Ink Mixing, Smooshing and Ice Cream!

If you popped on over from So Suzy Stamps, you're in the right place.  I'm sharing this delicious birthday card today, mixing my inks, using the smoosh technique and playing with some fun products that you can snag from Suzy's one stop shop.  So let's dive right in, shall we?

Grab these items:

heavyweight cardstock
distress ink
Angel Wings pigment ink (So Suzy Stamps)
Fancy Happy Birthday sentiment ( So Suzy Stamps)
Ice Cream Fun Stamp (So Suzy Stamps)
waterbrush or small paint brush
craft mat
black archival ink pad
Misti stamping tool
embellishments (twine/buttons)
adhesive runner (Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L)
trimmer/scorer
heat embossing tool

The card dimensions are 3.5" x 6" so trim and score a piece of heavyweight cardstock measured
12" length, 3.5"width and score at the 6" mark, or if you prefer, use a card panel for the card front.

To begin, pick the distress ink colors of your choice.  I'm using Ranger Abandoned Coral and Cracked Pistachio.  Or, for ice cream colors, I'm calling them, "strawberry and pistachio"!

Dab your distress ink onto a craft mat.  Grab the So Suzy Stamps Angel Wings pigment ink and dab as well.  Use a small wet paintbrush or waterbrush, to mix the two together.  Starting with the pink color, dredge or smoosh your cardstock until you've covered the top one fourth of your card with ink.  Make sure your cardstock is covered sufficiently with ink.

Use your heat emboss tool to dry.

Repeat with the green ink for the second section and dry.  Continue alternating your smooshed colors, making sure to dry in between each inking.

Next, grab your Misti stamping tool.  Starting with the upper left, begin stamping the ice cream image, alternating each stamping upside down.  You may wish to begin by offsetting your stamp off the cardstock edge.  You can use a strip of washi tape, if you like, to more easily line up your image.  Continue alternating until you have completely stamped your cardstock.

Next, stamp your sentiment with your Misti and black archival ink on a section of heavy cardstock, trimmed to 3.5" x 1".   If you wish, go ahead and use the same ink mixing and smooshing for the upper and lower edge of your sentiment piece.  Dry and mount with foam squares.

I also made a fun embellishment out of twine, a button and my WRMK striped acetate pad, using a mini heart punch on my striped acetate for the heart.

For a little fun decoration, I made a mini ice cream cone banner to go along with my card.  I might have to save this and use it at work.  How fun would it be to celebrate your co-workers birthday by draping this fun banner across their computer?

It's super easy to make.  I used my WRMK banner punch board set at 2.5" and DCWV papers for my "cone".  I trimmed a few "pistachio" scoops from my DCWV papers but you could also use a 1.5" circle punch, then cut it in half.  Chop up a lace doily or use a circle punch on it as well, then adhere with your adhesive runner to the backside of your triangle cone.

Thanks so much for popping in today.  This card was quick and easy to make and I hope you will give it a try and have fun with it.  Have a great day!

Terri

Family Wood Banner for Adornit

Today, I'm sharing a fun banner project that I made for Adornit, using their "Family Wood Swag Kit".  I'm also using some of their amazing scrapbook paper, including the Nested Owl Charcoal papers and the Adornit Blender paper, as well as Laura Kelly's new line of papers for Adornit that are just now available in your independent scrapbook stores.  You will soon be able to find them online at adornit.com and scrapbook.com.

Here's a close-up of those fun owl papers.  I adore them!  I'm also using some Adornit ribbons to embellish at the top of each wood piece.  It was so simple to make, just tracing the outline, cutting and adhering with an adhesive runner.  I prefer my Xyron Creative Station as it adds full adhesive coverage up to a 9" image.

Rather than create a ribbon/string banner across the top and hanging my letters, I added a
ribbon embellishment in the middle, hot gluing the ribbon to the back of my letters, and used some Command adhesive strips to place this in the window of the sun room.

You can purchase this Adornit kit, here or check out some of their other DIY project kits, here.

You can always find amazing things at Adornit, from their boutique line of clothing, to coloring books, scrapbook paper, wood projects and more!  It's a happy place to shop!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  See you again soon, with another fun Adornit project.

Fall Festival Fun Sponsored by Ribbon Resource, DCWV and Xyron

(FTC disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links so, if you purchase a product using the link I may receive a small commission. I only participate in affiliate programs that feature products that I use and love. Your purchase price is not affected in any way, by using my links.)

Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in a Fall Festival hosted by Children's Rehab and Early Intervention.  I was asked to do crafts with the kids and we had such a great time.  I had some wonderful sponsors to donate products for this event:

I helped with a little of the decorating, including creating the banner pictured above.

Die Cuts with a View - Cardstock Stack - White Core - 12 x 12 - Bright Metallics

I used DCWV cardstock to create the banner shape and letters, cut with my Cricut Explore.

Next, I ran my cut letters through my

Xyron - Xyron 900 Creative Station Sticker Maker

to turn them into giant stickers which easily adhered to the banner, then strung everything up with some orange baker's twine from the Ribbon Resource.

from: Ribbon Resource

(That's me above, sitting at the craft table, ready and waiting for the kids to arrive!)

This turned out to be a HUGE event!  Hundreds came through the doors.  Batman was there, the Fire Department was there with their truck, even old Jack Sparrow, that crusty pirate showed up with this fetching pirate by his side.

Here's the staff who put this event together and really got into the festive spirit.

I had parental permission for this photo, however due to confidentiality reasons, I chose to augment some of the photos.  The kids had so much fun making their pumpkin stickers.  I let them or their parents write their name on the stickers, then they embellished them with some other fun goodies I brought along.

This little cutie, below, is the granddaughter of one of the staff.  She had so much fun decorating her pumpkin.  I cut, oh, a bazillion pumpkins with my Explore using the DCWV cardstock.  Well, maybe not a bazillion, haha.

from: Ribbon Resource

The kids cut little green stems using the Ribbon Resource green netting or paper raffia and we adhered them with the Xyron adhesives.

I wish you could have seen one little boy's face when we cranked those pumpkins through the Xyron sticker machine.  His eyes got soooo big!  The kids thought that was the coolest thing ever, making stickers out of the pumpkins.  I knew it would be a hit, and I was right!

From start to finish, it was crazy busy.  I was the first station when the kids walked in the door so there was a line and no time for me to get all the photos that I was hoping to get.

The staff had stations set up outside for games and inside, they had a maze of rooms decorated so the kids could trick or treat around the inside of the building.  In case of inclement weather, this was a really smart plan.  They even had the conference room set up for a cake walk.  Wow!

(I'm kind of digging that bacon costume.  Yum!)

The kids had such a great time.  There were so many volunteers, including children of staff members (pictured above) who helped pass out candy and man some of the tables.

Jack Sparrow was so gracious to take pictures with the kids.  This was the first time to have a Fall Festival here for these special kids and it was such a huge success.  I'm so happy to have had a small part in it.

These little guys below, went from the sticker station, back outside to do more fishing; another fun station that was a big hit.

This event was scheduled for 2 hours but went waaaaay over!  I hope you will support these wonderful sponsors and give them some of your business in the future.   I've included some links throughout this post, where you can shop and show your support.  Thanks again, Ribbon Resource, DCWV and Xyron for sending me some of my favorite products to work with and donating to this very special event.  You are so appreciated!

Join the DoubleClick Skittles Food Challenge!

There's one week left in the current DoubleClick Skittles Food Challenge.  There's always a fun prize up for grabs, so why not play?  Skittles are not required to enter.  Just link up your food themed creation but be sure and check out the challenge rules; backlinking is not allowed.

I truly believe that cake should be a food group unto itself.  I love cake in any shape, flavor....basically, I have a major sweet tooth.  I'm knocking out two birds with one stone here; I need a birthday card and a food card.  Voile!

I chose to use the Strawberry Skittles on my cake.  The cake is a Miss Kate Cuttables svg and it had some larger decorative circles which made for perfect placement of my Skittles.  The card shape itself?  I used my Cricut Explore to cut the layered card shapes with a scallop frame in the Stretch Your Imagination cartridge.

Aren't they yummy?  You can purchase most sets as a 3 pk for $4 or less or buy individual bags.  Each bag has 25 Skittles.  There's so many colors to choose from!  A rainbow of colors, just like the candy.... And as always, Carri offers free USA shipping and PAYPAL is accepted.  Now, that's a deal!  She even offers a free bonus bag on some purchases.  I've been asked by some of my followers, how to apply the Skittles.  I use Tombow Mono Aqua Glue to really make sure it stays put but mini or small adhesive dots work well too.  Experiment by adding a touch of glitter glue to the bottom of your Skittle.  That adds even more wow factor.  Be sure it's dry though, before adding your adhesive dot.  I usually go ahead and add my clear glue right away with no problems, though.

Scroll down if you'd like to see the supplies I used.  Did you catch the new release of the "Believe in Magic" Skittles?  They coordinate perfectly with Disney projects and are still available.  Get them before they sell out though.  Don't come cryin' to me later.... 'cause you missed out!  #grin

Be sure and link up to the challenge by 8/18/15.

Thanks for popping in to see my project!  I'd love if you'd click on the Friend Connect button on my upper right sidebar and become a follower. (P.S. I'm having a big blogiversary event this month!)

The Magic of Christmas card

Here's another card I made with ''His Presence'' stamp from the Unity Stamp Co.  and Erin Schreiner.   I love this sentiment because it has so much meaning.   I used some washi tape and adhesive glitter ribbon too.   Baby Jesus is a sticker that I adhered to white cardstock and then cut around the edges,  and raised it with a pop dot.   I fussy cut the frame from cardstock that I ran through my Cuttlebug with an embossing folder.   Some ink,  burlap twine and blue gemstones were added and a 2-piece star at the top for the finishing touches.   Pretty!
