Christmas Elf Card for Catherine Pooler Designs

Hello friends! The Night Before Christmas collection is live now at Catherine Pooler Designs. I have a festive Christmas card to share, featuring one of Santa's elves and lots of products from CPD. I'm also using several techniques which include watercoloring, heat embossing and masking. Scroll down for details. You'll find my clickable supply list at the end of this post, as well.

I absolutely love the plaid paper from the North Pole patterned paper pack. If there is ever a plaid design in a paper pack, you better believe I'm going to use it. Plaid and gingham are my most favorite papers to play with and the colors on this are so gorgeous and scream Christmas!

I featured the new Sugarplum ink with my last card, but am using a variety of other colors today, for a more traditional Christmas color feel. I'll have them linked in my supply list below.

For my wreath (Season's Peekings stamp/die set) and elf (Santa's Crew stamp/die set) stamped and die cut images, I opted to do some watercoloring, one of my favorite techniques. Simply press your ink onto a craft mat, spritz with water, then paint with a wet paint brush or water brush. Catherine Pooler inks are water based, so they work perfectly.

However, before painting my wreath, I heat embossed it with the new Catherine Pooler inspired embossing Glitter, "Sleigh", stamping the leafy wreath outline image with clear Versamark ink, sprinkling on the powder, tapping off the excess, then heat setting with a craft heat tool. It's absolutely stunning, as you can see in the photo below. 

After heat embossing, I went in and filled the gaps with my watercoloring, using primarily CPD ink in Mardi Gras and Samba. The ribbon bow is another image that I also stamped and heat embossed with the outline stamp, watercoloring it as well with the Samba ink.

My elf was watercolored with Pistachio, Do-Si-Do, Orange Twist, Amber (very diluted with water), Mardi Gras and Samba. 

I used a stamp positioner so I could do some masking for my sentiment. Masking involves placing tape over words to block them so you can stamp the intended words with a specific color of ink.

If you've never tried this, make sure once you've taped a word and inked another word, to remove the tape before stamping onto cardstock to avoid a mess from the inky tape. Repeat as desired. I also used Mardi Gras and Samba ink for my sentiment.

 

Lastly, I added clusters of sequins to my card from 3 different CPD sequin mixes, the red sequins from the Frankfurt mix, the light beige/yellowish sequins from the Kings Canyon mix, and the white and snowflake sequins from the new Lubek sequin mix. I love adding bits of sparkle and shine to my cards.

Wreath on Door Christmas Card for So Suzy Stamps

Today, I've got a quick and easy sparkly Christmas card featuring some of the newest stamps from our holiday release, including the Noel and Wreath stamp that I designed, topped off with that festive bow designed by Olesya!  This project is up on the So Suzy Stamps blog today, but the tutorial can be found right here.

You'll need a few key ingredients to recreate this:

-woodgrain paper

-white cardstock (A2 sized)

-vellum

-white embossing powder

-brown embossing powder

-pink glitter embossing powder

-versamark watermark clear ink

-craft heat tool

-Nuvo Crystal drops pink and white

-Nested Circle dies or circle punch 2"

-foam squares, adhesive runner

-burlap string *optional

-black dye ink pad

-q-tips, sharp tool

-stamp positioner

**Make sure you position your woodgrain cardstock in a corner of your stamp position, so it can be replaced in the same spot for double stamping.

1. Trim your woodgrain cardstock to layer on your A2 sized card.  

2.  Line up your wreath stamp and use your stamp positioner to stamp with Versamark, heat emboss with white embossing powder, tap off excess.

3.  Leave Wreath stamp in same position on positioner.  Make sure your woodgrain has been placed back in the same position.  Re-ink wreath stamp with Versamark and ink your embossed wreath again, over the white embossing.  

4.  Sprinkle pink embossing glitter, tap off excess but DO NOT HEAT YET.  Use q-tip to remove the pink glitter, leaving white underlying white embossing.  This is totally a preference as I wanted to fill with white Nuvo crystal drops.  Heat with craft tool.

5.  Next, we'll move on to the bow.  Stamp with versamark ink and heat emboss with brown (Nuvo Hot Chocolate) embossing powder.  

6.  To glitter the bow,  press versamark ink directly over entire area of embossed bow.  Sprinkle with pink glitter embossing powder.  Use a q-tip to remove the embossing powder from around outer edge of bow and from the brown embossed outline.  Use a sharp tool such as a vinyl weeding tool, to better removed glitter powder from the outline.  Heat with craft tool and fussy cut.

7.  Stamp NOEL with versamark ink and heat emboss with brown embossing powder on vellum.  Fussy cut each letter to pop up later on card.

8.  Use a circle punch or nesting die circles to create a circle window cutout.  Adhere a section of vellum behind the woodgrain paper, covering the circle.

9.  Add Nuvo Crystal drops where the "berry" dots are on wreath.  Add a string embellishement to fill inside wreath if you wish, and draping an extra strand for the letters.  Pop up the bow and letters on thin foam strips or squares.  Adhere woodgrain panel to white A2 cardstock.
