Day 3 of the SITS Summer Photography Challenge - Macro

We recently took a little excursion up to a Rhododendron Festival in Mentone, AL.  On the way back, we stopped near Little River Canyon and took a mini-hike out to Indian Falls.  

On the way, we spotted trees that were filled with these foamy patches.  I'm not sure what they are, possibly some kind of bug eggs, but we had to get a picture.  I snapped this with my Samsung Galaxy S3 in macro format.

As you can see, I forgot to remove the Macro setting for the next photo, thus the slight blur.

But you can see the foam in it's entirety.  If you know what this is, please share in the comment section.  I would love to know!  Like, I said, this stuff was everywhere.  Maybe these trees produce it?  Some sort of flying insect?  

I'll be out of town the next 4 days and a little bummed that I won't be able to keep up with the challenge, but hopefully I'll get some more great pictures while I'm away.  The tips and techniques have been invaluable, from the challenge sponsors and bloggers.  Thank you!

SITS Summer Photo Challenge

I love taking pictures of nature.  I also love crafting.  So, I'm often on the road to attend a craft event, which is how I find myself on country roads at times, pulling over and snapping some beautiful photos.  As a craft blogger, lighting is so important and I love testing out lighting on nature photos as well.  As luck would have it, it was slightly overcast on this day, which makes for really great photos. 

I'm entering this into the SITS Day 1 Summer Photo Challenge, "Rules of Composition".  One object should be slightly off center, with the other object centered.  I also tinkered with the exposure on the second photo to lighten the background.

For my project, I masked my card with a center squared piece of cardstock and sprayed Smooch Spritz all around.  This stuff shimmers and shines! 

Next, I inked up this sweet bird (and sentiment) from the Unity Stamp Co. October 2013 Kit of the month, with the Colorbox Saddle ink.  I am in love with this ink!  It stamps so clean and crisp and is so full of color.  I think this will be my new go-to ink for vintage projects and Woodgrain or nature stamps.  Lastly, I heat embossed a mistletoe stamped image with white Ranger embossing powder, then painted on the Spruce Smooch and fussy cut after it was dry.  I also painted over a few white Basic Grey enamel dots with the Spruce.

The brown bubbles on the card and mistletoe are from Queen & Co.  Adorable, right?

*Note: the enamel dots were still a little wet the next morning, so I'd allow at least 24 hours to dry.

Why is it that I'm always in a hurry these days?  The great thing about stamping is, you can go as simple or as elaborate as you want.  I could have spent some quality time with distress markers (actually, I did use some on the heart....) or stamping on patterned paper and fussy cutting these images, but sometimes, simple is just right.

 

When it's late at night and you remember that it's the hubs birthday?  Yup.  You go simple; a sweet card for my son to give his dad.  I used my new Queen & Co washi tape and bubbles that I purchased from the Scrapbook Expo last week.  Not too girly, and I think all the brown gives it just the right touch for a guy, especially with that natural twine from May Arts Ribbon.  Those stamps?  From one of my favorite stamp companies of course, Unity Stamp Co!  Happy Birthday Dad!  **Scroll to the bottom for giveaway details***
