Copic Sale Plus Botanical Summer Card

I've got a summery project today that features coloring with Copic markers.  As someone who is relatively new to coloring with Copics (going on 7 months), I thought I would share some of my observations about these markers.

Experts recommend that you color within a three or four color range for each color.  For example, if  I'm using Y11, the next logical colors for blending would be to use Y13 and Y15.  

As I am no expert, haha, I tend to do what I like.  I like mixing and matching, sometimes outside the range of a color group.  Admittedly, I'm still growing my collection so I usually can't afford to buy many colors at a time, as these are expensive alcohol artist markers.  I do try to catch them on sale though. As you can see from the pictures below, I've paired similar colors but not within the recommended 3-4 color group range.

I'm still learning and it's slow going, mainly due to time factors and having a very busy schedule outside the artistic world.  While learning from others and watching videos over the past few months, one thing that I've heard from many colorists as that they don't prefer to use the colorless blender.  It tends to remove color, rather than help to blend color.  I thought I would try using it for a few of the leaves above and I really love the achieved affect.  Keep in mind, your colors may come out heavy at first but will lighten a bit after drying.  I also recommend that you use 110 lb Neenah Solar White cardstock for any copic coloring.  This is the best cardstock for blending.

Now for a few key things to note about the products used, and I will have full links below, for everything I used, should you wish to add any of these items to your craft stash.  First, the stamps are called Botanical Borders and are from InkBlotShop.  I purchased these from Simon Says Stamp.  They currently have a rare 25% off copic marker sale going on now but this ends on June 26th, so don't wait.  Make sure to add MARKERSALE in the coupon code section at checkout.  I also accented my foliage with a Signo white gel pen and added some Nuvo glitter drops.

The Hello die was an exclusive die with Scrapbookcom and Pinkfresh studio but is not currently available. I used Neenah Solar White cardstock, along with DCWV papers to die cut this sentiment.  Lastly, the yellow gingham trim was from my Echo Park Paper Easter Wishes paper pad.  All my adhesives are from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

Ink Smooshed Encouragement Card Plus Sale and Freebie!

Hello crafty friends.  I wanted to share this card I made with an ink smooshing technique and also celebrate the kick off of the huge Scrapbook.com 7 day Sizzling Summer sale event.  I used 

Catherine Pooler Inks for this card.  Have you ever done smooshing?  It's a thing!  Simply press your ink onto a craft mat and lightly spritz with water.  Then, press water color paper or mixed media paper into your spritzed ink to create amazing backgrounds.  I work with one color at a time and dry in between colors, to prevent the colors getting muddy.  The stamps I'm using are from the Unity Stamp June 2018 sentiment kit.  It's a beautiful stamp set and has a wonderful selection of sentiments.  (Psssst.... it's on sale too!)

Tri-Color Embossed Butterfly Card

Hey friends, I'm popping in today to share this pretty Spring card.  I'm showcasing this is amazing background stamp from Unity Stamps, called "Migration of Beauty", (current sale,  price reduced by 50% when added to shopping cart) and pairing it with the "Wishing You Sunshine And Laughter" sentiment. I wanted to try something different today, so I'm mixing up some of my Nuvo embossing powders for a unique trifecta of beauty!   (Psst... the current 50% off sale at Unity ends Thurs. 5/16 at midnight!)

My trio of embossing powders are from the Tonic Studios Nuvo brand and include Ocean Sparkle (and yes, this stuff really sparkles!), Crushed Mulberry and Glacier White.

I simply grabbed a clean, empty salt shaker from my cabinet and filled it with approximately 1/2 teaspoon of each color, placing my hand over the top of the bottle cap, and shaking to mix.

Such an interesting combination and you can see closer detail in the photo further down.  When you tap off the excess powder prior to heating with your craft heat tool, simply place it back in a baggie or shaker bottle for another use.

In addition to embossing my stamped background and sentiment, I also embellished with Nuvo Dream Drops, Jewel Drops and Crystal gemstones (centered on my burlap string butterfly).  This card sparkles and shines and is so pretty!  I watercolored my card using Altenew pan colors and then blended in some ink from Catherine Pooler Ink.  You'll find product links to most of the products that I used at the end of this post.
