I am so happy that Your Paper Insider invited me to create with one of their subscription boxes. I've had this idea for a pun themed spring/Easter card for awhile, and this was just the incentive I needed to finally bring it to life! Plus, the colors I needed jumped right out of the box. It was meant to be! Scroll down for a brief chit chat. I'll also have my supply list linked at the end of this post.

I'm creating with Box One today, the initial launch box of the mystery subscription kit. It's a quarterly subscription of curated papers and cardstocks from all over the world, currently available to continental US mailing addresses only. Box One actually contains some very exclusive Gira papers from Japan.
In the photo below, are all the various papers and cardstocks included in this box, with the five colors I used at the top.
Here are those colors:
Gira Pink Pearl – 120g 8.5×11
Cosmo Vanilla Pearl – 94# 8.5×11
Wealth Warm Gray Weave – 100# 8.5×11
Sunny Yellow Cardstock – 80# 8.5×11
Touche Black Smooth – 111# 8.5×11
My goal was to have the papers be the star of the show and I certainly hope I've done that. My card dimensions are a little smaller than A2 size, measuring in at 5 x 4 inches.
I used my guillotine trimmer to scale down my Sunny Yellow paper into four A2 size card panels (4.25 x 5.50 inches). I then took one of those card panels and hand trimmed the top into an oval shape with my scissors.
I did some ink blending around the edges with Ranger Ink Distress Oxide Vintage Photo and a blender brush.
Next, I used a hole punch with the Touche Black Smooth Cardstock, for the eyes. I love the feel of this paper. It has somewhat of a matte finish and it is absolutely gorgeous!
For the beak, I trimmed a small section from the Gira Pink Pearl Cardstock, and trimmed two triangular corners. This is a very special cardstock, made in the Fukui Province of Japan. It has a luminous sheen that is unique and named Gira which means "sparkling".
I'm not going to lie, I felt a little guilty adding a touch of ink blending to my beak with more of the Vintage Photo ink. I wanted to add a little definition and see how it looked, but I definitely felt like I was messing around with royalty, haha! Truth be told, you can absolutely get away with no ink blending and still have a perfectly cute beak!
For my cracked egg shell, I trimmed some of the Cosmo Vanilla Pearl cardstock. This textured cardstock worked perfectly for my egg shell. I simply used my scissors to create a zig-zag pattern across the top.
Once I adhered my trimmed elements to my card, I splattered some light blue paint around for a speckled effect, using a wet paintbrush. You could absolutely eliminate this step. I mixed a little bit of blue ink from an ink pad with white acrylic paint to achieve this color.
Lastly, my sentiment was created in a handwriting font on Microsoft Word and printed from my desktop computer. I did edit the word "crack" to be in italics.
Although I'm highlighting one of the subscription boxes, you can also purchase these boxes ala carte but at a higher price point, after the initial release period of each quarter (if they're not sold out). There are also lots of other specialty papers available for purchase so be sure and check out all the offerings.
There last subscription release was January 15th and the next release will be in April 15th. Check out the FAQ's section here for more information.
