Happy News! Joining the Paper House Productions Design Team!

I am ecstatic to announce that I'm joining the Paper House Productions Design Team in July!  You won't believe this, but it was literally a goal of mine to join a scrapbook paper design team this year.  Paper is my first love.  That's where it all started for me, all those years ago when my friend Nancy Hilton took me to my first crop (look Nancy, you got a shout out!).  Ah, the joys of taking scissors to paper.  Before I knew it, I fell in love with cardmaking and paper continued to reign in my life.   I became an avid stamper and joined several stamp design teams, however, paper was always there; a staple in almost every project. 

Paper House Productions stood out in my mind for another reason.  I'm pretty sure I met them back in 2014 when I was the guest blogger for the CHA/AFCI Paper Arts Trade show in Atlanta.  I did a little digging and yes.... I did meet them!  In fact, I wrote a segment all about the lovely folks at PHP on the Craft and Hobby Association blog.  Take a look!

I have a love affair with paper and am so happy that Paper House Productions chose me to represent their wonderful array of products.  They have selected a stellar team and I'm even more excited that I already know several of the ladies, having worked with them on other design teams.  It already feels like a family atmosphere which is like the icing on the cake!

I thought I would share a couple projects that I made not too long ago, using Paper House Productions papers.  Here's my milk carton treat box, filled with k-cups for a project I did last year for Coffee Loving Cardmakers.

Their product line is EXTENSIVE!  They have license to the Wizard of Oz line.  Um, my baby shower was Wizard of Oz themed.  My little niece dressed up like Dorothy and my nephews dressed like the Lollipop Guild.  My sister gave me a huge piece of Wall Art that was Wizard of Oz and drove 2 hours to Atlanta to meet one of the original munchkins who was on tour and doing a book signing.  I believe he was the Mayor of Munchkin Land.  He autographed the art and my sister had it framed.  It is one of my most prized possessions.  I'm a huge Wizard of Oz fan!  It feels a little bit like destiny to have the joy of creating with their products on a regular basis.

2014 Halloween Popcorn Box Blog Hop

Welcome to the 2014 Halloween Popcorn Box Blog Hop Party, hosted by Laura Kelly Designs.   Around 30 participants were invited to take an ordinary cardboard popcorn box, provided by Laura Kelly, and make it their own.

But first, let me tell you how I made this Bubbling Brew box and my tribute to the Wizard of Oz!

If you know me, or delve further into my blog archives, then you know I'm a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan.  I knew exactly what I wanted to do;  a spin on the Wicked Witch.  Check out my tutorial below which includes the foaming brew and making your own colored glitter mesh filler:

Ingredients for this Bubbling Brew box:  1 popcorn box, Laura Kelly Design buttons (Buttons Galore), 4-5 feet of white mesh ribbon (May Arts), Black/white twine (May Arts Ribbon), DCWV Amber Autumn Stack 12x12 paper, October Afternoon Sprinklers Witches Brew paint misting spray, Wow Iridescent Key Lime glitter powder, Adhesive runner (Tombow Xtreme), Heat tool for crafting (The Paper Studio), Unity Stamp Co Halloween Chatter kit (witch hat/sentiment), Versamark clear watermark ink, Black embossing powder (Ranger), Adhesive glitter tape (American Crafts, medium Glue Dots, Scotch foam dots

Optional to embellish cauldron:
Tulip Beads in a Bottle fabric paint in gold
Marvy snow marker

1.  Create a template of one side of the box and make a duplicate sheet.  Adhere to the box with tape runner.

2.  Add a few spots of adhesive on the ouside of the papered box.  Wrap the mesh ribbon all around the box, about 4 times in a random criss-cross pattern, making sure it sticks to the adhesive in places.   Cut and tuck strip on backside of box.

3.  The fun part?  Melting!  How can we have a wicked witch without some melting going on?  Take your heat tool and use a side to side motion over different sections until the mesh starts to melt (burn).  Be careful!  You don't want to overheat and set your crafty domain on fire. 

4.  Adhere swirly twine circles.  These were formed on the medium glue dots. Lollipop Guild!  Another ode to the Wizard of Oz!

5.  Adhere embossed witch hat and stamped sentiment with foam dots.

6.  The cauldron: this was super fun to make.  This image was fussy cut from the same DCWV stack.  Embellishing is optional but here's what I did:

Run a snow marker where you want "foam".  Before the heat process, I added a touch of October Afternoon Sprinklers Witch Hazel droplets over the snow marker ink.  Take the heat tool and dry in a side to side motion.  Once it starts drying, it will then begin to foam.  I heated it a bit longer to get a nice burned look.  Add the Tulip Beads in a Bottle fabric paint in gold.  This stuff dries amazingly quick!  I love the texture and dimension of my bubbling witches brew.  Don't you?

7.  Make homemade green glitter mesh filler: Take a plastic zippy bag and add several spritzes of the same October Afternoon paint and mist some water as well.  Add about 2-3 feet of the white mesh ribbon in the bag and work all of it together by squishing outside of sealed bag.  Add a little more paint and water as need to get desired color.  Lay the damp ribbon on craft mat, sprinkle with glitter, and let dry overnight.

The Quest for Cha, Part 8....Welcome to Oz!

(To follow the entire saga, view my blog archives...this is my Quest to get into the Craft and Hobby association trade show in Atlanta)

Today, boys and girls, I have in my hot little hands, the vendor list for CHA.  I also have the floor plans.  According to this map, I will either be sandwiched inbetween Anna Griffin and Petaloo International....or by the exit door.  Me thinks it will most likely be the exit door, ha ha.  I really don't care where they park me.  I liken this chapter of my life to Dorothy being plucked right out of Kansas, to a whirlwind ride landing her smack in the middle of Oz.  Munchkinland.  Emerald City. 

Another thing you don't know about me; I'm a huge Wizard of Oz fan.  I've got the dolls, the trinket toys, the Special Anniversary DVD collection (75th to be exact).  Even my baby shower was Oz themed with my little niece and nephews dressed as Dorothy and the Lollipop Guild.  A friend even made blue/plaid curtains for my son's nursery.  Ok, maybe that was taking it a bit far....but I did love the curtains!!

 



For my birthday one year or maybe it was Christmas, my darling sister Judi (who is always trying to one-up me on gift giving) traveled two and a half hours to Atlanta to meet actor Mickey Carroll who was on an Oz tour  (he played the munchkin town crier and fiddler).  She had him autograph this huge poster for me, dedicating it to me and my son, then had it framed.  Yup, she held the title, "Reigning Queen of Gift Giving",  for a long time after that.  I took the crown back a few years later though.

So back to CHA.  Because that's what it's really all about.  Sure this is my Quest, but I'm sharing it with a wonderful organization that decided to take a chance on me and swim in uncharted waters too.   I hope this will be a wonderful experience for both of us.  Looking at my calendar, I've got just 12 days to finalize my plans.  I've been doing the research, visiting sponsor blogs, familiarizing myself with some of the vendor attendees, realizing that "oh, I've been following her for years" or "I know that name!"  It's definitely a fun process, doing all this prep work.  I wouldn't even call it work!  I've already discovered via research that yes...I DO need that Stamper's Secret Weapon Pad!  Check out the video here 'cause you're going to want one too:  Sizzix and Stephanie Barnard Stamper's Secret Weapon.
