Mixed Media Cards for Sizzix and Scrapbook.com

I'm so happy that Scrapbook.com invited me to help them celebrate the new Sizzix release today with a brand new Sizzix designer; Stacey Parks. Scrapbook.com kindly sent me some of these new goodies and I'll be sharing more in the coming days. However, today I'm focusing on one of the layered stencils and one of the acrylic stamp sets in this release, and playing with the new mixed media papers from Scrapbook.com. I also used a color wheel app to determine the colors I'll be using today. Scroll down for all the details! You'll also find my clickable affiliate supply list at the end of this post. One of my favorite free apps is the Color Gear Lite color wheel. I decided I wanted to use 4 colors on my project (not including black), so I selected the RYB (red,yellow,blue) model and landed my cursor on one of the colors. It then selected coordinating colors to go with it. Below is a screenshot from my app.

The stamp set I'm creating with today is the Sizzix Cosmopolitan - Inspire set. These are rather large images, with the floral image measuring 7.9 x 4.9 inches. They're ideal for scrapbookers and cardmakers alike. If you use a stamp platform, you will need a large one. I used my larger original Misti stamp positioner and my Scrapbookcom hybrid black ink on the white mixed media paper, then trimmed it to an A2 card panel size. I had the 6x8 inch mixed media pad on hand, but Scrapbookcom also makes an A2 size pad.

Next, I chose Ranger Inks from my stash that would work with these colors.

I started by watercoloring the flowers using the easiest technique I know; pressing my ink pad on a craft mat, then grabbing the color with a wet waterbrush to paint. I love how easy the watercolor glides on the mixed media paper. It's very heavyweight and there's no worry about the paper buckling or fraying from the mixture. You can layer colors with ease as well. I zoomed in on the photo above to show you how I watercolored my blooms, then went in with more of the same color to deepen it.

After watercoloring my flowers, I colored with a touch of my green ink to outline them and filled in my backdrop with my blue ink mixture. I also splattered on some white paint. 

I wanted to try heat embossing on the black mixed media paper, and heat embossed my sentiment. The sentiment is actually one long quote, so I used my mint tape to mask off the desired sections for stamping and heat embossing. When finished, I trimmed my sentiment strips and popped them up on adhesive foam strips. 

Now, the challenge for myself was to create 2 cards using the same colors. 

Next up, I'm using the Stacey Parks 4 layer stencil set, Cosmopolitan - Floral Impressions. I absolutely love that these stencils are etched with the brand name and also NUMBERED, one through four. It makes it so easy to know the order in which you should stencil! As you can see below, I chose a different color for each stenciled image. 

I used the same ink colors as the first card, inking on the white mixed media paper. I also used my Scrapbookcom blending brushes for this. I love them, they're my favorite!

Both cards were so easy to create. I really love the artsy look to the stenciled card. I also trimmed down my card panel to about half an inch under an A2 size, to allow room for layering on some pretty, coordinating orange paper from the Scrapbookcom Joyful paper pad. Both of my card panels are mounted on Neenah A2 vertical cards. I also used some Pops of color for the center of my bloom, and again, splattered white paint all around. My sentiment was die cut using the Joyful - Hello Hi Friend die set and my exclusive black Platinum 6 die cut system.

Finger Stenciling With New Lunar Paste

I'm so happy to share this card today, featuring products sent to me by Scrapbook.com, including the new Lunar Paste from Simon Hurley and Ranger Ink! I wanted to get basic with my stenciling and using your fingers is as basic as it gets. I'm also using the new Scrapbook.com Mixed Media paper and I'll tell you further down why you need this in your life too!

Let me start by saying this: Using a palette knife or scraper tool to stencil with the new Lunar Paste will definitely give you a deeper color.

Let me also say, that is not what I'm going for today. The Simon Hurley Love Struck Lunar Paste is a gorgeous red color. Likewise, the Lunar Paste in Breakup Blue is equally beautiful. Both offer an opaque metallic shine and also coordinate with the Simon Hurley inks of the same name. I know you're going to see a lot of lovely inspiration in the coming days and I'm sharing yet another way to get the most from your supplies.

I decided to try for a more translucent color for my clouds, finger stenciling with the Scrapbook.com Little Clouds Stencil.

All you need is a craft mat, your pretty little fingers and some Lunar Paste. And, paper towels to wipe your fingers and craft mat! I simply dabbed a little of the paste onto my craft mat and grabbed some color with my finger and began tapping in color. It was super quick and easy. I even grabbed a bit of color from both pastes and dabbed for a mixed color effect. 

Let me tell you about the new Mixed Media paper from Scrapbook.com. It comes in black and white and heavyweight at 140 lbs. You won't have to worry about any bleed through on the flip side. That's great news if you love making tags but don't want the hassle of backing them to cover up your bleed through.

I also love the color of the clouds using the Lunar Paste on the mixed media paper! It'ss very smooth and the color swipes easily which is a bonus. I also colored my die cut heart balloons with Lunar Paste too. These were die cut with the mixed media paper, using my Platinum 6. Also, two of the balloons have an etched design which I think is absolutely darling. Oh and did you notice one other thing? I die cut 3 more balloons with my dark blue paper, as a backing for my colored balloons and a shadow effect.

Lastly, I finished my card by backing my mixed media card panel (trimmed down to just under A2 sized) with the dark blue paper from the Scrapbook.com Jewels Paper Pad. This was also paired with white Neenah cardstock to create the die cut sentiment from the Hugs Love You die set.

I flipped through several paper pads trying to decide which color paper would coordinate best with my two Lunar Paste colors. The navy was a solid win.
