Nutcracker Christmas for Catherine Pooler

Today is the day! The new Holiday Magic release from Catherine Pooler is live in the shop ! For my card today, I'm creating with products from the Nutcracker Sweet Bundle which includes stamps, dies, patterned paper, a background stamp and sequin mix.

If you saw my last post featuring these products, then you saw the photo below where I stamped, die cut and colored lots of nutcrackers with my OLO markers. For each of the 3 nutcrackers, I colored each grouping the same, with an assembly line format for quicker coloring. So, each of the images with a crown on top were colored the same, each Nutcracker with the lollipop the same, etc. 

I also tried to stay with the same color scheme overall, picking colors that would coordinate with my patterned paper.

My card today was created to appear as if the nutcrackers are lined up on a shelf, or perhaps inside a decorative hutch, serving as decoration for Christmas. Nutcrackers hold a special place in my heart, as you will see in my next paragraph.

In my last post, I also promised a short story time for my inspiration behind these nutcrackers. My mom used to go all out for Christmas. Every room was decorated. My parents spent several years in Germany while stationed in the Army and brought even more nutcrackers home. About 4 years ago my mom passed after a stroke and Christmas just isn't the same without her. We've all adjusted though and still make time to get together for the holidays. I will say this....my dad does NOT miss dragging all the boxes and boxes of stuff out for my mom to decorate with, haha!

Next, let me share some other details for this card. For my border, I swiped some of my CP inks on cardstock - Macchiato and Deck the Halls. I trimmed strips from the inked cardstock, pairing them with a strip of patterned paper for my decorative border, as pictured above. 

I also stamped my sentiment, using the mask technique, stamping the top line in CP Midnight ink, and the bottom line with CP Deck The Halls and Rockin' Red ink. This works best when used with a stamp positioner.

I wanted to embellish my sentiment strip so I decided to stamp some of the holly leaves from the Nutcracker Sweet stamp set and do some water coloring. Again, I used the Deck the Halls and Rockin' Red ink, then die cut with the coordinating dies.  

To watercolor, just press your ink pad onto a craft mat, spritz with a little water, then use a waterbrush or wet paint brush to grab the inky mixture and start painting.

All of my die cut images are popped up on adhesive foam strips, and lastly, I randomly glued some sequins from the Reykjavik Sequin Mix onto my card.
