Ocean Waves Card for Catherine Pooler Designs

Happy Friday friends! It's the kickoff to the weekend and I am typically giddy on Fridays! I'm bringing you another project for Catherine Pooler Designs, featuring products from the Ocean Wonders collection. I'm also reaching into my stash, using other CPD products today too. I know we all love to use our stash more, right?

But, today's card is mostly about the Oceans Wonders Patterned Paper. I adore patterned paper and today's project is guaranteed to have you whipping out a card in 15 minutes or so, depending on how fast or slow you move, haha!

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

This was such a fun card to make. I love making beach cards and if it involves ripping paper,
even better! Feeling anxious or stressed? Rip some paper!

First, I tore 4 different papers from the Ocean Wonders patterned paper pack. I also picked out some cardstock from my Spa Mix Assorted Cardstock. It's called Tranquil and is such a soft, pretty blue.

I trimmed some of the Tranquil cardstock, adhering my ripped papers to it. I lined up the largest scalloped die from the CPD Dots & Scallops die set and ran it through my Platinum 6 die cut machine.

Because of the way I adhered my ripped papers to the cardstock, it was thicker at the bottom, so I had to rotate and run through my Platinum 6 a couple times to get a good cut.

Next, I heat embossed my sentiment from the Beautiful Seas Sentiments stamp set. I stamped with my Cargo ink twice, using my stamp positioner, then applied Wow Embossing fine clear embossing powder, tapping off the excess before heat setting it.

I mentioned previously here on my blog that I accidentally poured some of my excess Wow Halo embossing glitter into the wrong jar. My clear embossing powder was the wrong jar, haha! So yes, it has a mix of clear and glitter embossing powder. Can you see the sparkle? Kind of a happy accident!

I wanted to keep my embellishing minimal because of all the busyness of the patterned paper. So, I grabbed some burlap string from my stash for embellishing, creating a bow as well.

I used my heat gun to glue down the bow, and also to glue down my enamel dot in the center of the bow. Since it's not a flat surface, there's no way that enamel dot would stay put. It's ok to use your enamel dots, however the situation fits! It's called being "creative"!

For the backing to my card panel, I wanted a dark neutral color. I grabbed a sheet of my CPD Over Coffee cardstock and die cut with the largest dotted rectangle die from the Dots & Scallops die set.

That Dots & Scallops die set got a good workout for this project today!

I must say, I absolutely love all my CPD products. I especially love the new cardstocks. I highly advice you to get some if you haven't already. The Over Coffee cardstock is going to be used a LOT as well, especially for Fall and Winter projects.

And here I am, using that brown cardstock on a summer beach card. It works though because it's a neutral and I feel like it helps my summer scene to pop even more!

What do you think about my color pairings today? Would you or do you use brown cardstock year round? I'd love to know. Thanks so much for stopping by. If you like more product information on any of the supplies I used today or wish to shop, just tap my clickable affiliate links below, provided at no additional cost to you.

Have a fantastic weekend. See you next time!

Ocean Wonders Cards For Catherine Pooler Designs

I'm so happy to be sharing a pair of cards featuring today's new Ocean Wonders collection that is now live at Catherine Pooler Designs. There's also a new ink release! I've got all the details below, along with a clickable shopping supply list at the end of this post.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

Both of my cards feature the Beach Treasures Bundle along with lots of ink!
I do love my CP ink so much.

There's also a new ink in town and it's called Oyster! It's featured on both of my cards as well, and you guys are going to love this ink!

Now, for my first card, I started by die cutting the Under The Sea Cover Plate die with white cardstock and my die cut machine. This is included in the bundle, but can also be purchased separately.

I set it aside and proceeded to ink up the white cardstock that would be the backing to my cover plate die cut.

Here's the breakdown for the ink pad colors and technique used:

Oyster - swiped
Gingerbread - swiped
On The Lake - ink blended
Mardi Gras - ink blended
Oh Boy - ink blended

Those were my colors, working my way from the bottom up.

Next, I added water splatters to my inked card panel by spritzing water into my hand and flinging my wet fingers at the paper. It's a fun technique for sure! I also used my craft heat tool to quick dry.

Next, I grabbed my die cut and decided to ink up only the coral and sea weed. You can really do whatever you want. I didn't have a plan, I just went with it.

I started by ink blending my sea weed with Mardi Gras ink, then decided to apply some Lime Rickey Shimmer on top with a water brush.

That led me to do some water coloring on the coral, and make it multi-colored. I mean, why not? It's the "Year of Color" all year long at CPD!

Here's the breakdown of shimmer/ink refills used on the coral with a water brush:

Oyster - ink refill
Uptown - ink refill
Orange Twist Shimmer
Lime Rickey Shimmer

I actually water colored the entire coral with the Oyster ink first, then added bits of the other colors listed above.

I decided I wanted to incorporate more of the new Oyster ink into my project, so I used the color as the background for my inked sentiment, swiping it on cardstock.

I also used the mask technique for my sentiment, stamping with Black Jack and Mardi Gras ink.

The CPD enamel dots are a new product this year and I have had the best time with them. The cover plate also has a lot of bubble "circles" that are cut out when run through your die cut system. Everywhere that you see an enamel dot simply covers the bubble cut outs. And again....why not? Hey, get creative and do whatever inspires you!

Lastly, I also used CPD white cardstock and this gorgeous deep blue cardstock as the backing for my card panel. It's from the Party Mix Cardstock Assortment.

Now, this card was shared last weekend as a sneak peek. The techniques were simple and I don't have any additional photos of the making of the card, but I can quickly tell you what I did.

First, I die cut the sea shells from the Beachcomber dies (included in my bundle) using white cardstock, then ink blended with Oyster Ink. The die cut backings were die cut with CPD Over Coffee Cardstock.

Next, I used the Around the Loop Nested Dies (the largest one) to create a shaped card. This is achieved  by placing your die just above the score line of a top folded card, leaving a slight gap before running through your die cut machine. I then created another die cut with the same die for my card panel, which would be adhered on top of my card.

I used masking tape across my card panel, to ink 3 sections:

Sand, sea and sky

Here's the breakdown of the inks I used:

Oyster - Sand (swiped)
Spiced - Sand (splattered)
On The Lake, Oh Boy - Sea (ink blended)
Orange Twist, Sweetheart, Pucker Up - Sky (ink blended)

My sentiment was stamped using On The Lake and Also Pucker Up, but the two colors mixed a little bit and I ended up with some purple, haha. I don't mind though!

My sea and sky were also splattered with white paint .

I also decided to get inky on the inside of my card. I stamped my sentiment with the same inks and swiped Oyster Ink across the bottom for my sand. Then I splattered some more Spiced ink. Make sure you cover up the remaining section of your card before splattering, so you don't make a mess!

I certainly enjoyed making these cards. Beachy cards are some of my favorites! If you'd like to do some shopping, I've provided convenient affiliate links below, at no additional cost to you. If you spend over $50.00, be sure to use coupon code OCEAN at checkout, to receive the free Spe-Shell Friend stamp set!

Have a great week, see you next time!
