white cardstock and ink blended the edges with Vintage Photo distress oxide ink.  Next, I splattered on some Dina Wakley gloss in Sage and and Ranger distress stain.

My sentiments from the Hi Fall stamp set were stamped and mounted with woodgrain paper from the same EPP paper pack. There are larger sentiments in the set as well, but I just wanted to use the small words to offset my leaves. It kind of reminds me of a gallery showing, haha, with pictures mounted on the walls!

I love how it turned this card turned out, even if it wasn't initially what I had in mind. Plus, taking an idea to turn real leaves into embellishments worked out beautifully! Just make sure they aren't too "juicy". I ran a few through my die cut machine that were a little too fresh, if you know what I mean and expressed some juices on my acrylic plates. It cleaned up easy enough but the drier leaves worked much better and gave a better appearance on the adhesive foam.

Joyful Christmas Spellbinders Simon Hurley Collab

Have you seen the new collaboration with Spellbinders and Simon Hurley?  It's the Joyful Christmas collection and I absolutely adore every product in this collection! It's full of so many beautiful and whimsical stamp sets, die sets, hot foil products and more. Scroll down for a few tips, a 1 minute reel and product links at the end.

Spellbinders was kind enough to send me some of the products from this collection, which include the Winter Woodland stamp/die bundle, the Candy Stripes die set and the Joyful Christmas Hot Foil Plate/Die Set. 

I started by coloring up that adorable reindeer from the Winter Woodland stamp set using my Copic markers and embellishing with a white gel pen. Before I realized what I was doing, I was fussy cutting my image. Huh-lo Terri, there's a coordinating die set in the other room..... sigh. Haha, old habits!

Are you following me on Instagram? I made a 1 minute reel showing some bulk foiling of those gorgeous hot foil sentiments in red, black and aura colors. It was so quick and easy and yielded about 15 different colored sentiments in under 10 minutes! I love my Glimmer Hot Foil System. It's one of my absolute favorite tools.

Creating those candy stripe die panels was super easy as well. If you flip one of your striped die cut panels, it makes a plaid design! I used a little glue to adhere the striped panels to my A2 sized white card, only gluing along the outer edges, leaving the inside stripes bare. I highly recommend you use glue as it might be easy to tear the stripes using an adhesive runner, if you use a lightweight paper, and you'll also wind up with a lot of excess adhesive on your card.

 I decided to create a diamond shape die cut using my Essential Diamonds etched dies, popped up on adhesive foam to mount under my reindeer. My reindeer also has adhesive foam backing and I doubled up on adhesive foam for my sentiment. 

All in all, a very easy card to create which is a huge bonus for me and I'm sure, for you too, right?
