Mixed Media Ice Cream for Catherine Pooler Designs

Hey friends, I'm back sharing another card for Catherine Pooler Designs, featuring the new Better With Sprinkles collection and new Boardwalk ink!  I had so much fun creating this mixed media card using stamping, watercoloring techniques and paint splatters. My stamping features the "Another Trip Around the Sun-dae" stamp set and the "Birthday One-Liners" stamp set.

I'm also using a variety of CPD inks:

Boardwalk, Party Dress, Blue Raspberry, Icing on the Cake, Pistachio, Honeycomb, Samba and lastly, Cargo for my stamped sentiments.

Because I'm watercoloring, I like to used white mixed media cardstock. The ink just flows better, in my opinion. I started by using my low tack mint tape offsetting it approximately 1/2" off all sides of my card. 

Within that space, I then began stamping randomly with an acrylic block, starting with all my cones, then all my ice cream and finally, filling in some of the gaps with the cherries.

With the tape still adhered, I watercolored all the empty space with the Boardwalk ink. Make sure your tape is secure all the way around so you don't get any bleeding under the edges. If you do get a little bit, no worries, simply use a white gel pen to touch it up. 

To watercolor, simply press your ink pad onto a craft mat, spritz with water, then use a waterbrush to distribute the color. If you don't have a craft mat, you can even use plastic wrap or an acrylic sheet.

Next, I heat set my watercoloring with my heat craft tool and splattered some diluted white paint with a damp paintbrush, concentrating some of the splatters on the ice cream scoops, as well.

 

After stamping my sentiments and trimming the cardstock into strips, I used the Boardwalk ink to line the edges of my sentiments, then popped them up on adhesive foam strips and adhered my card panel to an 

                       A2 size top fold scored card that I made with my CPD white cardstock.

It really is a rather quick card to make, once you get in the groove. I hope you'll give this a try!
