New Simon Hurley Christmas Release

Happy Friday to all my cardmaking friends! I'm so happy to share a couple cards today, created with the new Simon Hurley and Ranger Ink Christmas release, along with products from Scrapbook.com. Scrapbookcom kindly sent me several items from Simon's release that went live today. You can click this link here to view the new release at Scrapbookcom, sorted with the newest products first! You'll find my supply list with clickable affiliate links  at the end of this post. Scroll down for details on how I made these cards, my thought process, plus additional photos!

First up is a card that I made featuring Simon's Sketched Christmas stamp set. I'm calling this scene, "A Skater's Wintry Night". There are some really lovely images and sentiments in this set, but I really zoomed in on those skaters and wanted to create a winter scene around them.

I did not have the coordinating dies that goes with these stamp sets, so I'll be doing a lot of fussy cutting. However, they are available and linked with my supply list at the end of this post!

I started by using an A2 sized sheet of Scrapbook.com black mixed media cardstock. It's thick and sturdy and really takes heat embossing well, along with paint splatters.

I heat embossed the pretty Christmas tree from this stamp set, using my Wow embossing powder in Verdant from the Summer Twilight Trio collection. It's a mix of gold and green and currently out of stock, but you can click here to be notified when it's back in stock. Wow Embossing does have some other suitable green embossing powders, here.

For my moon, I placed some of my Scrapbookcom mint tape over some scrap white cardstock and used a one inch circle punch. Peeling off the tape, I placed the circle cut tape in the upper lefthand corner.

Next, I ink blended with white pigment ink around the tape using a domed blender tool to create the   moon glow. Once I peeled off my tape, I mounted my white circle punch in the space with adhesive strips.

The skater image is one stamp with two skaters and a small, open sketched outline around them. However, I wanted to create a larger frozen pond.

First, I stamped my skater stamp twice, once on white cardstock, fussy cutting the skaters from the pond, then stamped again on gray cardstock from my Scrapbookcom Christmas solid paper pad , masking my skaters legs so they didn't show up in the stamping on the gray. It's helpful to use a stamp positioner for this technique.

Next, I fussy cut around the sketched pond, then continued trimming my cut all the way to the other edge of my A2 card panel, so it would encompass the entire width of my card panel. My fussy cut skaters were mounted on adhesive strips and placed back into the scene.

I also trimmed a sloped section of white cardstock to create my snowy hillside and the dark green layered paper underneath is from the Scrapbookcom Christmas Solid paper pad.

I splattered lots of Ranger heavy acrylic white paint mixed with a touch of water, and also used the opposite end of my paint brush to create the larger bits of snow by dipping the end of the brush directly into the paint and dabbing onto my scene.

For my sentiment, I went around my trimmed, stamped sentiment with my clear embossing ink pad, then sprinkled on the same embossing powder that I used for the tree and heat set it. I did a little masking beforehand, to stamp my word JOY in red ink.

I love how this turned out and it was such a fun card to make!

I typically name my cards and this next one is "Santa On A Shelf". Fun fact, my mom had quite the collection of Santa's. Large ones that sat on the floor, as well as decorative pieces for her mantel. I wanted my Santa to be placed above the mantel that is decorated with other stamped images from this set; candy canes, greenery, ribbon bows, ornaments and wrapped gifts.

Simon's products used for this card include the Sketched Santas stamp set and Brick background stamp.

I started by stamping my background stamp using Ranger Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink with my Scrapbookcom blender brush on white cardstock, then ink blending more across the entire panel.

I used my Scrapbookcom hybrid ink in Leather to stamp all of my images (except the greenery) on white cardstock, coloring them with artist markers and fussy cutting them.

My Greenery was stamped with my Scrapbook.com hybrid ink in Pine, then colored in more with lighter green markers and tan markers.

I also heat embossed my sentiment from this stamp set, using Ranger Ink Super Fine White Embossing Powder with my clear emboss ink.

My striped papers used in my background are from the Scrapbookcom Noel patterned paper collection that also includes that deep, brownish red solid paper in the pad. I also created a frame die cut to border my sentiment, using my Scrapbook nested rectangle dies.

Such a fun, happy Christmas card and I know my Mom would be tickled pink that she inspired this mantel scene if she were still with us. So much of cardmaking is a result of memories from our lives, that unfold onto paper, wouldn't you agree?

I hope to share more in the coming weeks so be sure and stick around. I love nothing better than a good Christmas in July celebration and anything that will distract me from this horrid summer heat we're experiencing in the southern united states!

Have a great day!
