Party Tags for Catherine Pooler Snowrific Release

Eeeek, I'm so excited! The Catherine Pooler Snow-rific Birthday release is live for the entire blogosphere! Party time! This release has so many amazing products that fill that winter gap but also new birthday things that you're going to want in your craft space. I have a pair of party tags to share with you today, so I hope you'll stick around for a minute. Do you typically purchase bundles or just a few things that catch your eye? You might want to spring for the whole thing this time, I'm just sayin'. It's time to treat yourself! Look at all the fun you will have!

I had SOOOO much fun making these tags. I had so many ideas popping and just threw lots of things in the mix. I'm heavily relying on the Party Tag die set for these tags. That small die with all the holes? It makes confetti! Not only that, but I saw Daniel West make a card where he used it to cut a couple rows of holes on his card panel and it looked very cool.

The tag die above breaks off into several pieces; a tag frame, a rectangle frame and a scalloped frame, all of which can be used separately or together.

For my tag below, I used papers from the Daily Grind paper pack. It's one of my faves and that dotted paper reminded me of confetti. I cut my paper with the tag base die then embossed a cut using the rectangle frame, ink blending it lightly before embossing. 

For my cupcake, I used the Extra Frosting stamp and die set using a variety of inks which will all be listed at the end of this post. I ink blended around my cupcake liner for more of a shadow effect. All of these elements were popped up on my tag base with adhesive foam.

Next, I made a shaker tag. I die cut 1 tag base with white cardstock and 1 tag base with a piece of acetate. I lined up my tag base and added the scalloped frame in the center to die cut 2 more things that would leave the center exposed; white cardstock and a piece of adhesive foam sheet.

I stamped my sentiment on the first white tag base that I cut, using masking tape for the ink colored word "favorite". Then I layered the cut adhesive sheet on top, peeling the backing off the back side and adhering to my white base. Make some confetti cuts with the confetti die but not too much (I did add too much!) otherwise, it can get too packed and won't distribute as well when shaking. Once you've centered your confetti in the middle, adhere your acrylic cut. Lastly, carefully apply adhesive to your final  piece, the scalloped white tag.

IMPORTANT: Do not use glue on your adhesive sheet. It will work better to use an adhesive runner or double sided adhesive strips. 

I colored up a cupcake but trimmed the cupcake liner to look more like a bon-bon at the base of my tag. I think it's so cute!

Guest Designer - Coming Soon to Catherine Pooler

Hello friends! This month I'm guest designing for Catherine Pooler Designs and I couldn't be more thrilled. The Snow-rific release drops on Oct. 12th and is full of fun, winter elements as well as the birthday bundle that I'm creating with today.  Scroll down for creative details on this card. To create my striped background for my A2 card, I masked off about 1/4 -1/2 inch edge from my white card panel and stamped using the Wonky Stripes background stamp with my Misti stamp positioner. This stamp is HUGE and can be used in so many different ways.

I thought I would be clever and add some black lines to my stripes, but I just wan't feeling it. You know how that is, right? I wasn't sure I liked the black lines but I couldn't just couldn't bring myself to discard it so instead, I used the star dies from the Party Tag die set that's included in the new release to make some star embellishments to add to my card. Problem solved! I think they're so pretty too. I also die cut some stars with patterned paper from the Happy Mama paper pack since the colors worked for my project.

My cupcake was created using the Extra Frosting stamp and die set and I popped up a dimensional sentiment with the Party tag die and a quote from the Everybody Say Happy Sentiments stamp set. A little masking with tape on the word "extra" was used to ink my colored word. 

The inks used were: 

Cupcake (Macchiato, Cranberry Fizz, Sand Castle, Oh Boy)

Stripes (Serenade, Oh Boy, Catching Rays, Pucker Up)

Sentiment (Midnight, Oh Boy, Serenadee)

Woodgrain Pumpkin Slimline Card

Hey friends, today I've got a fun technique that I don't use often but I really should. Stamping over stencils. It yields such cool results and is so fun to do. This project for Scrapbook.com features the Pumpkin Patch stencil and Hi Fall stamp set, both new in the shop.  Scroll down for creative details. The dimensions of my card are close to the traditional size of a slimline card, measuring in at 4x8 inches, edge to edge. I trimmed my kraft cardstock to fit, then trimmed my white panel to fit.

I sprayed the back of my stencil with Thermoweb Pixie Spray then masked around 2 rows of pumpkins and centered the stencil on top of my white panel. Yes, my stencil is covered in some adhesive and glitter and needs a good cleaning, haha! Even though I had tape on my stencil, I used the spray for a better seal and to prevent any of the gloss spray that I used (further down this post) to seep underneath the stencil. The Pixie Spray is currently out of stock but click the link if you'd like to be notified when it's back in stock. It's a must have staple in my craft room.

 

Next, I used my Scrapbookcom hybrid ink in Leather to ink blend lightly inside my pumpkins. Once this is done, LEAVE YOUR STENCIL IN PLACE! You're going to stamp right on top of your ink blended pumpkins with a woodgrain background stamp. No need for a stamp positioner, just ink up the cling stamp and press directly onto your pumpkins, If it's a large background stamp, like mine, you may need to mask some of your area to stamp 2 different sections evenly. You can also use a small woodgrain stamp and acrylic block to stamp individual pumpkins.

I should mention, the background stamp I'm using today is no longer available but I've linked a very similar woodgrain stamp at the end of this post.

Continue to leave your masking and stencil in place for this next step. We're going to jazz up the pumpkins with some Dina Wakley Gloss Spray. I love that it dries fairly quickly and adds such pretty color, shine and dimension.

I generally unscrew my bottle top and simply tap the gloss all around with the end of the spritzer tube. It allows me a little more control this way and I don't over saturate my area.

Now, it's time for the magic. Peel off your stencil and masking tape.

Isn't it gorgeous? I decided to go in and ink blend a few pumpkin "shadows" but this was easily done without masking. I also used the 2nd stencil that comes in the set to blend in some bubbles and stars. My sentiment was stamped with gradient color, stamping half my sentiment with Leather ink and the other half with Catherine Pooler Eucalyptus ink, to tie in all my colors together. I fussy cut it and backed it with a matching trimmed kraft cardstock.

Glue a few sequins for sparkle and call it a day!
