Sunset Photo Inspiration Card

Hello lovelies, I'm back with another card featuring the new Sunset Beach Stencil Set from Erin Lee Creative. My card was inspired by a video I saw on Tiktok, showcasing a sunset at one of my favorite vacation destinations. Scroll down for creative details. I'll also have my supply list at the end of this post.

I was scrolling through TikTok and a video from the account of a Florida Real Estate agent, Sarah Thompson, showed up in my feed. I took a screenshot of this gorgeous scene and decided to use it for inspiration on my Sunset Beach card.

I did crop this photo so you won't see all of the gray sky at the top, or the dark, shadowy beach as pictured on the bottom of the full photo. I would love to tag Sarah's account but I reached out to her and did not get a response as of this writing.

Destin is one of our favorite vacation spots. I highly recommend this location, if you've never been. They have beautiful, white sandy beaches and some of the best seafood you will ever eat.

I tried to capture some of the sky reflected on the water, and the dark shadowy color of the beach. Luckily, I had Catherine Pooler inks in my stash that helped me pull this off.

Here are the inks that I used:

Pebble, Hoodie, Slate (gray inks)
Orange Twist
Whipped Honey

My inks were all applied using blender brushes. Let me give you a tip. This stencil comes in 8 different pieces. I blended more than one color with some of my stenciling. Some of the dark gray and orange for the clouds, some of the yellow and orange around the sun, and some of the water on the beach that reflects orange and gray.

I seriously considered not having a sentiment on my card, as I really wanted the scene to be the star, with nothing taking away from it. I did however, decide to add a small Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker off to the side. I think the quote really compliments my scene. You can find these stickers on Amazon, or some big box craft stores may carry them. They're also available at Simon Says Stamp. I picked mine up at a local Hobby Lobby several years ago.

Lastly, I added paint splatters using my Spellbinders Splatter White.

Looking back at my finished card, I think I could have gone in with a touch of pink and maybe a little red. Next time, maybe. I'm fairly happy with how it turned out and I challenge you to make a card based on a photo that inspires you. It's a great way to step outside your comfort zone, or pair colors that wouldn't normally be your first choice. Experimentation can be lots of fun!

Thanks so much for hanging with me today. If you'd like to browse or shop for any of these products, I've provided convenient clickable affiliate links for you below. There is no additional cost for you to use my links and I appreciate it so much when you do! Have a great day!

Stenciled Sunset Beach Card

Hey friends, I'm back with a card featuring a new layered stencil set from Erin Lee Creative. The set is called Sunset Beach and is an 8 piece layered stencil set. You can go so many different directions with this set, using as many colors or as little color as you want. Scroll down for creative details. I'll have a clickable shopping supply list at the end of this post, as well.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links, at no additional cost to you.)

These stencils measure 6x6 inches and create a border around the stenciled edges. They also have the numbers etched, 1 thru 8 onto the stencils for those who like to ink blend in order. I definitely love that feature.

I chose to trim my stenciled card panel down to just under A2 size to adhere to my A2 white card.

I used my blender brushes with a mix of brand inks and I'll break those down for you below:

Ocean: Catherine Pooler Inks -  Aquatini, Minted, Cummerbund
Sand: Ranger Ink Distress Oxide Ink Vintage Photo
Sky: Catherine Pooler Inks - Catching Rays, Orange Twist, Cotton Candy,
Drive In, Pucker Up, Sixteen Candles, Daydream
Sun - Catherine Pooler Coral Cabana

I also went in with a blender brush and softened up some of the deeper colors with a little white pigment ink.

For my heat embossed sentiment, I ink blended on white cardstock with some leftover Vintage Photo ink on my blender brush, then heat embossed a sentiment from the ELC "Written in the Stars" stamp, with Ranger super fine Copper embossing powder. I fussy cut around the sentiment to give it a die cut look, then popped it up on adhesive foam strips.

To create the sea, sand and sky paint splatters, I mixed some Spellbinders Splatter White with a touch of water and splattered it about with a paintbrush. Lastly, I used my white gel pen to outline a bit more of the sea, and a brown Copic marker to embellish the sand.

I absolutely love getting inky, and the sky's the limit with this stencil set! Erin also added some really great beach sentiments to the shop as well, be sure and check them out!

Thanks so much for stopping by. I've provided convenient affiliate links below, at no additional cost to you, if you decide to shop. Have a great day!

Terri

Believe in Magic Skittles New Release/Challenge

It's week two of the brand new release of the DoubleClick Skittles,
"Believe in Magic" collection.

Plus, we're having a challenge as well.  Be sure to link up your Disney or Mouse themed project to our challenge by 8/4/15.  You do not have to use Skittles to link up.  Look for the challenge on the right sidebar here and be sure you read the challenge rules.

So many vacationers head to Disney every summer, and I thought it would be fun to create something functional to store your tickets, receipts, pressed pennies, etc., all in one place.  You can even attach your collectible Disney pins along the sides of this fun, playful passport.  When you get home, you can scrap your saved items.

My fused passport or pocket holder, has a flap with a Velcro tab so you can slip your tickets, receipts, etc. into the back of your passport.  I decorated the outside of my flap with punched circles that were adhered with an adhesive runner.  I've used my We R Memory Keepers Fuse for so many of my Skittles projects; the two really go hand in hand.  And, the stretchy May Arts Ribbon was the perfect "lanyard" to hold up my fused passport.  Toss it around your neck and go!

Have you tried Skittles yet?  These are just as delicious as the candy, only they last longer!  These fun little bubble embellishments go perfect with all your projects.  They're great for blinging out just about everything from cards to frames to mirrors and more.

Click on the photo below to purchase the new Believe in Magic Skittles for just $4.00.  That's a 3 pk with 25 skittles per bag plus FREE SHIPPING in the USA!  Paypal is accepted too.  Bonus!

Here's a quick glance at how I made my fused passport, starting with an 8x8 page protector I had laying around.

Before you fuse the flap, be sure you trim off the backside, to allow for an open pocket.

Next time, I'll leave just a tad more room, perhaps about 1/4 to 1/2" on the sides, as it was a tight squeeze after I embellished my memory page and slipped it back in.

I love these new Skittles so much, I'm going to have to order more from Carri before they are sold out!  They are hot, hot, hot!

Linking up to these challenges:

Supplies: Believe in Magic DoubleClick Skittles, We R Memory Keepers Fuse, page protector, Tombow Power bond adhesive runner, Tombow foam squares, May Arts Ribbon 2 mm black/white twine, May Arts Ribbon red plaid ruffle ribbon, May Arts Ribbon adhesive scalloped border, Simple Stories Say Cheese paper, hole punch, 3/4" circle punch, Ranger liquid pearls onyx
