Black White Pop of Color Card

Hello crafty friends, I've been out of commission for a couple weeks, thanks to acute bronchitis. It's allergy season and it usually hits me pretty hard. I'm finally feeling much better, just need to shake this cough. I know some of you are dealing with the same issues and my heart goes out to you!

Today, I wanted to share a card that I'll be linking up to the Unity Stamps May Challenge. It's a black and white card challenge with a pop of color. If you're a member of the Unity Show N Tell group on Facebook, that's where you'll find their monthly challenges. As a brand ambassador for Kuretake Zig, it's also a perfect showcase for a little watercoloring with their new colors.

I recently received the new 30 color set from Kuretake Zig Japan. The colors are warm and smoky and I absolutely love them. I did some swatching to decide on my color choices and went with

401 and 402 for my leaves. For my flower bloom, I used 807, 809 and a touch of 205. 

To begin, I stamped my Unity Stamp image from the Jesus and Germs stamp set in black hybrid ink on the smooth side of Strathmore watercolor paper and heat set it to prevent any bleeding. I also used my Misti stamp positioner to get a perfect stamped image.

This stamp set has a really lovely scripture sentiment that I selected specifically for making sympathy cards, which is what I'll be using this card for.

To watercolor with my Zigs, I swiped my colors on a craft mat and grabbed the color with a waterbrush and began painting. This challenge is just to create a pop of color, keeping the theme mostly black and white. For a little added pop, I swiped my green Zig brush along two corners of my watercolor panel, wet it with my waterbrush, then blotted with a paper towel.

This is such an elegant and impactful card, perfect for sending condolences or boosting someone's spirits. There are other sentiments as well and you can check this stamp set out here at Unity Stamps.

Thanksgiving Autumn Leaves Card

Hello lovelies.  Today, I'm sharing a non-traditional Thanksgiving card that features the September 2019 Sentiment Kit from Unity Stamps, along with lots of products from Scrapbook.com.

 I've been sharing some of my coloring over on my Instagram page, so be sure you're following me.  This month marks another round of The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge, and these lovely leaves were colored with that in mind. To begin, I stamped my leaves with the exclusive hybrid ink in Leather, from Scrapbook.com.

Next, I watercolored my leaves using my Altenew pan watercolors and a water brush, onto watercolor paper, then cut them with my Brother Crafts Scan N Cut machine.  If you'd like to see a quick, 30 second coloring process, check out my short video on Instagram, here.

I'm entering my card into the Unity Stamps November challenge at the Unity Stamps Show and Tell Facebook group. The challenge is to use paint on a project.  I used Plaid Multi-Surface paint in Gold and Bark Brown, splattering my paint by dipping a wet paint brush into lightly water spritzed paint, then tapping all over.  To get a few larger drops, I dip the end of the handle into the paint and dot wherever I desire.  I used that same technique on my white cardstock, once my card was finished, focusing on only the brown paint.

I don't often have a plan when I begin a project and wasn't sure which direction I wanted to go.  At the last minute, I decided to ink up the Cloudy Skies stencil from Heffy Doodle.  It's been unused in my stash for awhile and I thought it would make an interesting pairing with the leaves.

I've never used a cloud stencil before, although I've made my own DIY cloud stencil techniques.  I found this video that was extremely helpful, by Heffy Doodle, and I highly recommend it, should you choose to purchase this stencil.  You'll find important information on how to use this stencil around the 48 minute mark, if you wish to scroll to that point.

For my stenciled ink colors, I used a variety of Scrapbook.com hybrid inks including Ballet Slipper, Orange Cream, Autumn Leaves and Ranger Ink/Simon Hurley Triple Berry.  You'll find direct product links to these at the end of this post.  I highly recommend these inks!  I applied them, using the new domed ink blending tools, also from Scrapbook.com.

For a touch of sparkle, I mounted my panel onto the Tonic Studio Berry Fizz Glitter cardstock.  It is so gorgeous!  That panel was then mounted onto scored Neenah cardstock.

3D Floral Jumbo Tag & Exciting News!

Hello crafty friends.  Today, I'm sharing this 3D Jumbo Floral Tag using the exclusive Jumbo Tag Nesting Dies from Scrapbook.com, along with a variety of different coloring mediums.  I'm also using stamps from the Unity Stamp Company sharing one of my favorite crafty techniques.  Scroll down for a few brief, creative details. First, I created a jumbo tag with watercolor paper and my Jumbo tag nesting dies.  I used my Ranger Ink distress and oxide ink for the smooshing technique; spritzing water onto my Waffle Flower Crafts Water Media Mat, then "smooshing" the watercolor paper into the ink.

Next, I stamped the Chicken Wire stamp from Unity Stamps onto my tag and used a hexagon embossing folder with my Spellbinders Platinum 6 emboss/die cut machine. 

My favorite every day household tool?  A nail file.  I use it to sand the edges of my cardstock and to sand the raised edges of embossed images for that wow factor. 

For my bloom, I used the Unity Stamps Blooming Peonies background stamp and fussy cut one bloom.  I fussy cut the petals and used small foam circles to pop it up.  This was colored with my Altenew pan watercolor set.  My sentiment was colored with Copics and I used my Brother Scan N Cut to create a die cut.

BONUS TIP: When creating 3D flowers, stack some of your petals with double or triple foam circles for added dimension, using Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L foam circles.
