Peeking Butterflies Card for Scrapbookcom

Hello cardmakers. Today I've got another card created for Scrapbook.com featuring their new A2 size cardstock packs. They sold out a few weeks ago and are now back in stock. It's a hot item so grab some before they sell out again! There's 5 different packs you can purchase separately, or grab the bundle. It comes in Glimmer, Classic, Heavyweight, Swiss Dot and Canvas. Scroll down for details on my Peeking Butterflies Card!

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

The cardstock packs I'm creating with today are Glimmer and Swiss Dot.

I started by die cutting lots of butterflies from the Cottage die set. Some will serve as the backing for the top layer of butterflies. I lightly tacked them in the center and also scored the top butterflies in the center so the wings would be lifted.

I wanted to add some Pops of Color in Soft Lavender on top of those tiny holes cut out on the butterfly wings. To keep my liquid embellishment from seeping through, I simply placed thin strips of 1/4" mint tape on the back side of the wings, as pictured below.

Now here's a really cool trick.  I applied my Pops of Color at the end, after my card was completely assembled and here's why. To get your liquid embellishment to flatten and look like enamel dots, just slap your card against the top of your desk or whatever surface you are creating on. Don't be too aggressive, haha, just give it a little slap. It will flatten those liquid dots right out. Cool, huh? You can see the before and after below.

Now, the frame that I die cut using white cardstock is the A2 Stitched Scallop Block Frame. I simply punched out all 6 center pieces and backed my frame with some pretty plaid paper from the Market Bloom paper pad.

Let me also mention, to get my butterflies to look like they pop out, I pulled each butterfly through the window frame, lightly tacked it to the backside of my scalloped die cut frame, then trimmed off the excess part of the wing on the back side. I did this before adhering the plaid paper behind it.

Lastly, I used a really great sentiment from the Woodland Enchanted Forest Stamp/Die set. I wanted a longer sentiment that I could break up and spread out across my card, so I used my stamp positioner and used the masking technique to stamp, and then heat emboss, one line at a time. I did this on the textured Glimmer cardstock. I love how it looks and it's such a lovely quote!

Thanks so much for stopping by. If you'd like more information on any of the products that I used today, or wish to add some of these absolutely fabulous products to your own craft space, simply tap any of the affiliate links I've provided below.

I hope you have an amazing day. Stay crafty!

Modern Butterfly Sympathy Card

As we all do from time to time, I had the need to make a sympathy card today. I also purchased some Gina K Designs products recently that needed some love. In addition, I wanted to make something more modern, yet keep it somewhat simplistic. Scroll down for some brief chit chat, creative details and a clickable supply list at the end of this post.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

There are so many different directions to go to, when making a sympathy card. For my friend, who's father passed away, she's not the frilly type. I also didn't want to go over the top or throw a lot of things at this card.

Rather than create a separate card panel to mount on a card, I decided to trim and score my own A2 side fold card with heavyweight cardstock that wouldn't show any ink on the flipside.

I started by doing some partial ink blending with my Gina K Designs oval mask/stencil using Ranger Ink distress oxide ink in Faded Jeans. I chose this as the dominant color, to tie in with the tiny bit of blue on my butterfly.

Butterflies symbolize transformation and I thought it would be an appropriate symbol for my sympathy card. I stamped the Gina K Designs Blooming Butterfly image in black hybrid ink with my stamp positioner, then colored with OLO Markers. Here are the colors that I used:

OR4.1, 0R4,2, OR1.3,  0R3.4, 0R3.7, B4.3, YG2.5, YG8.5

I also embellished my butterfly with a white gel pen. As you can see in the close-up photo below, I also drew some white lines across the body of the butterfly and smudged them. It wasn't exactly to my liking, so I touched up the white lines with a black fine tip pen. I was much happier with it after the touch up!

I also used the coordinating Blooming Butterfly Die to cut with my Platinum 6 die cut machine.

This card took me approximately 30 minutes to make. Some of that time was figuring out what I wanted to do. I actually had a different plan to begin with but I'm very happy with my end results.

Lastly, I popped up my butterfly and sentiment with adhesive foam strips. By the way, I just love the scripty fonts of the sentiments in this stamp set. They're just so delicate! Also, my sentiment was stamped with Catherine Pooler ink in Macchiato.

I could have easily added some sequins or other sparkly embellishment, but my friend is not the bling-bling type and I chose to keep my design more simplistic.

Thanks so much for popping in. If you'd like more product information or wish to shop, I have affiliate links below to Scrapbookcom, provided at no additional cost to you. You can shop for OLO Markers, here, as I am also an affiliate for them as well. If you do make a purchase, I receive a small commission, a few cents per dollar. I appreciate it so much when you use my links, which occasionally allow me to invest back into the craft I love so much, and hopefully, inspire you as well.

Have a fabulous week.....we're expecting snow and we're all just a little excited here in the southern United States, haha!

Terri

Diamonds and Butterfly Card

I've been sharing lots of Spellbinders projects for their new releases this month and today is no exception. The new Glimmer Greetings collection went live this week and I'm featuring two products from that release; the Essential Diamonds Etched die set and the Glimmer Essential Diamond Hot Foil Plate. Scroll down for creative details, plus product links at the end of this post.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

One can never have too many encouragement cards. My first inclination was to use these products in that manner. My stacked diamond centerpiece in the photo above was created using the black and aura hot foils with my glimmer machine. I foiled them on the Spellbinders Glimmer specialty cardstock, then used my Essential Diamond dies to cut them in different sizes, running them through my manual die cut machine.

I also die cut some patterned paper from my stash to layer with my foiled diamond images, using colors that would tie to my watercolored butterfly.

I recently purchased the Spellbinders Butterfly Sentiments stamp set, designed by Bibi Cameron. I adore butterflies and love the sentiments included for so many different occasions. I stamped and heat embossed my butterfly on Canson mixed media paper which you can find at Walmart or other hobby stores.

Next, I watercolored with my Catherine Pooler inks, pressing the ink on a craft mat and grabbing the color with my water brush to paint. Once dry, I spritzed on some Ranger Hickory Smoke distress spray stain and heat set it. The colors I chose are the same colors found on a Madagascar butterfly which I used for my entire color scheme. Yes, I googled a Madagascar butterfly, and the application of where to apply the color was taken into consideration as well.

The center of my butterfly was inked with black hybrid ink and has black glitter glue applied. My sentiment strip was also heat embossed on black cardstock with white embossing powder, then popped up on multiple layers of adhesive foam.

Lastly, for the back drop of my diamond centerpiece and butterfly I die cut the A2 sized Stitched Diamond Argyle etched background die on white cardstock and backed it with black cardstock.

I also embellished my centerpiece with the Winter Evergreen Branches die set on white cardstock. Both of these die sets were also newly released this week.
