Ice Cream Cards for Catherine Pooler Designs

The new Better With Sprinkles collection from Catherine Pooler Designs is now live! I love, love, love making ice cream cards so I was super excited for this release. It's perfect for summer cardmaking! Let me also say, I truly believe that cards can tell stories and I definitely had a story in mind for this first card. Want to hear it? Alrighty then! So here it is...it's my bestie's birthday and it's my treat. We're headed to Payne's Soda Fountain in Scottsboro, AL. It's a gorgeous summer day, the skies are so blue and we've got a window seat. And of course, sprinkles! Payne's Soda Fountain is a real place. A retro old fashioned diner that's been there for years and has so much incredible nostalgia. Our family went there last summer to visit. Highly recommend if you're ever passing through!

But first, Boardwalk ink makes it's debut, as well as a new Shimmer called Oh Boy. The card above features the new Shimmer, and Boardwalk ink makes an appearance on my second card further down.

If you follow me on Instagram, maybe you caught my ink smooshed panel in my stories that features the Oh Boy Shimmer. I did my smooshing on white mixed media cardstock and when you move and turn the panel, you can see such gorgeous shine.

I ended up using a portion of that card panel for this card. But what I'm really excited about is the Birthday One Liner stamp set! My first thought, when I received that stamp set, was to create a frame of sentiments to offset my center focal piece. I absolutely love how it turned out. I was also thinking of my bestie the entire time I worked on this card!

A stamp positioner is key in creating this sentiment framing. I kept picking and choosing various sentiments that would line up and look fairly even all the way around. 

This card only features 3 colors as I was going for a minimal contrast of colors. I used Icing on the Cake ink for my stamped images, sentiments and also for the stenciling with the Check This Layered stencil set.

For that pop of pink cherry, I used Party Dress ink with some white gel pen embellishment.

I also trimmed some of my CPD Over Coffee cardstock as the backing to my sentiment panel and also as the backing for my ink smooshed trimmed panel. I also dredged Icing on the Cake ink across all edges of my stenciled check border.

Last but not least, I did some watercoloring on my stamped ice cream dish with more Icing on the Cake ink and a waterbrush.

The full dimension of this card is 4.50 x 5.50 inches.

 

Both of my cards feature the Another Trip Around The Sun-dae stamp set, but my card above also features the coordinating dies.

When I created this card, I did not have the new patterned papers included in the Better With Sprinkles collection, so I went through my stash of CPD paper collections and came across this pretty striped paper from the Arnold's Drive-In paper pack. Alas, I'm not finding it on the site so it must be retired. 

I simply trimmed that patterned paper at various angles. You could recreate something similar using the CPD Shea Butter cardstock which is available separately and also in the Spa Cardstock collection.

I also trimmed some green and blue cardstock from my Party Cardstock collection and adhered all my papers on top of a white top fold card.

Next, I swiped some Boardwalk ink on white cardstock and stamped the ice cream images directly on white cardstock using these inks:

Icing On The Cake, Honeycomb and Pistachio 

I used the Around the Loop Nesting dies to die cut some ovals for both my stamped ice cream and a larger die cut for my swiped Boardwalk ink.

The finishing touches are a stamped sentiment using Cargo ink, and lots of enamel dots from the blues and oranges collections. I went with the lightest colors from those sets, as I was going for an overall pastel feel for this card.
