Foiling on Patterned Paper with Spellbinders Club Kits

Hey friends, I'm taking on some new projects for Spellbinders this year. I'll be bringing you inspiration with the Glimmer of the Month and the Clear Stamp & Coordinating Die Set of the Month Club selections. Today's card actually features both! Scroll down for details. Today, I want to share how impactful foiling can be over some pretty patterned paper. It's a real time saver as well and I know many of you love making quick cards. Even better, when there's a wow factor, right?

Included in this months Glimmer Hot Foil Kit Club is the Elliptical Weaver Glimmer Hot Foil plate set, and the Aura hot foil which is my favorite! I'm so glad to have another roll because I was getting low, haha. This foil shimmers and reflects different colors when you turn from side to side. It's gorgeous!

I have the Spellbinders Woodland Tales 6x6 inch paper pack in my stash and there is the most gorgeous red paper with gold foiled flecks on it. I thought it would be a good choice to pair with my Glimmer plate and Aura foil.

After I foiled on my patterned paper, I also pulled some cardstock from my stash in a similar color and embossed it with the same Glimmer hot foil plate and my Platinum 6. One of the things I love about my Platinum 6 is that it lists all the different sandwich combinations on the base plate, including embossing with a cut plate. I treated this emboss just like a cut plate.

It doesn't give a real deep impression but it's enough for what I wanted to do next - hand trim the center shape for my heat embossed sentiment, as pictured below.

Before trimming out that center with my scissors, I went ahead and stamped my sentiment from this months Clear Stamp/Die Club selection, which is called Nature's Dance. It has several quotes that you can pair with floral cards, butterfly cards and more. It also includes something for birthdays, thank you cards, and other sentiments. 

I needed some post holiday thank you cards so this was perfect. I stamped it with my Misti stamp positioner using clear emboss ink and Wow embossing powder in Polished Gold, with my Ranger Craft Heat Tool.

My sentiment was popped up on adhesive foam strips and I also added some Spellbinders Onyx cardstock for a backdrop to my foiled card panel on a white A2 size card.

Thankful Card featuring Spellbinders

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm sharing one more "Thankful" themed card for Spellbinders and this one features products from the Woodland Tales collection that was released in October. I'm keeping this brief today, thanks to a nasty cold that is trying to sideline me! I mustered all my energy to cook a Thanksgiving meal for my little family but my energy is quickly waning, haha!

I have fallen so in love with the vellum overlays in this collection. They're stunningly gorgeous and all you have to do is trim and adhere.

I also wanted to find some items to fit within my "thankful" theme and I'm happy to have found a pretty mason jar and sentiment that came from the Woodland Tales Die Cut Shapes and also the die cut sentiments set. 

I just sent a mason jar full of homemade gravy over to my dad's house today, with other Thanksgiving trimmings! Alas, I'm sick and didn't want to expose him. He's 84 years old but in pretty good health. Yet another thing to be thankful for. I also made an extra egg custard pie that he could have all to himself, it's his favorite. I'm such a good daughter, haha!

Next, I adhered some of those gorgeous satin gold sequins from the collection, along with the Woodland Tales Gold Flecked Gems. I am absolutely smitten with these embellishments! 

Lastly, both of my die cuts are popped up with adhesive foam strips for visual appeal. And don't you just love the gold foiled accents on my die cuts? I love that Spellbinders thinks of the tiniest, special details.

Fall Inspiration Instagram Hop

I'm excited to join a special Instagram hop today, organized by my super talented friend Bobbie Sue McConathy. All the designers on this hop have created Fall inspired cards and if you haven't heard me say this before, Fall is my favorite season of the year! I used a lot of techniques for my card: dry embossing, stamping, ink smooshing and die cutting. The stamp set is from Catherine Pooler's Inside Out Gratitude Sentiments. 

In addition, I used my Spellbinders Hexi-Gem dies with my Platinum 6 die cut machine, to create a layered frame for my stamped sentiment. 

I chose lots of neutral colors to pair with my black gingham paper, pulled from one of my Echo Park Paper scrapbook collections called Little Ladybug.

I thought it might be fun to pull the plaid into my sentiment as well, and had the idea to trim a piece of my gingham paper, then trim off two corners and offset them at the top and bottom of my hexagon shape.  It really helped to create a lovely boundary for my sentiment. I can see myself creating lots of these framed designs as focal pieces for my cards in the future. I love the look!

For my leaves, I did some ink smooshing with Ranger Ink using these colors:

Distress Carved Pumpkin

Distress Kitsch Flamingo

Distress Oxide Vintage Photo

Distress Oxide Wild Honey

 + Jack O'Lantern Distress Mica Stain (splattered)

If you've never tried ink smooshing, it's a lot of fun! You need a craft mat, a water spritzer, ink and a craft heat tool. Just press your ink pads onto the craft mat (one color at a time), spritz with a little water, then dab your white cardstock randomly into the mix. Only ink smoosh one color at a time, then heat set, then the next color and so on.

Once I was done ink smooshing and drying my other colors, I unscrewed my Ranger Mica Stain and tapped the tube feeder to sprinkle droplets all around my inked cardstock. It leaves a dark orange reddish hue that has lots of shimmer and shine.

OK, CONFESSION TIME!!! You know, sometimes as crafters/cardmakers, we have to make lemons out of lemonade, right? Well I went to visit my dad on a Saturday, took some of my supplies to make these leaves while I was there because I knew he'd take a nap and then I would be bored, haha.

So, I start ink smooshing and lo and behold I left my heat tool at home. What's a girl to do? Hmmmm.....I wonder if I could dry these in the microwave. I guess you can see where this is going. I did however, use a heavyweight mixed media cardstock for my leaves, so I don't know if this would work as well for lightweight cardstock. I wouldn't want you to set the microwave on fire. I placed my inky cardstock in the microwave and did 5 second increments. After a total of 10 seconds, it was mostly dry. There were a few tiny spots that I just blotted with a paper towel and then I proceeded on to ink smoosh the next color and repeat the microwaving.

I can't believe I microwaved my inky card panel, but there you have it folks. Lemons out of lemonade!

Next, I used a leaf die from one of my Sizzix/49 and Market stamp/die sets to cut the leaves from my ink smooshed card panel. I also cut some leaves on black cardstock and used it as staggered backing for a shadow effect. They're popped up an adhesive foam strips as well. My backdrop is a tan colored paper from one of my Scrapbookcom Christmas paper pads, embossed with my Spellbinders Circle Illusion 3D embossing folder for more visual appeal. 

Lastly, I glued some embellishments from a Picket Fence Studio Halloween Sequin Mix. This is an A2 sized vertical card, so some of my papers were trimmed to fit and layer within those dimensions.
