New Release at So Suzy Stamps SAMClub + Flat Shaker Card

 It's time for the So Suzy Stamps May Release for the Stamp of the Month Club!  To kick things off this month, I thought it would be fun to create a flat shaker card with a "porthole".  I have a fabulous circle die from Pinkfresh Studio that fit the bill perfectly, along with my WRMK Fuse.  And, I love the stamp this month.  Isn't it amazing?

To start, I inked my image with TH Brushed Corduroy distress ink and distressed my Authentique papers from the Anchored Collection with my TH distress tool.  I heat embossed my sentiment on vellum with white pigment ink and clear embossing powder, than swiped a brown Tombow marker across each embossed line.  You can grab that sentiment in Suzy's store, here.





Now it's time to FUSE!  Just line up your ruler as close to the edge of your cardstock as you can.  Don't forget to toss your sequins in before you fuse your last side. 

When you're all done..... shake, shake, shake!  It's fun to do and fun to give to your friends and family.  Kids of all ages love shaker cards.  This can even be displayed on a little wooden easel.  It's the perfect card for the traveler, adventurer or lover of all things nautical.  The sentiment that I used turns this into an encouragement card, as well.  Have fun with the new Stamp of the Month!

New Release at So Suzy Stamps SAM Club

It's time for the So Suzy Stamps March Release for the Stamp of the Month Club!

I'm a sentiment girl.  I just love sentiments.  So, for my project this month, I thought I would watercolor an ocean scene and provide that as the backdrop for my sentiment.

I also have a thing for skies.  I loooove to paint skies so I broke out my Twinkling H20 shimmering paint and went to work.  I say work, but it's more like play!

I simply spritzed some water into my paint pots, then used a paintbrush to fill in random color.  To vary the intensity, I add some of my paint to my craft mat or acrylic block and spritz more water to dilute for various shades.  I almost always use reds, oranges, purples and blues for my sky and also a little yellow. 

Notice the white sailboat?  I hand drew and painted that with DecoArt Americana Satin Cotton Ball paint.  I figured I needed a boat to go along with my sentiment, right?  And birds..... got to have birds.  My entire scene is free-handed with the exception of the sentiment.  The birds were drawn with my black Tombow dual brush marker.

I wanted to soften my sky a bit, so once it was completely dry, I used a sponge dabber and inked with my Powder Puff white chalk ink.

Isn't this sentiment just fabulous?  Plus, Irish blood runs through my veins so that makes it extra special for me.  This sentiment is compacted into a paragraph format so obviously, I took liberty on my project and spread out my sentiment to cover the span of my scene.  This is easily accomplished by masking the part of the stamp you don't want to use by adding tape to cover up the unwanted part.  That's where my washi tape comes in handy, although scotch or masking tape will work as well.

Mountain Plains Crafters Summer Challenge

As you can see, I chose to go nautical.  I have some lovely papers from Graphic 45, from the By The Sea Collection.  I also used an svg file purchased from SVG Attic, to create the wavy cupcake liners, cutting them with my Cricut Explore.

Don't you just love the cake toppers?  I wrapped some May Arts Ribbon bakers twine around trimmed wooden skewers and cut the anchor and ships steer, also using my Cricut, with G45 paper, then made flags.  There's punched corrugated circles with DoubleClick Skittles in Glitter Bellini on the steer, as well.   In fact, now that I look again, these look like little cupcake boats!  Arrgh, matey.....

(I would love to take credit for the yummy cupcakes but these are courtesy of Mad Hatter Cakes and Cupcake Shop in Jacksonville, AL and are so amazing!)

Here's how I trimmed down this wide ribbon to work with my cupcake wrappers:

- trim a 1/2" x 11" strip

- pull out sections along both edges to give it a frayed look 

- secure ribbon and twine with adhesive dots and/or glue

  I love how it turned out!

Pirates and Treasure card

So, today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  Seriously.  Who knew?  Well, the girls over at Mountain Plains Crafters knew.  We all made a project that you can check out here AND..... there's some blog candy a.k.a. buried treasure to be found too, but first, I thought I'd give you a little info on my pirate card and talk about one particular pirate fan in my household.

When my son was but a wee babe, I actually dressed him as a Pirate and decorated his stroller for a parade we were participating in.  You could say we had a Pirate in the making.  As my guy grew, he became a big fan of all things Pirate.  One year we took him to a Live Dora the Explorer show which was, of couse, thematically a Pirate show. 

Around that same age of 5 or 6, we had birthday invitations made with my son posing with his best scowl.  Later on, Pirates of the Caribbean became all the rage and my son was a wannabe pirate, replete with a McDonald's happy meal skull cap and braids.

To make this card, I rummaged around my 12 year old son's room until I found what I was looking for.  One of the few things that never got tossed was this Disney Pirates of the Caribbean map.  I salvaged the part that DIDN'T have scribble all over it  No, I didn't feel bad chopping up a piece of my son's past.  It was a mess anyway, plus, now I have a fabulous new card that I can do something wonderful with.

To get the burned look, I tore the edges and inked it with distress ink.  The sentiment was stamped on watercolor paper, inked in distress ink and waterered with a paintbrush, also torn and edged with more distress ink and splattered red misting paint.  I used a white gel pen to draw lines to the treasure, stamping a white star marking the spot.  The pirate skull was fussy cut from the same map and the ship and coins are from a pirate button kit.   Love how it turned out!
