Quick and Easy Cheater Card with Free Cut Files

Let me tell you why I call this a cheater card.  This card took less than 10 minutes to make.  Once I cut my floral card front with my Cricut, along with the included scored A2 sized card cut file, it was a matter of finding a great piece of patterned paper for the backing.  In this case, papers from the Paper House Production Marbleous collection.  Yup, I cheated.

Sure, you can make your own amazing backgrounds with alcohol inks or marbling mediums.  However, I want to show you how fast you can throw a card together.  Cut the file, adhere the gorgeous paper, then adhere to your scored card.  Done and done.  It doesn't get any easier than that.  Plus, this is great for when you need to make a bundle of cards in a hurry.  You can always adhere a little bling if you like.  I dotted on some Nuvo glitter drops where you see the small circles and on the dotted "i".  Oh, and I did use some circle punches and trimmed to fit on top of my flower centers.

Floral Sampler Freebie

For my card, I cut the Hi Floral Planner Dash with Punchable Edges and sized it down, using my Cricut Explore.  I peeled back the panel to use on my card front, blending various inks and splattering for a distressed look.  I filled in the gaps with Nuvo Dream Drops, except for the center circles.  For those, I applied a layer of Nuvo Morning Dew Crystal Drops, then placed lots of Sparkletz on top.

Be The Light Mission Themed Scrapbook Layout

Today I'm sharing this layout that features a cut file created by my lovely friend Ashley at 

The Cut Shoppe.  BE THE LIGHT is perfect for mission themed scrapbook pages.  I'm using this file to spotlights my teen's most recent summer mission trip but it would also be appropriate for encouragement themed pages, as well.  I also chose papers and embellishments from the Jillibean Soup Spoonful of Soul collection, which is available now at Scrapbook.com.  Scroll down for a few creative details!

This was the first time that I have hand stitched on paper.  Let me tell, you I learned a few lessons!  Thanks to some lovely crafty friends, I learned to punch all the holes first, using a paper piercer.  I was so happy to have the Sizzix Stampers Secret Weapon on hand.  The foam pad and piercer set got the job done quickly!

Attached to the cut file is a light bulb.  I took the outline from the file, cut with my Cricut Explore, and laid it on top of my photo, tracing with a white gel pen.  Then I trimmed the photo and popped it up with foam circles, along with popping up the rest of my cut file.  By the way, behind the popped up cut file is another cut file called HEART BURST , which comes in two sizes.  My layout is sized at 8.5 x 11 inches, however I used the 12x12 inch and trimmed the edges.

If you look closely, you can also see the white cardstock in the background, splattered with spritzed distress ink.  Just another extra touch.  I love making splatters!

The journaling was typed out on my desktop computer and printed on Neenah cardstock, then layered with more Spoonful of Soul papers and popped up for dimension.

There's an entire sheet of die cut elements included with the Spoonful of Soul collection.  I used some of those as well, along with epoxy stickers.

Dog Bone Treat Box

Hello crafty friends.  Did you know today is National Dog Biscuit Day?  Seriously, it's a real thing!  Of course, I'll use any excuse to take a wacky holiday and make something fun.  Case in point, these adorable pillow boxes for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  I'm featuring the new

If you like to use svg or cut files, you can probably find a free template or template for purchase for pillow boxes.  I used my Cricut Explore and the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge in design space, resizing it to approximately 6.7"x 6.758"  This allowed me a wide enough space to insert a large Milkbone Dog biscuit inside.  Before cutting my pillow boxes, I grabbed another image from the Playful Pups Cricut cartridge and imposed it onto one side of my pillow box.  Initially I sized it to approximately 4" but after running a test cut, that was too large, so I resized it to 3".  This size was more appropriate and didn't leave large gaps of space after placing my dog bone inside.  The 3" size was more compact.  After all, you only need a peek of the bone inside, right?  

Please note that the Playful Pups dog bone image has 4 different graphic parts.  I chose the 4th graphic and hid the other parts of the file.  Once everything was lined as I wanted it, I chose "select all", then "attach".  Next step?  Cut. Worked like a charm!  I also love that this Cricut cut file also has score marks which allows me to use my score tool, digitally.  It's a technological marvel!  To finish off my pillow boxes, I adhered acetate sheets from Hero Arts on the inside.  One 3 x 4.75 inch sheet was cut in half to work with 2 boxes and trimmed to fit the dimensions inside my box, before sealing with adhesive. Keep in mind, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L has the most extensive line of adhesive products.  When working with a paper box, there is a lot of "pull" from many directions.  We've had crazy weather here in the South with relentless rain, for weeks.  I've noticed in this super damp weather that sometimes I need a stronger adhesive.  If you notice this is the case where you live, even in snowy climates, try something a little stronger, like the Extreme Double Sided Tape from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  Just a tip!  I've noticed crazy weather can affect my papercrafting.  Maybe you have too!
