Creating a Vintage Candle Glow + Video for TPD Stamps

As an avid card maker, each project that I create is, "my new favorite".  So, of course, today's project is,,,,,, my new favorite!  Seriously though, this was super fun to create and I adore how it turned out.  I'm using the "Holiday Greetings" stamp set from Two Paper Divas Stamps and have done some no-line watercoloring, along with creating a super cool vintage glow around my candle.

Here's a close-up of my glowing candle.  If you've never done no-line watercoloring, basically, you're just using a very light colored ink such as a beige or light gray, to stamp your image so there's no dark outline.  I used Mama Elephant Moonlight pigment ink then watercolored with my Tombow dual brush markers.  I would recommend that you color in your candle wreath first, then color your candle, being especially careful not to let your colors bleed.  My papers are from Anna Griffin and I even added a little splatter of DecoArt Multi-satin Cotton Ball paint to my candle, to give it an artsy touch.

To me, the most satisfying part of creating art, is having a vision and being able to translate that vision.  I imagined an old time, glowing vintage candle, the kind found in old story books or old children's Bibles..... I think I successfully captured that image that was dancing in my head.  It looks just like a photograph.  At least, I think so.

If you'd like to see a short video on how to create that candle glow, click the link below to view my YouTube video.  I'd love it if you'd leave a comment and a thumbs up while you're there.  It's a super easy technique and will be worth your time to take a peek.  I'll also be sharing my project on Instagram for #thedailymarker30day coloring challenge.   You can find me @wavingmywand on Instagram.

What's Cookin' with TPD Stamps

It's time for another project featuring Two Paper Divas Stamps, and I've got a fun card today, using stamps from the What's Cookin' stamp set.  There's a store wide sale of 30% off so this is the perfect time to add this set to your collection.

My son loves to cook.  Loves it.  Did I say, he loves to cook?  In fact, he wants to be a professional chef.  I have to say, he's incredibly gifted with cooking skills in the kitchen (takes after his mom, of course).  I recently purchased some amazing papers from Kaisercraft which pair perfectly with my stamps today.

But first, I need to color up my images.  I'll admit, I've had this idea brewing for awhile so I knew exactly the direction that I wanted to take, with a vintage mixing bowl as the star of the show.  I've used my Zig Clean Color brushes for all my images today, sticking with the colors, gray, deep red, flesh, oatmeal and a white gel pen.  I also used my waterbrush to blend and dilute some of the color.

Here's a short two and a half minute video, if you'd like to see the coloring process in action for the bowl.  Today is also the start of #thedailymarker30day challenge on Instagram, hosted by Kathy Racoosin.  I'll be sharing this project over there as well.

When coloring the bowl, I left white space in the middle, touching up with a gel pen as well.  The gel pen served to add a little "flour" to my rolling pin, also.  Use a waterbrush to soften the look.  That's right, I use my water brush all the time with my white gel pen.  Both are staple tools on most of my projects.  Once I finished coloring, I added some glossy accents to my images.  Be sure and let your colors completely dry so they don't bleed when applying the glossy accents.  If you have a heat embossing tool, you can just take a few seconds to dry your image.

Batty for Adornit and The Hop to Stop Domestic Violence

Today, I'm creating my third project for The Hop to Stop Domestic Violence, hosted by Becca Cruger from Damsel of Distressed Cards.  Purple is the color designated for domestic violence.  Please, feel free to join in by linking up your newly created "purple" card, as well.  Hurry,  though, the challenge ends Sunday, Oct 30th at noon CST.

I wanted to make one more Halloween card, and decided to watercolor this Adornit image with my Tombow dual brush markers.

This Adornit Art Play Paintable image is from the "If the Shoe Fits" collection, designed by Michele Hamilton.  I'm also using new Adornit scrapbook papers designed by Laura Kelly.  They will be available soon online but are already making their way to local scrapbook stores now.

If the Shoe Fits Paintable: click to enlarge

I thought the Batty image would be fun to color for my purple theme, plus, what child wouldn't love to receive this adorable card?  Becca is donating cards to her local women's shelter and is accepting anyone's cards that are linked up to the challenge, if they wish to contribute.

Link up your newly created "Purple" card, here.

You can check out all the Art Play Paintables available at Adornit, here.

Creative Ways To Stretch Your Stamps With Two Paper Divas + Sale

I'm here today with another project for Two Paper Divas Stamps and a little spin on one of the Halloween stamp sets, Spell on Me.

One of the things that I look for in a stamp set is, duality.  If I can find a way to creatively stretch my supplies, then I'm more likely to purchase that product.  One of the things that I love about this seasonal set, which obviously is perfect for Halloween, is that it also tells a love story as well.

Our resident Divas had that in mind, when they designed Spell On Me.  You can not only spin your magic at Halloween but bring it out for special occasions, like Valentines Day, an Anniversary, birthday or any special occasion where love is involved.  My husband would love to receive this! Do you have a student in the family who's a science geek?  How fun would it be to give them a cute card with a fun take on their favorite subject?  Teachers?  How about a bunch of cute little mini cards or tags that they can pass out to their students?  There are so many possibilities with this set.
And, it's on sale which is always an added bonus!

Here's a few quick details on how I designed this card.  I took one of the potion images and stamped 5 rows (on a 4x5 piece of cardstock that I eventually trimmed down) alternating my bottle upside down, then right side up and off setting it at the next line, to give that staggered appearance.  Next, I used my Spellbinders Celebrations Square Pierced dies with my Cuttlebug die cutting machine, to create these fun frames, popping out the inner frame with foam squares.

Really, it was very quick and easy.  Just don't do like I did and fumble the ink pad right in the middle and then have to start all over.  Am I the only who fumbles their ink pads?  Good grief, it happens to me all the time.  One minute I'm stamping, the next minute, the ink pad is flying and landing ink side down, right smack in the middle of my project.  It feels like Sunday afternoon football, and I just fumbled the play.  Surely, I'm not alone in my crafty mishaps......

Purchase SPELL ON ME, here.  Look around while you're there as there's a store wide sale of 25% off and you are bound to love what you see.  I'm particularly fond of their coffee stamp sets too.

Today, I'm creating my second project for The Hop to Stop Domestic Violence, hosted by Becca Cruger from Damsel of Distressed Cards.  Purple is the color designated for domestic violence.  You are welcome to participate by linking up to the challenge, as well.  There are so many crafters and sponsors supportive of this event, and so many stories being shared, from personal experience.  It's really a wonderful thing that Becca is doing.

I'm using several stamps from So Suzy Stamps for my project today, including, Fairy with Flower, Fairy Dust, and a brand new sentiment, No Midnight.  I'm also including affiliate links, if you'd like to purchase any of these stamps.

I used a lot of Ranger distress ink sprays, pigment ink, glitter glue and stenciling to make this project.  I thought I'd stretch my pineapple stencil from The Crafter's Workshop, by using part of the image on my background.  I really love how it turned out.  This stencil is from the "Tropical" collection.  It was once available at So Suzy Stamps but I believe it is no longer in stock.  You can message her if you're interested, and see if she can order it for you.

Casology Challenge - Coffee

FTC disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links so, if you purchase a product using the link I may receive a small commission. I only participate in affiliate programs that feature products that I use and love. Your purchase price is not affected in any way, by using my links)
I was so hoping I would find the time to link up to the Casology challenge this week.  Several of my crafty friends have shared this challenge and of course, I'm another coffee loving crafter, so it's right up my alley.  I've been wanting to break in this amazing Stampendous stamp that I was lucky enough to snag at Tuesday Morning recently.

This is easier to make than it looks; a waterbrush, Tombow dual brush markers and a white gel pen are all you need.  I swiped my stamp with  my black Tombow around the rim, then swiped  the center with brown and filled in one addition beige color.  Mix it up a bit in the center with the waterbrush, blotting with a paper towel.

I did take a paint brush at the last minute and dip it into my Ranger Distress paint to splatter a bit on the page, with a tiny bit of white splatter in my cup.  Fill in the wording with a white gel pen to make it pop and call it a day!

Link up to the challenge, here.  Hurry, though, it ends Monday at noon.  Thanks so much to Stamplorations for sponsoring!

GIU Girl for Unity Stamps - Day 5

For my last day as the Growing in Unity Girl for the Unity Stamp Company, I've got a mixed media project for you, featuring "Nature's Holiday".  If you were smart enough to snag this last week when it was on sale, good for you!  It is such a precious stamp set.  Now, keep in mind, I set out with a vision in my head but, as often happens, I ended up with something totally different than what I intended.   Different is good, though.

Here's a close-up of my mixed media bird.  I went from stamping the original image with brown distress ink, to adding Flower Soft, Glitter Dimensional Glue, various inks and splatters of paint.

A friend had given me this amazing designer paper, I don't even know what brand, but it was a nice backdrop for what I had in mind.  My pinecones?  Lordy, they got the treatment, let me tell you; stamped, watercolored, dried, embossed, sanded, glued and splattered!

I dipped my wet toothbrush in DecoArt Americana paint, then ran my thumb across the brush to "spray" snow on my project.  I made some larger "snowflakes" with a paintbrush.  For my sentiment, I stamped it on canvas ribbon then used a glitter pen to embellish.

For my bird nest, I used burlap string and the trimmed edges of some wired faux burlap ribbon that I could fold and bend to my liking.

Purchase Nature's Holiday, here.

Thanks for stopping by.  Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered to win one of two prizes, a grab bag of 25 stamps.

I'll be announcing the winners on Monday.

GIU Girl for Unity Stamps - Day 4

I've been having so much fun this week as the Growing In Unity Girl and the fun continues with this little upcycled project that features the Halloween Chatter Sentiment Kit from Unity Stamps.  My son plays the saxophone in the high school marching band and one of the recent fundraisers was selling cookie dough.  You know where I'm going with this, don't you?  So, when I was making cookies this past weekend, I looked at that cookie dough tub and the old light bulb went off.  Why not gift some cookies in the original container instead of tossing it?  Not only are you giving a homemade food gift, but you're dressing it up as well and going the extra mile to tell that friend how special they are.

I originally planned to just cut my dimensions with my Cricut Explore, but since not everyone has a Cricut, I'm going old school with this.  My lid was right around 5" and I found the perfect container that fit the inner rim of my lid.  I traced the perfect circle with the base of my container.  Use a bowl, or plate.....whatever fits your dimensions.  By the way, I snagged this kraft paper last year on clearance at Target.  A 12 pk of 8"x 8" paper for .25.  Perfect!  This upcycled project is getting better and better!  I cut two strips that would equal the circumference around the bowl, as well.

I'm using two stamps from the kit, including the skull.  First, I stamped just with white, then inking again with white but tracing the outline with a black marker before stamping.  I loved the second image more, so that's the one I went with.  My inks that I'm using today are the Susan K Weckesser mini color pop inks from Colorbox, "Snow" and "Mystery".

For my lid, I took my sentiment and stamped it over and over and over, staggering each line.  I chose just two words right in the center, to color in with a gel pen, but you could color in all the words if you so choose.  I kind of like that little pop of color, as is.

Because the circumference of the bowl is at a slant, I would recommend that you only use adhesive along the top inside edge of your stamped border and leave the bottom edge loose.  Otherwise, it will pucker in places.  Some festive washi tape and glitter tape finish off this fun little tub of Spooky fun.  I have to tell you, this is one of my favorite seasonal stamp sets.  I've used it too many times to count and absolutely it.  You will too!

Grandma's Special Soup With Adornit

This is my second project that I'm sharing today, some good old fashioned homemade goodness; Grandma's Special Soup.  This is actually from the new OCCASIONS Art Play Paintables Collection designed by Lindsay Ostrom, for Adornit.

For this project, I chose to use my Zig Clean Color brushes.  I wanted to get the true feel of that favorite can of soup that we all know and love, and I like the way that they blend.  I'm particularly fond of the grey.  It shades nicely from light to dark.  My white gel pen is a staple on most of my projects and this is no exception.  I've colored in a little "light" on my can, as you can see.

I really wanted this card to have an old fashioned feel so I've incorporated lace and gingham ribbon.  I'm also using brand new Adornit scrapbook papers design by Laura Kelly.   These papers bring a little edgy flavor to my old fashioned theme.

This new collection can be found in independent scrapbook stores.  If your store is not carrying Adornit products, ask them if they would like to!  They will be available soon at adornit.com and scrapbook.com as well so keep checking back.
