Hey friends. I'm back with another card for Catherine Pooler Designs that features the new Trail Mix collection. It's been a long time since I camped at a beach, but that is exactly what inspired today's card. I have a friend who camps at the beach often, even going so far as to park directly on the beach (which typically is a no-no)! I'll have my clickable supply list at the end of this post if you'd like to browse or shop. But first, let me share some techniques that I applied to my card.
(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)
My card dimensions are 5x5 inches. I started by placing a strip of masking tape across my card panel to swipe ink colors for my sea.
I began swiping right to left directly near the bottom with Pistachio ink, then above that with Uptown ink, and lastly above that, Mardi Gras ink.
Next, I added water splatters, quickly heat set it, then added white paint splatters on the sea.
For my sandy beach area, I swiped Cashmere ink across the bottom of white cardstock, then added Amber ink splatters.
I also tore the paper at a slight angle.
I wanted to try something different for my camper by adding some raised siding with the new Getaway ink. I swiped my ink on white cardstock, then used the CPD Simple Strips die to die cut the inked cardstock.
After die cutting, and I left the strips in place on my die and adhered a trimmed adhesive sheet, rubbing it in really good.
Next, I carefully removed my adhered die cuts, placed them in my stamp positioner and stamped over the strips with my camper stamp and CPD Black Jack ink.
Then, it was simply a matter of using my scissors to hand trim the portion that I wanted to use for my camper siding. This was really fun to do, by the way! I love doing paper piecing projects.
I also added some extra touches to my camper, a paper pieced outer curtain, then watercoloring the rest of my camper with Urban, Getaway, Catching Rays, and Black Jack ink.
For my camper chairs, there is only one stamp/die in the Happy Trail-ers set. So, I set out to do some reverse stamping and die cutting. Yes, this is a thing! I've done reverse stamping before, but have never done reverse die cutting. I wasn't even sure it was possible, so I experimented. My first idea worked. Unfortunately, I didn't get any photos because it would require the use of a 3rd hand, haha!
I can however, explain what I did. First, let me talk about the reverse stamping. I have a rubber grip mat that sits in my Misti stamp positioner. I stamped the chair with Uptown ink directly onto my grip mat twice, then carefully placed a piece of white card stock on top and rubbed over the top of the cardstock with my fingers.
I think I got a pretty good reverse image, what do you think?
I then took my die, placed it behind the reverse stamped image cut side up, held it up to the light where I could see slightly through the cardstock to line it up, then placed some low tack tape across the back of the die.
So, die cut facing up, inked image on top with ink facing up, and the tape on bottom, holding the die and reverse image in place. This is how I die cut the reverse image. If there's any interest in seeing this done, maybe I can do some kind of short reel, let me know. I used 80 lb cardstock. Anything thicker, and I'm not sure I would have been able to see through the cardstock in the light. There may be an easier way to reverse die cut, I just haven't researched it. I like to go rogue, haha!
Lastly, I did some ink blending across the top of my card panel with Urban ink, stamping my sentiment from the Happy Trail-ers stamp set with the same ink, then heat embossed with Wow clear embossing powder. I also added some die cut clouds from the Smile Bright die set, ink blending with Mardi Gras ink and adding some water splatters.
Do you have a special camping memory? I would love to hear about it, camping was such a special time in my childhood. Tell me about it in the comments! Thanks so much for stopping by, have a fabulous week!
Terri
