Galaxy Scripture Card for Erin Lee Creative

When I saw the Moon die and the Written in the Stars stamp set, I immediately pictured a galaxy night sky background for these images. It's been awhile since I made a galaxy card, so I decided I needed a refresher on the technique. I found a really easy tutorial on Youtube by Kristina Werner and set out to implement those steps. It was super EASY!

I trimmed some of my Altenew watercolor paper to an A2 sized panel and broke out my Altenew pan watercolors. I began by painting random colors, one color at a time.

I ended up with a patchwork of different colors on my card panel.

Next, I painted on the black watercolor paint. Kristina painted hers in a circular motion, so I followed suit, painting randomly but allowing color to still peek through in places.  I actually wished I had added on additional layers of black as it wasn't as dark as I really wanted it but, that's ok. I'll try that next time. I did blot with a paper towel here and there if I felt like the paper was too saturated.

For the stars, Kristina recommended transferring the water spritzed white paint to an acrylic block and flicking the paint off the edge of the block with the paintbrush. It worked incredibly well and I'll definitely be trying that again.

I ended up trimming down my A2 painted panel a bit and layering with black cardstock on my card. My moon die was cut twice, once with white cardstock and then with black cardstock. I adhered them together so the white is offset just a bit behind the black moon. It gives kind of a light effect, like the shine of the moon.

My sentiment was heat embossed, stamping with Versamark clear ink several times using my Misti stamp positioner, then sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set with my Ranger Heat tool. I fussy cut it and popped it up on adhesive foam, along with the moon.

I adore scripture stamps and this card just makes me so incredibly happy. The universe is vast, and everything in it!

Just Cards Video Hop Galaxy Card

Christmas Angel Card with Galaxy Sky for Adornit

Christmas is just a handful of days away, and I'm still making Christmas cards.  Today, I'm coloring up a galaxy night sky on this lovely paintable image from Adornit, featuring the Season's Greetings collection, designed by Lindsay Ostrom.

Adornit Art Play Paintables Seasons Greetings

I love coloring with the cake paints.  This background was so easy to create, simply by dipping your wet waterbrush into the cake paint and swipe random sections of color.  I started with the dark blue's and purples, then added some red and black.  A white gel pen comes in handy for "dotting" stars in the sky.  Just make sure your painted background is dry, first.  The artistic paintables paper is designed to accept many mediums of color.  I've even used waterbased markers and watercolor pencils.

The Seasons Greetings collection comes with 9 images to color and 9 sentiments for mixing and matching.  I chose the Peace on Earth sentiment, coloring with the dark blue/purple paints, but decided to fussy cut the words, so as not to cover up my angel too much.  It was detailed work but I love the outcome.  Of course, you could put the sentiment on the inside of your card as well.  I've trimmed strips of foam tape to pop up my sentiment for added dimension.
