Nautical Encouragement for Two Paper Divas + Big Sale!

Today, I'm sharing another card that I've made with the Anchors the Soul stamp set.  This is such an encouraging sentiment for anyone who needs a little lift in their spirits.

To make this card, I stamped my anchor in Memento London Fog ink and dried it quickly with my heat embossing tool, then stamped my sentiment in Ranger Black archival ink and quickly sprinkled with clear embossing powder, tapped off the excess and heated with my embossing tool.  If you have problems with your stamped sentiments not standing out on your projects, give clear embossing powder a try.  It really makes it stand out and gives added dimension,

I like the look of my sentiment on top of the anchor too.  Using a neutral shade for the anchor is key and really, you don't need to do anything else to this pairing.

I wanted to accent my anchor theme so I broke out my pliers and cut a piece of chain to drape across my card, hot glued just under the backside of my frame, then hot glued my buttons from Laura Kelly Designs and Buttons Galore, to pull it all together.   My papers are from the DCWV Hey Sailor collection and the fishnet stenciling is from The Crafters Workshop, called "Nautical Chain".

3rd Annual Popcorn Blog Hop Party 2015 with Laura Kelly Designs

It's time for Laura Kelly Design's 3rd Annual Popcorn Blog Hop Party!  The objective is to take a plain old popcorn box and turn it into something festive and fun.  This year, there are 50+ craft bloggers who've been asked to create for this annual event. 

  We received product samples from some pretty awesome companies to create with and were allowed to add additional embellishments.There are several super nice prizes up for grabs.  Be sure to check out all the crafty inspiration, and enter the Rafflecopter giveaway link at the bottom of this post to be entered in the random prize drawing. 

My project is titled, "Ghouls Rule".  As luck would have it, Adornit is one of the sponsors and as many of you know, I LOVE Adornit!  I actually had a couple sheets of the blender paper sample that was sent, so I covered my entire box in the black polka dot paper.

The next sponsored product I worked with was the Kunin Felt.  I hand trimmed these cute little ghosts and adhered them with Alene's tacky glue.

 I was also sent some Scotch Washi tape in black and orange.  Notice those little signs that my spooks are holding?  I peeled off a 3" strip of orange and a 3" strip of black, then used my craft knife to divide my strips into thirds, lengthwise.  I overlapped one black strip and one orange strip.  Starting at the bottom of my trimmed wooden skewer, I wrapped the overlapped washi around my skewer.  It gave it kind of a swizzled look that I just love!  I repeated the wrap process with my remaining strips and skewers, then made little signs using the Adornit letter stickers that were sent.

When I finished, I unwrapped my Lollipic sucker, also a sponsor, and enjoyed my little treat!  Orange flavored and delicious!  The edible label is pretty cool too.

My popcorn recipe is very simple.  Pop your corn.  Add mini marshmallows, candy corn and/or peanuts.  Toss and enjoy!

Stranded Crafter Makes Card!

So, what do you do when you're dog-sitting for a week and don't have a craft room on wheels?  Well, first thing you do is make a quick trip home, if you don't live too far away (10 minutes) and grab some stuff.   Oddly enough, I'm at my mother's house.  I turned her to the dark side a couple years ago.  Yes, I dragged her kicking and screaming into my crafty world....guilty as charged.  Normally, I'd be able to work with some of her supplies.   Unfortunately, all her stuff is still boxed up from the last crop she went to. Ack!

I ran home and grabbed adhesive, stamps, ink, twine and and a bag that was still brimming from the last crop I went to.   My intent was to make a birthday card and use a stamp I recently received from Craftin' Desert Diva's.   I'll be using the Celebration WordArt today, found here:

I also plan to enter this card into a couple challenges listed below.  But first, the details.....

I used DCWV cardstock from the Blossoms and Butterflies stack including the flower die cuts which were cut from the stack, as well.   The balloons?  I hand-cut them from the same DCWV cardstock and embellished with my Laura Kelly Designs buttons from Buttons Galore and May Arts Ribbon pink natural burlap string.

I used my Tombow Dual Brush pens from the Bright Collection and directly inked onto the stamp.  Once stamped, I then re-traced with my pens for additional coloring.

Oh my golly goodness, I have discovered Gold Stickles glitter glue!  I am in love!  If you could see this card in person, the cupcake liner looks just like those gold liners you buy in the store.  I colored with my yellow Tombow pen, then added the Stickles.

Here is the crafter-math, on my mother's dining room table.  It's not too bad, is it?

2014 Halloween Popcorn Box Blog Hop

Welcome to the 2014 Halloween Popcorn Box Blog Hop Party, hosted by Laura Kelly Designs.   Around 30 participants were invited to take an ordinary cardboard popcorn box, provided by Laura Kelly, and make it their own.

But first, let me tell you how I made this Bubbling Brew box and my tribute to the Wizard of Oz!

If you know me, or delve further into my blog archives, then you know I'm a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan.  I knew exactly what I wanted to do;  a spin on the Wicked Witch.  Check out my tutorial below which includes the foaming brew and making your own colored glitter mesh filler:

Ingredients for this Bubbling Brew box:  1 popcorn box, Laura Kelly Design buttons (Buttons Galore), 4-5 feet of white mesh ribbon (May Arts), Black/white twine (May Arts Ribbon), DCWV Amber Autumn Stack 12x12 paper, October Afternoon Sprinklers Witches Brew paint misting spray, Wow Iridescent Key Lime glitter powder, Adhesive runner (Tombow Xtreme), Heat tool for crafting (The Paper Studio), Unity Stamp Co Halloween Chatter kit (witch hat/sentiment), Versamark clear watermark ink, Black embossing powder (Ranger), Adhesive glitter tape (American Crafts, medium Glue Dots, Scotch foam dots

Optional to embellish cauldron:
Tulip Beads in a Bottle fabric paint in gold
Marvy snow marker

1.  Create a template of one side of the box and make a duplicate sheet.  Adhere to the box with tape runner.

2.  Add a few spots of adhesive on the ouside of the papered box.  Wrap the mesh ribbon all around the box, about 4 times in a random criss-cross pattern, making sure it sticks to the adhesive in places.   Cut and tuck strip on backside of box.

3.  The fun part?  Melting!  How can we have a wicked witch without some melting going on?  Take your heat tool and use a side to side motion over different sections until the mesh starts to melt (burn).  Be careful!  You don't want to overheat and set your crafty domain on fire. 

4.  Adhere swirly twine circles.  These were formed on the medium glue dots. Lollipop Guild!  Another ode to the Wizard of Oz!

5.  Adhere embossed witch hat and stamped sentiment with foam dots.

6.  The cauldron: this was super fun to make.  This image was fussy cut from the same DCWV stack.  Embellishing is optional but here's what I did:

Run a snow marker where you want "foam".  Before the heat process, I added a touch of October Afternoon Sprinklers Witch Hazel droplets over the snow marker ink.  Take the heat tool and dry in a side to side motion.  Once it starts drying, it will then begin to foam.  I heated it a bit longer to get a nice burned look.  Add the Tulip Beads in a Bottle fabric paint in gold.  This stuff dries amazingly quick!  I love the texture and dimension of my bubbling witches brew.  Don't you?

7.  Make homemade green glitter mesh filler: Take a plastic zippy bag and add several spritzes of the same October Afternoon paint and mist some water as well.  Add about 2-3 feet of the white mesh ribbon in the bag and work all of it together by squishing outside of sealed bag.  Add a little more paint and water as need to get desired color.  Lay the damp ribbon on craft mat, sprinkle with glitter, and let dry overnight.
