Sweet Bunny Card for Two Paper Divas Stamps

 The February release at Two Paper Divas is in full swing, and I've got another card today, featuring "For Peeps Sake" and "Wishing You A Happy Easter".  In addition, I used the grass stamp from the set, "Catch Me If You Can".  It was perfect for my little bunny, sitting in the grass, taking a break from hopping!  I've got lots of splatters and fun ribbons as well.  The chevron and purple ribbon?  I ran those through my Xyron sticker machine for fuller adhesive coverage and the purple ribbon, I tie-dyed with distress ink spray!  It was the perfect accent for my lavender stamped sentiment.

I absolutely adore this bunny.  I colored him up with a couple of yellow Tombow Dual Brush markers, including swiping my stamp in yellow for the initial stamping,

so all my colors are cohesive.

Christmas Challenge at DoubleClick Skittles and NEW DUAL RELEASE!

Challenge #36 - Christmas or Blue/White

I'm so excited about the new Skittles release, but more about that later.  First, let me tell you about my project today, which was created with the new Skittles Holiday Traditions release in mind.

To begin, I inked a cute ornament stamp (So Suzy Stamps) with distress ink, then used clear embossing powder and my heat tool to seal in the colors.  Next, came a little watercolor "smooshing" with TH Cracked Pistachio, then once dry, some white chalk ink for a bokeh effect.

I've used several paper brands on this project.  Once in awhile, you need to mix it up to make a project work, right?  Since the vintage birds are singing, it's only fitting that I add some musical paper.  

I love the "retro meets modern" feel to this card.  I also love that the new holiday release sparkles!  Each color batch has glitter and glitz and it's so pretty in person.  These pictures don't really do it justice.  If you're like me, you have to have bling on your projects.  Rarely, do I NOT add bling.  The Skittles are the perfect accessory and size and coordinate nicely with sequins, buttons, etc.  Don't miss out on this release!  When they're gone.....they're gone!

So who hasn't doodled?  I used to doodle all the time when I was a kid.  Doodling turned to sketching, sketching turned to art classes.... which leads me to today's project.  I thought I would make my own Zentangle and color it.

I started by drawing a butterfly and adding sections to fill.  It's not very symmetrical, but I'm ok with it.  I'm just going with the flow.

My completed version is pictured above and ready to color.  Obviously, I'm not a professional!  But, it was fun to do.

Below, is a close-up of the butterfly.  I chose to embellish my butterfly using Purple Twilight, Sunshine Yellow and Sailboat Blue Skittles.  They blend perfectly with my colored butterfly.

So, today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  Seriously.  Who knew?  Well, the girls over at Mountain Plains Crafters knew.  We all made a project that you can check out here AND..... there's some blog candy a.k.a. buried treasure to be found too, but first, I thought I'd give you a little info on my pirate card and talk about one particular pirate fan in my household.

When my son was but a wee babe, I actually dressed him as a Pirate and decorated his stroller for a parade we were participating in.  You could say we had a Pirate in the making.  As my guy grew, he became a big fan of all things Pirate.  One year we took him to a Live Dora the Explorer show which was, of couse, thematically a Pirate show. 

Around that same age of 5 or 6, we had birthday invitations made with my son posing with his best scowl.  Later on, Pirates of the Caribbean became all the rage and my son was a wannabe pirate, replete with a McDonald's happy meal skull cap and braids.

To make this card, I rummaged around my 12 year old son's room until I found what I was looking for.  One of the few things that never got tossed was this Disney Pirates of the Caribbean map.  I salvaged the part that DIDN'T have scribble all over it  No, I didn't feel bad chopping up a piece of my son's past.  It was a mess anyway, plus, now I have a fabulous new card that I can do something wonderful with.

To get the burned look, I tore the edges and inked it with distress ink.  The sentiment was stamped on watercolor paper, inked in distress ink and waterered with a paintbrush, also torn and edged with more distress ink and splattered red misting paint.  I used a white gel pen to draw lines to the treasure, stamping a white star marking the spot.  The pirate skull was fussy cut from the same map and the ship and coins are from a pirate button kit.   Love how it turned out!

Scripture Doily card

Here's a lovely card using a Unity Stamp Co "Vintage Scripture" sentiment.  I adore scripture sentiments and have used this stamp numerous times.  I've also created a doily with Spellbinders Celebra'tions Doily Art Embossing folder.  I inked it twice, first with Golden Glow Spellbinders ink, then ran it through my Cuttlebug again after stamping Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass ink.  I actually inked the folder itself rather than the paper. 

 

Next,  I did some paper piercing to enhance the doily effect, using my Stamper's Secret Weapon.  If you're a crafter, you need one of these.  I love mine!  Find out about it here.

Halloween card....Enter if you dare!

I recently had a visit with my cousin who is all about Halloween.  This girl goes all out.  I've seen it and yes, it is quite the spectacle.

With Fall just around the corner, I was totally in the mood to ink up some Unity stamps that I've had for awhile, and after getting all pumped up from my cousin on Halloween, that's the direction I went.  I actually won this set last year in a blog hop.  It's called Halloween Chatter.

I plan on entering this in a couple challenges this week:  Simon says stamp Wednesday challenge and Unity Friends with Flair.  Scroll down if you'd like to see how I made this.

First, I started out with a metallic silver embossed card, then cut several frames with nesting dies and my Cuttlebug.  Next, I inked up the smaller frame (which was cut on watercolor paper) using Spellbinders Celebra'tions Pretty Plum ink (this ink is luscious & juicy!), an orange distress marker and the Unity sentiment.  Once stamped, I touched up with water and a paintbrush to add some fading around the lettering.  Need some spooky, right?

I splattered some October Afternoon Jack O'lantern Sprinklers around the sentiment for more creepy fun.  I usually unscrew the spray nozzle and tap lightly for better control. 

The orange fuzzy ribbon was cut in strips and secured with rolled up mini glue dots.  I added some sparkly orange Queen & Company bubbles, fussy cut the spider and black cat, and adhered with pop dots.  Happy Halloween!

Inking silk flowers tutorial

I've got these pretty ivory silk flowers from May Arts Ribbon (Item# 439-09) that I want to ink up and embellish so I thought I'd share this tutorial with you.  I like plain white or ivory flowers that I can color to my choosing to match whatever card or layout that I want to coordinate with.   I ended up making a trio of Thank you cards and used the Unity Stamp sentiment kit, Everything More, one of my all time favorite kits.  Um, it's on sale for a ridiculous price right now of $8.  You need it!

So to start....Don't have a craft mat?  Me either.  It's on my wishlist.  Instead, split open a used bubble mailing envelope and use these.  Awesome and cheap.  Plus it wipes clean with a dry paper towel!  Some of us have to budget our crafty purchases, right?  Anyway, I chose 3 different colors and styles of ink to color my flowers.  Marvy blending box in Sunset, October Afternoon Sprinklers in Carbon Copy and Twinkling H20 shimmering paint in purple

Next, stamp ink directly onto your surface or spray ink, etc.  When stamping ink, I did this about 3 times per batch.  Only sprayed once from the Sprinklers as a lot comes out.

 Mist with a squirt or two of water from a mister. Picked up this 2 pk mister for $3 at Walmart.  I used a paintbrush for the October Afternoon Sprinkler and the H20's to spread out better.

Dab your flower in mixture until you have complete coverage (no need to do both sides).  I did about 3-4 flowers from each batch of color.

Allow to air dry.  If you're in a hurry, you could use a heat tool.  Just make room to do one at a time or they'll all go flying!   All in all, it took me about 15 minutes or less to color these flowers but now that I know what I'm doing, I could probably cut my time in half next time.

 

Here's the final result of what I did with the flowers....I embellished each one differently, using sequins and burlap string for the pink.  I cut the edge off a strip of lace and made "stems" for the blue with white sequins and used some purple mesh and sequins for the purple flowers.  Each were coated with some Smooch Glitz glitter polish.  I even colored some white veins with a white gel pen on the blue flowers and did some more coloring on the flowers with yellow and white watercolor.

Father's day card splash

Here's another Father's Day card I made using distress markers and my new October Afternoon Sprinkler.   I seem to get the best results by unscrewing the mister and just letting droplets fall from the end of the tubing.  I found this cool "kings crown" button in my stash that's from the Teresa Collins Vintage Finds collection and paired that with my May Arts Ribbon natural jute.  Isn't it perfect?!

Again, I relied on these awesome stamps from the Unity Stamp Co.  the background image is called Tattered Chicken Wire and the sentiment is from the set,  All about Dad, from the Stamp of the week collection which is 5 bucks and change every week.  That includes the cost of shipping!!  You can't beat that!  You also get to purchase previously released SOTW at under $4.00 each.  That's how I obtained this set.  Well, I didn't intend on sounding like a commercial, but I think Unity is one of THE best stamp companies around.  Did I mention ya get freebies with every order too?  Just sayin.....  #grin
