Ocean Birthday Card for Spellbinders

I have an ocean themed card to share, featuring the June Glimmer of the Month Club Kit from Spellbinders. This kit is titled "Cast Away", and I've had so much fun creating with it. Scroll down for details and click any of the highlighted text throughout this post for more product information or to shop.

This Glimmer kit includes a netting hot foil plate, 3 hot foil sentiment plates, a large sentiment outline die and a roll of Glimmer hot foil (selection varies).

The foil that I received in my kit this month is Opal. I am also using the Spellbinders Glimmer black/white opaque foil from my stash, for my foiled sentiments.

I don't really have much in the way of nautical themed stamps and dies, but I do have the Simon Hurley Smooth Sailing stamp/die set which is also sold at Spellbinders. I decided to incorporate the small sailboat stamp into my scene.

First, I stamped, then colored my sailboat with OLO Markers using these colors:

BG2.3, C-G3, OR3.4, R-G5

Next, I hand trimmed my sails, and foiled them with my Glimmer Hot Foil System, along with the base of my sailboat. You also need a die cut machine, such as the Spellbinders Platinum 6, to run your Glimmer platform through, to seal the foiling.

I wanted to pop up these elements with adhesive foam and also ended up trimming these elements down a bit with my scissors. I wanted this boat to be a little bit smaller to better fit within the confines of the scene that I was creating.

My sentiments were foiled on black cardstock, using my white Spellbinders hot foil. I also made some extra sentiments to have on hand, foiling on white cardstock with black foil.

For my scene, I tore some ombre paper from a paper pad in my stash to create a layer of color. The torn part, makes very effective waves, which is a bonus! I also created some 3D elements, hot gluing some netting using cheesecloth, and creating a rope from the boat to the netting, with some twine from my stash.

I created one final piece of foiling, which you can see at the bottom of my card. I foiled a trimmed section of kraft paper with the Opal hot foil, for my sandy beach.

I really love how this turned out! Let me know if you have any questions in the comment section. If you'd like to become a new subscriber to the Glimmer Monthly Club Kit, the window to receive this kit is through June 27th. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Sand and Starfish Card for Spellbinders

I have another card featuring the new Simon Hurley/Ranger Ink release, sent to me by my lovely friends at Spellbinders. This is my second card using the Smooth Sailing stamp and die set. I wanted to create a sandy beach scene to accent those gorgeous, etched starfish dies. Scroll down for creative details. You'll also find clickable product links at the end of this post.

To begin, I did some ink smooshing on an A2 white card panel, using the inks you see below. If you've never tried ink smooshing, its' super easy! Just press your ink pad onto a craft mat and spritz with water, then randomly pat sections of your card panel in the mix. Heat dry your wet card in between colors. I started with the Vintage Photo, and finished with the Rusty Hinge ink.

When done, I did some ink blending with a blender brush on all four corners of the panel using the Vintage Photo Ink.

I also splattered black paint and white paint around my card. I typically drop some of my paint onto my craft mat and spritz with a little water and mix with a paintbrush, then splatter all around.

I love embossing card panels as a backdrop for my focal point. It gives so much added interest to a card, even when just a little of the embossing is peeking out from behind a card panel! I used the Geo Screen 3D embossing folder with my Platinum 6. The design reminds me of a compass and is very fitting for a nautical or beach themed card.

Next, I ran the etched and outline starfish dies with cardstock through my Platinum 6 to create 5 die cuts.  These were adhered in random areas around my card, offset on the card panel edges and trimmed from the edge.

If you follow me on Instagram, I shared a short video in my stories today, showing how I popped out the inner ridges of those starfish using a stylus to give more definition.

Lastly, I did some heat embossing on torn kraft paper for my sentiment and inked up the edges using Ranger Ground Espresso distress ink.

I hope you like this card as much as I do! Thanks so much for popping in. If you'd like to do some shopping through my affiliate links, I'd appreciate it so much. These links are provided at no additional cost to you. See you again soon!

Terri
