Rainbow Christmas Caffeinated Card Challenge

Hello friends. As a brew crew member at Coffee Loving Cardmakers, I thought it was high time I join one of the challenges at their new challenge site, Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge.

The theme is Coffee + Rainbow. I chose to use rainbow colors for my card. This is a pop up card that folds for mailing and is so easy to create. Scroll down for the brief tutorial and creative details. I'll have links to the products that I used at the end of this post as well.

I started by stamping and watercoloring my images on Canson mixed media paper which you can usually find at Walmart. The stamped images are from the new Colorado Craft Company stamp set, Teacups & Mice, designed by their newest illustrator, Kris Lauren. Aren't they the cutest? I call my mouse "Grungy cute" and I think the petal, leafy teacup is dreamy and ethereal. Such a great design!

 

The watercolor set that I used is from Altenew. I've had it for ages and it seems to last forever! It's the 36 pan set. I colored with my water brush, choosing rainbow colors, and blended some of the colors as I painted..

To incorporate the Christmas element, I used my Scrapbookcom Tree Nesting Dies with Neenah cardstock to make a tree shaped card. Just fold an 8.5x11 piece of cardstock and offset the die at the top. Run through your die cut machine. I love these nesting dies so much. They're currently out of stock as of this writing but if you ever catch them on sale at Scrapbookcom, you won't regret it. I scored both of the tree trunk "tabs" at the edge and center. Below, you can see how I folded them and adhered them with my adhesive runner. This allows you to pop up your card for display and also fold for mailing.

Once I created my tree card base, I then cut two nesting panels, one to cover my tree and the other as a layered dimension element. This paper is from the retired Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid collection that included Lollipop and Rainbow papers. However, I found a similar paper included in my supply list at the end of this post that would work as well.

I cut my images using my Brother Scan n Cut machine, however Colorado Craft Co also makes an accompanying die set that actually cuts out the inside of the cup handle.

Lastly, my sentiment is from a retired set from StudioL2E. They make planner stamps and I have some older stamps from their holiday collection. This sentiment just seemed to fit so perfectly, as it's a line from the song, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". I colored the little heart center with Copic markers to coordinate with my colors. All of my elements were popped up with adhesive foam circles from Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L.

Beachy Unicorn Card

Hey crafty friends! I'm feeling the summer vibes with the new release from Pink & Main!

This card features the Beach Unicorn stamp set, among other lovely products from P & M. But seriously, floating unicorns? Yes, please! Scroll down for a few creative details and I'll have convenient affiliate product links available at the end of this post.

First, I used a mirror image stamp technique where you do some reverse image stamping.  It's super easy and requires a big 'ole piece of rubber for this (see product links at the end of this post).  It fits nicely inside the mini Misti stamp positioner.  You simply stamp your image onto the rubber two or three times to get a good inking which is why you should use a stamp positioner. Then, gently press and rub your cardstock (for coloring images) into the ink.  It's not a perfect science but I usually touch up any areas that I need to with a fine tip black Copic pen.

I used a variety of Copic Markers to color my palm trees and unicorn, and accented with a white gel pen.  As you can see, I decided to cut up my colored unicorn image and have her floating in the waves.  It's ok to chop up your paper! 

For my background, I used a pretty orange/pink paper from my paper pad, then inked up some clouds with my stencil.  If you use the stencil edges, you can flip them upside for waves! Don't you love a product that has duality?  I know I do.

I've nicknamed my unicorn Prissy and Prissy needs a beach towel to dry off. Here's a neat trick. Score some lines on your cardstock, then rub over them with a cardboard nail file.  I thought it gave a super cool "sand" effect. You can't hit the beach without getting sand all over your towel! To finish off my card, I added Nuvo drops in my clouds and on my beach, and hand drew some little star fish that I fussy cut and embellished.
