World Cardmaking Day 2024

It's World Cardmaking Day 2024! I recently received the entire Pinkfresh Studio Magical Holiday collection and have been trying to wind my way through all the things! Today, I used my Spellbinders Betterpress for the first time, paired with the PFS Magical Holiday press plates. Scroll down for more. Now, if you don't have the Betterpress system, Pinkfresh Studio also has a stamp set with the same image, which I'll also have linked up at the end of this post.

I used the festive border across the top and bottom of my cardstock, using black hybrid ink from my stash. Because I used a lighter weight of Neenah cardstock, I didn't get as deep of a Letterpress impression. There was cardstock included with my Betterpress system but it was a light gray and I needed white. I will definitely be getting my hands on some heavier weight cardstock.

However, if you don't have a stamp positioner, let me tell you, you can actually use the Betterpress as a stamp positioner as well! 

To color my images I used my OLO Markers. I wanted to keep it simplistic so I selected 3 complimentary colors of green and brown. I think traditionally, colorists go with red for berries, but I'm not traditional, haha!

I've actually got some brownish berries in my backyard blooming on some bushes. as we speak.

To finish my card, I splattered some gold paint for a little shine and shimmer, and also splattered white paint around my greenery.

I picked some olive green paper from one of my paper pads as the backing for my card panel. Both the panel and paper were adhered flat for easy mailing.

Birthday Maze Card for Erin Lee Creative

Hello lovelies. I'm joining some of my designer friends for a fun Instagram hop today featuring the new release from Erin Lee Creative that was released a few days ago. Now, I'm generally not a fan of piecing together intricate die cuts. I just don't have the patience for it. With that being said, I actually enjoyed mixing up and adhering the various colors of cardstock that were die cut with the Maze cover plate.

I chose some complimentary colors from a variety of paper pads in my stash: white, pink, yellow and a confetti patterned paper from a birthday paper pad. 

I think adding that patterned paper was a smart choice. It gives this card a little something extra, don't you think?

For my die cut bow, I did some ink blending along the edges with my Catherine Pooler ink and a blender brush, then used adhesive foam tape to pop up each die cut element.

My sentiment was stamped with black hybrid ink and also the same ink I used for the bow, CP Bay Breeze.

I thought about adding sequins but I think the patterned paper provided enough "bling" that sequins weren't really necessary.

I saved all my leftover pieces and frames from the various colors, storing them in a baggy so I can create more cards in the future with those bits.

Daily Affirmation Card for Erin Lee Creative

There's a lot happening this week at Erin Lee Creative, starting with an early release that goes live today to email subscribers. Tomorrow, it goes live for the rest of the world! So, I'm bringing you a little early inspiration featuring 4 brand new products from ELC. Scroll for details on my "daily affirmation" card.

I wanted to create a "mirror" on my card with a daily affirmation. It's so easy to allow things in our life to consume us and let's face it, there's a lot of bad news on the daily. Maybe you're struggling in some way. Maybe you're down on yourself because you lost your cool with the kids or a co-worker.

Look in the mirror and tell yourself, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". If you're a person of Faith, then you know how important it is to stay in the Word and not let the things of this world take hold. This card serves as your reminder to look in the mirror daily, speak words of power and lift yourself up with Him who gives you strength! 

I used the frame die from the Vintage Bow Frame die set and new Rose Gold metallic cardstock with my Platinum 6 to create my "mirror". I also traced around my frame die with a pencil on vellum and trimmed along the edges, to use as an overlay for my mirror.

Next, I used my stamp positioner to stamp the sentiment below from the Faith Over Fear stamp set with black hybrid ink. It's very important to allow drying naturally or carefully heat set, making sure not to allow the vellum to buckle under the heat. I chose to air dry. I also used a dark yellow marker to color in the wings on the back side of the vellum to avoid any bleeding of colors.

You can easily smudge ink on vellum before drying so take care!

I was seriously considering heat embossing my sentiment directly on the rose gold cardstock and not having a vellum overlay. However, I was visiting my dad and not at home when I created this card and didn't have access to all my play things, haha! It can also be real tricky photographing metallics so I opted for the vellum overlay this time.

For my background, I used the new Handwriting Hot Foil Plate, Spellbinders Aura foil, and a white A2 sized card panel with my Glimmer machine and Platinum 6. I love the writing font, it's so cool and I can see a lot of great uses for it, making tags for instance.

If you'll notice in my first photo, my lighting was really bright and the Rose Gold, to me, looks a bit pink in that shot. However, you can see the true color in my photo below.  It's sooo gorgeous, let me tell you!

The die cut blooms on my card were trimmed from the ELC Jumbo Wildflower Die. I cut these dies twice, once on white cardstock and once on some colored paper from one of my paper pads. I staggered and adhered my blooms together and popped them up on adhesive foam. I also added some liquid embellishment in the center of the blooms.
