Wintry Valentine Card

Hello friends. I'm back with another guest design project for Whimsy Stamps, sharing this Wintry Valentine that features the Tweetie Pie stamp set and Cozy Winter paper pack.  I am so smitten with these sweet birdies and couldn't wait to create with them.  Scroll down for a few creative details!

I love the size of my centerpiece stamp.  Because of this, I chose to make a simple square card with minimal ink blending, and focus on making these tweetie birds shine!

Let me tell you, I do not consider myself an expert on coloring with Copic markers.  In fact, I am a bit of a rebel in that I like to do my own thing.  I often swipe colors to test and see what may or may not work rather than following the standard recommended rule of choosing 3 colors in the same family, with a 2 or 3 number variance between colors.

In the photo above, I cut a square piece of Neenah 110 lb solar white cardstock and did some minimal ink blending with a hybrid light pink ink.  I left the center white, for placement of my birds heads to begin coloring.

It's most likely cold in much of the USA during February, so I thought it would be fun to once again, stretch those holiday stamps into the great beyond for Valentine's Day.  As I did for my last project, I'm once again accenting a snowy scene with a white gel pen.  It add's a fun flair and that added bit of interest, I think. If you'll look closely, you can see that I also accented the musical notes and drew in tiny white hearts around my bird stamp.

My card is layered with the pink snowflake sheet from the Cozy Winter paper pack and adhered to my square scored card.  I'm also a matchy matchy kind of girl, so I initially chose my paper and then decided what coloring implements I would use to coordinate

If you'd like to know which Copics I've used, here's the run down:

Birds: E33, YR21, Y21, Y11, 0
Bird Hat: R32, R20, RV10
Bird Scarf: B97, B93, B000
Branch: E33, E31, E00

Thanks again to Whimsy Stamps for allowing me to share what inspires me, with their lovely products.  I hope you are inspired as well!  You'll find links to most of the products that I've used below.

Stay crafty, and make something sweet for your loved ones this Valentine's Day!  Kindness is the gift that keeps on giving.  Terri

Stretching Your Christmas Stamps

Hello crafty friends.  I'm so happy to be guest designing today for Whimsy Stamps!  Any time you can extend the life of your stamps and use them beyond what they were intended for, I'm all about that.  So today, I'm sharing how I've used the Gingerbread Greetings and Tweetie Pie clear stamps beyond Christmas, and on into winter, as Thank You cards for all those gifts you received!

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

I wanted to make a set of cards that coordinate, so I chose 3 basic colors and kept a similar design for each card.  When stamping multiple images, it just takes a little more extra time to color those additional images.  Setting things up assembly style, is also very helpful.

I'm using watercolor pencils on all my images today and you'll find links to most of the products that I used at the end of this post.

For my "pink" card, you can see the swatch that I created below, to choose my colors.  I ended up choosing #1 for the darker shading and #3 to blend out my colors.  All of my images were stamped on Canson mixed media paper using my Misti and hybrid ink in a leather color, which affords a softer look and better blending for a no-line coloring effect on my Gingerbread houses.

I also used a fun technique for coloring; grabbing color directly from the watercolor pencil with a waterbrush.  You'll want to have paper towels handy, to blot for a light effect.  If you'd like to see a quick two minute video that I shared on my Facebook account showing the process, click here.  I hope you'll follow me while you're there too!

One of my favorite tools for embellishing is a white gel pen.  I use it on almost all my projects in one form or another.  As you can see in the photo below, I did a lot of embellishing on my images.  Not only to accent the design but to create a little snow effect, as well.

Let me also mention that I used A2 size Neenah scored cards and trimmed my Whimsy Stamps
Cozy Winter paper pack to cover the entire front for my scenes.  I also created 3 separate stitched die pieces for each card, to create a layered, snowy hillside.  Whimsy Stamps has a lovely set for you to add to your collection, the Stitched Border Die Trio. My lighting is very bright but you can see the layering best on my "pink" card if you zoom in.  Some of my layers are popped up with adhesive foam circles, as are the sentiments, some of the houses and some of the trees.

A touch of stenciling was also added on two of my cards for a cobblestone effect, in front of the doorway on the lower houses.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I also used the Tweetie Pie clear stamp set.  The thank you sentiment was the perfect compliment to complete my themed cards.

Thanks again to Whimsy Stamps for allowing me to share with you today.  If you have any questions that I haven't answered, please leave them in the comment section and I will do my best to respond.
Stay crafty my friends!  Terri
