Christmas Favor Boxes for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

Have you begun your Christmas crafting?  I'm getting a jump start today, with this trio of Christmas Favor Boxes for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  Be sure and visit their blog to see all the boxes in detail.  I'm creating with the Authentique Nostalgia paper collection and using a file that I purchased from Cricut, for use in my design space.  It was only $1.49 and I can use it over and over!  Scroll down for more details on the file.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links.  This does not affect your purchase price.)

This is the Open Favor Box from the Martha Stewart Beginner's Collection and is Cricut design space file #M54C4C42. I expanded the file out to approximately 11.5 inches in width to create my scored and folded boxes.  They were super easy and quick to assemble.  This file is only available for purchase if you have access to Cricut's design space.  You can upload the file, then purchase it prior to cutting.

Once assembled, my favor boxes measured 3.5"W by 4.5" L.   You can simply copy and paste the link below into your design space and click "Make It", to begin cutting with your Cricut Explore.

Let me mention that I love the thickness of the Authentique Nostalgia paper.  Its perfect for cutting and I had no problems with paper tearing or the blade not cutting all the way through.  It worked perfectly on the regular cardstock setting.

I have shopping links for most of the products that I used, below.  Thanks so much for stopping in and click this link, to see the rest of my products and creative tips over on the the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L blog.  See you next time.... Terri

Decorative Gift Bag Plus Recipe

Here's a little sneak peek of my project that's up on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L blog today.  Did you know it's National Date Nut Bread day?  Yup, it's a thing.  Who knew?  I not only made several loaves of date nut bread but I made decorative gift bags to make special gifts!  My brother-in-law's birthday was last week and one of these loaves went to him in this festive bag, along with some coffee.  Because coffee and treats go together, right?  I'll have a full product list at the end of this post but first, scroll down for the recipe.

(FTC Disclosure: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my convenient affiliate links.  This does not affect your purchase price.)

I thought I would share my recipe.  It's surprisingly easy to make and has a special ingredient that you would NEVER guess.... instant coffee!  Yup, I keep Folger's instant decaf on hand, those individual serving packets that come in a box.  They're less than $2 a box and come in handy for baking and late night coffee drinking too.  Here's the thing.  You can't taste the coffee in the mix.  At all.  So why add it?  Typically, a date nut loaf comes out looking yellowish inside.  You could add a variety of spices, such as cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, etc., and get a darker appearance (and spiced flavor) but my husband really doesn't care for spices.

The instant coffee simply makes the bread look darker and for some reason, dark sweet breads tend to be more appealing than lighter sweet breads.  It's all in preference, really.  The taste and color of this loaf bread is more like a banana nut bread.  I cannot begin to tell you how good this stuff is!  And, healthy!

Here's another tip - roast or toast your pecans first.  I toasted mine on the stove the night before, with a little salt and butter.  It just brings out that nutty flavor and I can promise that you will taste the difference.  It gives this loaf the perfect combination of salty and sweet.  You can thank me later!
Don't forget to stop by the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L blog to check out the full project.

Date Nut Bread Recipe
(makes 2 large loaves - half recipe for one loaf)

1 1/2 c. chopped dates                                     3/4 c. coarsely chopped pecans
1 1/2 c. hot water                                             1 1/2 tsp baking soda
4 Tbsp. butter, softened                                   1 1/2 tsp salt
2 1/4 c. all purpose flour                                  2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 c. sugar                                                    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 to 1 1/2 tsp. instant coffee *optional             Confectioner's sugar *optional

Directions

1.  In large bowl, combine dates, water, butter and coffee.  Let soak for 10 minutes.  In another large bowl, combine flour, sugar, pecans, baking soda and salt.
2.  In a medium bowl, combine eggs and vanilla.  Add date mixture and stir.  Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
3.  Pour into two greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pans.  Bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.  (For mini loaf pans, pour into 4-5 pans, baking at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes.)   Cool completely on wire racks before removing from pan.  If you like, sprinkle with confectioner's sugar using a sifter, once cooled.

*Tip - Loaves will easily come out of the pan if you grease lightly with oil, then sprinkle with flour (tip pan to coat all sides with flour, then tap off excess) and allow to completely cool.  Enjoy!

Strawberry Cupcake Celebration for So Suzy Stamps

Hello my crafty friends.  I've been participating in The Daily Marker 30 Day coloring challenge hosted by Kathy Racoosin, and recently colored up this fabulous image from the new release this month at So Suzy Stamps.  Isn't that cupcake delectable?  The stamp was designed by my teammate Olesya Kharkova.  She is so talented!  After coloring this image, on a kraft card (which I ended up turning into a scalloped die cut), I couldn't wait to fashion it into a pretty card.

(Please note: as an affiliate for various companies in the craft industry, I will receive a small commission for purchases made through my
convenient affiliate links.  This does not affect your purchase price.)

Some details:  I heat embossed my image with white embossing powder, then colored with various brush markers, including Marvy Le Plume II and Zig Real Clean Color Brushes.  I used a white gel pen to shade my cupcake liner, as well.  To make the strawberry seeds pop, I used the fine tip of my black brush marker to dot over the white embossing.

To get that fluffy white and pink icing, I first colored it pink, then used a fine tipped paintbrush dipped in white acrylic paint and outlined along the embossed swirls.  A damp waterbrush helped to spread the paint just a bit and give that milky, creamy finish.

Lastly, I added some dots of more white paint and added pretty rainbow sequins.

I hope you like this fun project.  I've provided convenient affiliate shopping links below, if you see something you'd like and wish to shop.  I appreciate you stopping in today!  Terri

New release at TPD Stamps Day 1 + Sale

It's August, already, can you believe it?  And, time for the newest release from Two Paper Divas Stamps.  This month, TPD is releasing 10 new stamps and/or sets that run the gamut from birthdays, to Halloween, to encouragement and more.  Be sure and tune in today and tomorrow for the big reveal of all the sets.  Some will sell out quickly so if you see one that you must have, don't wait.  Plus, for those 2 days, the new stamp sets will be discounted by 20%.  Sweet!  Speaking of sweet.....

My project today features a Firecracker Treat Box and a tag that I colored using the "Make A Wish 2" stamp.  I made the treat box from a template that was included in the DCWV Confetti 12x12 stack and the tag was also part of the paper stack.  When I saw that tag, I knew it was perfect for this stamp.  My candles look like they're sitting on top of a confetti cake!

Isn't it the cutest?  The final touches on my tag include coloring my candles with Kaisercraft gel and glitter pens and tying both ends of my treat box with sparkly silver curling ribbon.

Now, you know I love sharing quick tips so here's your tip of the day...

BONUS TIP: Coloring Stamped images- For crisp, clean results, stamp your image with black archival ink.  To avoid smears and smudges with the ink, allow ink to completely dry or use a heat embossing tool to quickly "set" your archival ink.  Proceed to color.

Purchase Make A Wish 2, here.

Visit the Two Paper Divas Blog for daily project inspiration and on Wednesdays for the Design Team Roundup.  Check out the newest release right here:
